A scenic hike for all ages! The elevated walkway makes this hiking trail available for everyone. Strollers wheelchairs and fast walkers alike. Six Mike Cypress Slough offers many shaded viewing areas with benches for wildlife viewing as well as resting. Keep your binoculars handy for seeking out the hidden wildlife. Gators, birds, turtles and a few quick glimpses of otters were the attractions on this visit. The peaceful quiet of the area aids in the comfort of the wildlife that almost pose for their pictures. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes for a hike the entire family can enjoy.

Absolutely beautiful trail. Great for walks alone or with family. It's approx. 1.2 mile trail. Bring your comfortable shoes, your camera and binoculars. You will always find something along the walk.

Beautiful piece of heaven on earth. If you need a place to unwind from all the busyness of life this is the place to be. Enjoy a walk through this natural habitat with a perfect boardwalk hike. Definitely for all ages from the youngest learning about plants/animals to seniors appreciating the peacefulness of the area. Go, spend some time and relax before returning to life outside the gates. You need it…believe me.

Free entry. $1 an hour to park. Very much worth the stop! Its a walk along a boardwalk through the Cypress slough. The preserve staff was very informative. We seen lots of wildlife, including an alligator and many birds.

This is an AMAZING place to visit. While surrounded by city life, it is hidden away enough to where you really feel detached from society. When you enter, it feels like you're walking through a different world entirely. If you go late afternoon or early morning, you will see an abundance of wildlife. Herons, alligators, owls, and so much more have been seen here. I hope you visit and get the chance to see the life that existed before humans settled the area!

This place is so beautiful. Every time you come you find something new. It’s so quiet and peaceful there are reading spots and overlooks with a view. I have seen baby gators, owls, snakes and so many other cool things. There aren’t any bugs and the canopy of the trees keeps you shaded and comfortable. The best place for a scenic walk with friends/family!

Nestled within the embrace of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, the journey along its wooden paths is a serene odyssey into the heart of untouched nature. Pronounced as "slew," this haven unveils the secrets of a thriving ecosystem, a symphony of life woven through lush greenery and gentle whispers of wildlife. As one ambles through this sanctuary for about two miles, time takes on a tranquil rhythm, offering a therapeutic respite from the bustling world. Immersing oneself in this serene ambiance requires a mindful embrace of the surrounding. To be in harmony with this sanctuary is to walk gently, to listen intently, and to savor every moment as nature reveals its unspoken wonders.

This spot is a photography enthusiast's dream – one of my absolute favorites! Nestled on the prestigious Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, it offers regular sightings of alligators, a diverse array of wading birds and songbirds, not to mention a captivating mix of snakes and flora. Every visit promises a thrilling adventure as you explore the enchanting wonders of this nature boardwalk!

A hidden nature gem although it was fairly busy so I guess not too hidden. The boardwalk provides a nice walk through the slough and we easily wandered for 2 hours. The alligator was the star but we saw fish, birds, snakes, lizards and the otter hunting fish! You hav eto oh to park but it’s cheap, $1 an hour.

Have you ever heard the saying “the good things in life are free”? This is no exception, whether you’re looking for a quick hideaway from the complexities of life, or looking to have a romantic afternoon with your partner only, or maybe a Sunday walk with the whole family. This is the right place, just make sure not to be too loud so you won’t disturb the animals that call this beautiful place home, also it is not a one time stop. Every time we come here we see something new, from alligators to birds, to even river otters and friendly squirrels, this is a hidden gem that most people will look past.

Beautiful little hiking trail that lasts about 30 minutes for good paced walking. Lots of mini gators! gorgeous herons, and many other birds in their natural habitat. Quiet and peaceful to say the least. Only $1 for parking for a great activity that not only that exerts energy, but gets you (and the kids!) to have a great hands on learning experience in biology!

This preserve is wonderful! A 1.2 mile loop that is teeming with life, right near the action! Did not see any alligators but saw turtles, herons, wood ducks, anhinga. Only pay for parking & donations are asked for (and well deserved!).

