WOW! This must be the cleanest historic site I’ve seen in Wyoming. I had the privilege to speak to some of the maintenance staff, and boy are they passionate about this job. They put their blood sweat and tears into preserving this historic monument. They certainly do deserve a pizza party!

If you’re visiting Laramie this should be top on your list of things to do. Fascinating history here. The walking tour is self guided and I enjoyed that. There was quite a bit to see from the prison cells, BREIT factory, wardens home, and building displaying how the university used the grounds.

We were visiting and saw this and knew we had to visit! Would have been much more authentic if the cell house was still original, but the recreated cells were done very nicely. Love how our tour guide was very personable and full of knowledge and stories!! The old western buildings outside the prison itself are really neat to stroll thru, and the church is simple but gorgeous. The display inside the larger converted barn house is very well done. Lots of agricultural history in there. Such a cool historical attraction just minutes from downtown Laramie. Well worth stopping!!

Nice, historical spot in Laramie. Offer self guided tours or you can explore with a guide. Lots of history here and the experience is well worth the entrance fee.

Old prisons, train depots, signs, veteran memorials, etc are up my alley so I enjoyed this site. There are two things, for me, that set this park apart from similar sites. One, is the unique structure of the prison - I've never seen one like this one. Two, is the prison workshop is still in operation! No convict labor, but the site still hand makes brooms in the prison workshop. The site offers docent interpretative walks, at least when I went. Aside from the prison, much of which has been reconstructed, there are several other buildings on the campus. There are informative displays throughout the park. Overall, a nice place to check out. While in town, if you like trains, you must see the train at the Laramie Historical Depot.

This is REALLY cool historic place! They restored it really well with how badly worn down the building was. They had really easy to read brochures to help a person take a quick and easy tour by themselves. They are still adding to the site which is exciting. My young kids really enjoyed coming too.

This is where you have to go when you visit Laramie! A picture into the world of the outlaw of the Territorial West. I especially liked the write ups about the prisoners - both men and women, the crimes they committed, sentencing and tidbits about after being incarcerated. I’d recommend a couple of hours here. The fee is nominal for what you get- warden’s house tour, jail, industry building, mock-up of city and more! We wished we could take a broom home with us on the plane! So cool! (They’re for purchase in the gift shop!) Not a stop for dinner or lunch but they have snacks things and bottled drinks for consumption in the gift shop. Loved touring the archaeological digs inside the jail - seeing the renovations made. Highly recommend.

The state did a fantastic job rehabilitating the prison to reflect the historical structure, and has added many interesting details based on research of former inmates. It's an awesome time capsule back to the late 1800s and early 1900s in the west. The staff also provides tours that provide a lot of extra interesting details and stories, but they've also done a great job providing enough materials for a person to do a self-guided tour.

What an interesting place, but I definitely am glad I was never imprisoned there. Prison back then was definitely a punishment. No heat, no air conditioning, no tv or entertainment, a bucket for your bathroom, NO TALKING - EVER, 1 set of clothing, do your own wash, mandatory baths, a dark cell if you were bad and so on! Butch Cassidy spent 18 months there.

What a gem of a local museum! There is fascinating history here from the early days of the Wyoming territory and colorful people who spent time in the prison. The staff was very helpful and took the time to share history about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid. We took our time on the self guided tour option reading many display areas history.

This place is amazing and worth the visit. There is a lot to see, so plan on a half day visit to get a lot of it visited. There is lots of photos and reading to get you through, also tour guides. There is some prisoners mugshots with stories that sucked me into.

Really cool Christmas set and walk through. It was also great to walk the prison and see how well preserved it is,and the amount of pictures and documentation they have there. I want to go back in the day to see more and walk around the entire grounds. If you are into old west history this is a must stop.

This place was amazing! A must-see and explore with the family! We homeschool, and the boys really enjoyed learning about this place. In the summer, they teach u how to make your own broom! So cool. So we definitely will return!

It was probably about 10 deg. F outside when I visited, but luckily all the attractions were near each other. Very informative without a guide, and all areas are well preserved and well maintained. Loved the staff, and gift shop.

Not safe during covid. Their rules say they require masks but many of the other guests took them off the second they got inside past the staff. No one is there to enforce it. You are in small spaces (aka prison) with unmasked a-holes. We left without seeing a lot of the place and the kids were bummed.

Fascinating place, full of history! Very well restored and presented for all ages to enjoy. There is a gift shop on site with interesting items. The self guided tour requires about 2 hours, depending on how much time you spend at each exhibit.

It is a great place to learn about how the process of handling prisoners was done and the day to day operation of the prison. You can read about some well-known people inside these walls.

I've been here before but back then the place was closed. Now it was open and we could go inside and learn about the history of this prison. We spend quiet some time here as we found out all very interesting. Highly recommended.

Self guided tour is the way to go if you have the time. I loved seeing the old cells and the rebuilt buildings around the perimeter Such tiny homes back then but it's cool to see. Stop to watch the history of the AG barn. You get to see many old photos.

This place is amazing. Lots of room to pull in and wait in line if needed. There's non-portable water to rinse your tank, portable water to fill your tank, easy access to the dump station...perfect! PLEASE pay your $10 fee in order to support this dump station being available to us in the future! Oh and be patient and considerate when there's a line! 😏🩵🩷

Amazing piece of Wyoming history. Well put together, and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. It was a great experience and opportunity to see how prison life was in the late 1800s. The Cassidy exhibit was really well designed and the old Winchesters were awesome.

I don’t know if I walked in at the wrong time or what. Basically 90% of the doors in this “museum” were locked. I believe the only way you can see everything is if you booked a tour, because the tour person has the keys. I believe that this museum is interesting if their doors were open. Ridiculous experience!

  • 5/5 R C. 3 years ago on Google
Never mind the history! It has an RV Dump station and unlimited potable water as well as a huge parking lot! There is some security that drives around in a little ATV but doesn’t bother anyone. The dump station is busy so expect a line but it moves relatively fast.

  • 5/5 Kyla G. 3 years ago on Google
Sherry one of the site volunteers was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She definitely helped to start out our tour off great! I enjoyed the self guided tour and information we received to do the entire site alone. There were a few other visitors that we had happen to see while touring, but made sure to stay distant from them per covid measures, granted the low amount of visitors that was rather easy.

THIS is an excellent museum and stop. It is very reasonably priced, well organized, and interesting for children and adults. They have included a variety of exhibits that give visitors a fascinating insight into the territorial prison, the politics, crime and punishment, daily life inside and out of prison, and on and on. The staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend a stop here.
