One of the most important Orthodox churches and monuments in the world. It is also one of the most beautiful churches I have ever been in and there is a coffin of St. Lazarus as well as a crypt where he was buried under the church. You can visit all of it free of charge and if you want you can donate something to the church. The whole place is just wonderful. If you are in Cyprus a must see.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the ancient Church of St. Lazarus, and it was truly a breathtaking experience. Located in the heart of the city, the church is steeped in rich history and legend, as it is said to be the final resting place of St. Lazarus himself. As I walked through the doors, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the stone architecture. The church is a testament to the skill and artistry of the builders of yesteryear, and the attention to detail is truly impressive. The interior of the church is equally stunning, with ornate frescoes covering the walls and beautiful stained glass windows casting a warm glow on the altar. One of the highlights of my visit was the opportunity to see the tomb of St. Lazarus, which is said to be the final resting place of the saint himself. The tomb is surrounded by beautiful marble statues and intricate carvings, and it is truly a sight to behold. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Church of St. Lazarus to anyone interested in history or architecture. It is a truly beautiful and sacred place, and a true gem in the heart of the city.

The church is the culture of the city! Beautiful architecture, very well preserved and with a lot of history to tell, I recommend the visit! We stayed in a hotel, in front of the Church, in a very quiet square, with many cafes

Amazing experience. I was able to see the tomb and spend some time in silent meditation in the Church. Wasn’t too crowded for a Saturday. Suggest wearing long pants and ladies covering the shoulders. There are cover-ups available outside the church but they were being used heavily.

A beautiful Church with fantastic architecture and history. We didn’t go inside the Church as we felt we weren’t dressed appropriately at the time, but they did have shawls/coverings hanging on hooks outside for public use….just peaking though the doors the inside looked wonderful: we will go in on our next visit. They had a QR code (story telling statue) for a link to some audio history of the site, which we thought was excellent.

A small but rather remarkable church in the centre of Larnaka, associated with the Lazarus raised by Jesus from the dead. Steps lead down to the tomb itself, and an ornate silver reliquary is in a prominent position in the centre of the church displaying the bones, of the man itself. The church is architecturally beautiful and the interior ornate, however it excludes an aura of calm simplicity and is both a place of pilgrimage for the religious minded, or merely a quiet spot to escape the heat of the day for the simply curious.

A stunning beautiful church with a unique architecture from inside and outside. One of the most interesting places to visit in larnaca . Under the church you will found the tomb of saint Lazarus . Free entrance and photos are allowed . Highly recommended and a must visit . Located in its own square in the town centre, the magnificent stone church of Agios Lazaros is one of the most remarkable examples of Byzantine architecture in Cyprus and lies over the tomb of the saint. Built by Byzantine Emperor Leo VI in the 9th century, the church was restored in the 17th century. Although the three domes and original bell tower of the church were destroyed in the first years during Ottoman rule, the gold-covered iconostasis has survived today and is a superb example of baroque woodcarving. Saint Lazarus came to Cyprus after being resurrected by Jesus. He was ordained as Bishop of Kition by the Apostles Barnabas and Paul and lived in the town for 30 years. His tomb can be seen under the sanctuary. The saint is so revered that a procession is held in his honour eight days before Easter. During the procession, the icon of Saint Lazarus is carried through the streets of Larnaka. Next to the church is the Byzantine Museum, which exhibits important religious icons, artefacts and relics.

The Church of Saint Lazarus is a late-9th century church in Larnaca, Cyprus. It belongs to the Church of Cyprus, an autocephalous Greek Orthodox Church. The Church of Saint Lazarus is named for New Testament figure Lazarus of Bethany, the subject of a miracle recounted in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus raises him from the dead. According to Eastern Orthodox tradition, sometime after the Resurrection of Jesus, Lazarus was forced to flee Judea because of rumoured plots on his life and came to Cyprus. There, he was appointed by Paul the Apostle and Barnabas as the first Bishop of Kition (now Larnaca). He is said to have lived for thirty more years and on his death was buried there for the second and last time. The Church of Agios Lazaros was built over the reputed second tomb of Lazarus.

According to traditional history, the remains of Saint Lazarus are kept here. It is a beautiful structure typical of the place and its culture, which is in harmony with other modern buildings with a white shade. A street straight from the beach will take you wherever time takes you back. The inside of the building is richly gilded, which makes it different from our Armenian churches.

One of the only interesting things to see at Larnaca’s Marina area, but unfortunately it isn’t the greatest experience for non-Christian believers or atheists. The structure itself is authentic and old, but fairly small and unimpressive compared to others in Europe.