We had a great time hiking and pícnicing at the preserve. Highlight was seeing an alligator come up on the dock to get some sun! Saw lots of birds, turtles and tropical plants. What a great fun FREE activity to do with kids! Only cost was parking.

This is a delightful place that far exceeded our expectations. There is no admission fee, and we only paid $3 for parking, but the boardwalk is very well designed and maintained, with numerous viewing docks and many benches. The wildlife was abundant, and we didn't notice any traffic noise that can ruin the wilderness feeling. It is close to our winter lodging spot, so we will be back many times!

Perfect little hidden gem. Great beautiful board walks that are very clean to walk on. We saw 2 gators and lots of birds fish and turtles. Perfect for bird watchers. I wouldn’t recommend bringing young children since it’s a quiet zone and is intended to be a wild life zone. Highly recommend but get there early

Wow, what a beautiful preserve! The whole park is very clean and well kept up after, and they have a beautiful trail that takes you by many different ponds with lots of opportunities to see all the amazing wildlife. They have alligator, turtles, otters and so many cool birds just to name a few of the critters you might see. If you haven’t checked this place out, or you are thinking about it, you should. It’s well worth it.

Great nature trail. Look for the trail with grass or moss. It is so quiet once you get past the zone where you hear 41 traffic. There are shady areas, and sunny areas. Lots of bird song. There is also a short walk with crushed shells (which crunch noisily with every step), and a boardwalk. The trail through the open field is fabulous. Bring a bottle of water, and wear bug spray. You will love it. Take a picture of the map before you head out, it is very easy to get lost IMHO.

Such a beautiful park that is well maintained and has such diverse wildlife. The boardwalk is exquisite. NO DOGS! Parking is $1/hour or $5/day, but I don't know if it's monitored. Lots of tables and benches. Lots of available parking when I went (mid day on a Wednesday), but could see how parking may be limited during peak times. They do have restroom facilities, but they appeared to be under construction when I was there (April 2022). They did have porta-potties that seemed to be well maintained. There are also guided tours, which we didn't attend, and an interpreter center, which we didn't check out. Highly recommend checking this place out!

1.2 mile easy boardwalk loop. I went mid day.. 87 degrees..saw a lot of birds and butterflies..no gators or otters as reported...I bet if you went early, there would be. Parking was easy...$1/hr or $5/day. Loop took me less than an hour with stopping for pics. Worth a quick trip. Oh, no bikes...walking only...

One of the best "hidden gem" places in the greater Fort Myers area. You'd never expect such a peaceful and natural environment to be so close by. It's a wonderful boardwalk through a forest, along a lake, and through a wetland jungle forest (in the wet season the whole forest floor is flooded). We saw birds, and Gators, and turtles, and even a camouflaged gar fish! It's well accessable for anyone (wheelchair friendly), and is about 1.2 miles of walking. The whole place is a "quiet zone", so no phone calls, loud voices, children yelling or anything else noisy. In short, it's amazing! Only $1 per hour to park, and we took our time and it took about 90 min to walk through, though you could easily do it in an hour.

This was a serene experience walking thru the slough, even though we had a hungry 1 and a half & 8 year old with us. The activity pack my 8 year old got, at the visitor center before hand, helped direct his attention to the experience. It did start raining right as we arrived however, it was still a great boardwalk. The covered areas are spaced perfectly apart to take cover from the elements. Our 1 and a half year old loved walking along the boardwalk until she got hungry and tired. She slept the trip back. Everyone that worked there are especially nice and pleasant. I spoke with the ranger that was checking times on the tickets (for parking) displayed on dashboards. I asked if people really skip paying for the $1 per hour parking and he replied "yes". Also he said that it is unfortunate for him to hand out a parking citation because, the money for the ticket would not go to the park.

Great place for an easy walk all on a boardwalk and to see some beautiful natural sites. Just over 1 mile if you walk the whole trail. Parking is a dollar an hour. The lots fills up by 10 am during high season, and the boardwalk gets busy. Try to get there early. Saw lots of birds and an otter. Staff is very friendly.

I was looking for something to do while I waited to catch a flight back home. I googled parks near the airport and discovered this nature gem within 20 minutes of the airport. Parking is $1 per hour or $5 for a day pass. Unless you like to sit, listen, and watch, 2 hours is more than enough here. The boardwalk trail was easy to adventure. The paths are clearly marked with guide markers for you to know your where abouts. Photographers were capturing sneak pics of an owl. Alligators can be seen if you've got an eye for wildlife. Birds chirping and fish splashing are the sounds that fill this swampy trail. The trail is a short distanced trail, so no worries, it's not an overhaul hike that will leave you exhausted. Take a stroll if you have no fear, and you'll be surprised at what you spy with your little eyes 👀.

Come prepared for a walk with comfortable shoes and a camera to take beautiful pictures of nature! My 5 year old had no difficulty walking the entire trail, but with all the observing we took about 2 hours. A squirrel was within a few feet of us, and we also saw turtles and various birds; the kids loved how close they got! In the past I spotted an alligator and otter, but with kids it meant more noise and less animals. This is a great place to enjoy with families!

Wonderful day out in nature. Met mom to do some exercise at Six Mile Slough. Not too busy for a Monday which was great. A little warm but a nice breeze going through cypress trees. Walked about 3 miles around boardwalk. Saw turtles sunning on logs, a ribbon snake on boardwalk, an ibis, and cormorant. Thought it was one way still but people walking both ways now. Wonderful area in town to enjoy nature, just hate that you can hear road noise, but still pretty. Great place to walk for exercise, will definitely go back and recommend.

New to Fort Myers, this is one of my favorite places to just get out and take a walk and hope to see some wildlife. As a photographer, the Slough Preserve also allows for a beautiful backdrop! The boardwalk allows for easy walks and security through the wildlife's home!

Very cool area to see wildlife. We saw alligators, a cottonmouth, fish, woodpeckers, turtles, and anhingas. December was a great time to be here. Not buggy and perfect temp. $2/hr parking and we did the main trail in just over an hour.

Had an awesome time walking the trail and looking at the plants & wildlife. This is open to the public so you do not need to pay any admission to gain entry. It offers viewing areas and interactive/informational stuff to look at throughout the park, and restrooms are located at the starting point of the trail. If you’re in Fort Myer’s, make the trip here! You will enjoy it.

My girlfriend and I went here and we found an alligator, a turtle, a woodpecker, some butterfly's, a heron, and some egrets. The walk was nice and there was absolutely no social distancing and the mask wearing was limited at best. It was a good walk and the interactive center was superb.

Beautiful preserve... Couple picnic tables at the entrance to the mini-ring so pack a snack... Mini-ring is great for a quick walk, bike ride, handicapped accessible... Was looking forward to hitting the main trails but it's the rainy season and they are underwater, at least the mile and a half to get back to them is... Have to venture back when it's dryer... Primarily these trails are for hikers & horseback.. Bicyclers this is not the place for you...

This is a fantastic place to get a look at the real Florida, the natural beauty that has managed to escape the demolition of the developers. It is a key area in the local watershed and a vital part of our ecosystem. On top of that, it"s awesome!!! The extensive boardwalks allow you to be a part of your environment without having to disturb it. As always, be respectful and enjoy yourself!

Beautiful nature abundant in flora and fauna. It will take you around 2 hours to complete the hike, especially if you are into bird watching and slowing down your pace. There are otter and gator pods but I guess one needs luck and right timing/patience to actually spot any. Make sure you have binoculars on you!! The only drawback is the noise from the interstate but we were lucky cicadas could partially mute it out. Anyways, a great getaway!

We finally made it over here after missing it the past several years, and let me share with you that we fell in love. We were able to see snakes, alligators, birds, geckos, and turtles, not to mention the beautiful vegetation. If you have a camera with a good zoom lens, I'd highly recommend bringing it. Other tips I'd offer are to arrive as the weather is warming for the day so the wildlife are a little more active, get to the area earlier to avoid long traffic lines, and be prepared to get in just over a mile of walking. The staff was helpful, and parking a breeze. This is a very incredibly beautiful place that we will visit again and again.

If you’re ever in Southwest Florida and looking for an outdoor escape, I highly recommend Six Mile Cypress Slough. Go early, as soon as it opens, for the best weather (beat the heat!) and best shot at seeing wildlife. They have a sign that says “You’re entering the quiet zone,” and if you listen you won’t regret it! Noisy groups quickly scare animals away, but if you’re quiet on a stretch of the boardwalk, you’ll see critters in no time. Don’t forget a hat and a camera!

Entry is free, the parking is hourly but cheap. Great location for a relaxing walk. Appreciate the boardwalk, not all places have them. Went their on a whim without proper shoes or big spray but it wasn't an issue at all. The only thing I'd love more is if I could bring my dog with me.

This park has a quiet zone. Kids still have a hard time keeping their excitement in for good reason. We got a good dose of peace and tranquility. We saw egrets, ibis, great blue herons, hawks and a gator. The wildlife trail is 100% on a raised boardwalk. There are multiple ponds with viewing platforms. Benches are available spaced out through the park. The boardwalk is not wide enough for 2 strollers to pass but does make nature available to those who depend on wheels.

Such a gem of a park. What a treat to walk on raised boardwalk through the forest of this area amongst the wildlife. It is a special treat to go just at sunset and see the white ibis come in to roost for the night in the stand of trees across from the largest pond. We have seen snakes, alligators, turtles, wild pigs and tons of birds. It's especially interesting mid summer when the area is flooded. It's like waking on an endless pond. Corkcrew sanctuary in Naples is great also for the same style park but a little out of the way.

Wonderful, well-maintained boardwalks and beautiful scenery. It is requested that visitors walk slowly and keep quiet so as not to disturb the wildlife (and give everyone a better chance at catching a glimpse of some native animals) Unfortunately, there were parents who allowed their children to run, stomp, and yell throughout the preserve, so my mom and I didn't get to see as much fauna as we hoped to see.

First time visiting this preserve and I LOVED IT!! It has short and long trails. Dogs are welcomed and MUST be on a leash. GOING BACK SOON

Really enjoyed the preserve, very nice, it's just so small. Half-mile path, dog friendly, very nice, with cool walkway across the pond. It's just over too soon! Love the auto gate when you leave.

It was flooded, couldn't go very far. Drove to the other end and tried walking the red trail. It doesn't seem to be taken care of.

Beautiful nature trails and a couple semi clean bathrooms, however, it is a great place for kids to be worn out.

I have observed that this entry mentions "biking," but biking is not permitted in this location. Someone should probably correct this fact.

Amazing place to walk and exercise but you have to have a lot of energy to walk because somedays you don't have a lot of energy and you get tired pretty fast. But if you are a energetic person this would be a really good place to go and exercise and there's horse trails of. You like to ride I have never been done them but they look like fun!

The course was great, the conditions were great but there was a cart git thaw as s a complete jerk. I am handicap and i need assistance sometimes. The guy was extremely rude & talked down me. He was purposely talking to me like i was a five year old. I will not be recommending this place to anyone

The short loop trail has a hard pack walking path and partial boardwalk. There is partial shade on the trail and an observation blind, but during dry season there is usually no wildlife to observe. At the trailhead there are restrooms and a large paved parking lot with ample room for quite a few horse trailers. The separate horseback/hiking trail is not as well maintained and goes for about two miles where it joins several trails extending over twenty miles. Overall a pleasant location for hiking or riding.

Great little place for everyone, young, old, and even those who need assistance. Very peaceful and beautiful. Lots of wildlife to be seen, especially if you like bird watching. Only saw one alligator on my visit, but it was also very busy the day I was there.

  • 5/5 Scott R. 3 years ago on Google
We were looking for a nice hike to do with our kids and some friends recommended the boardwalk trail here. It did not disappoint! First there were bathrooms right at the trailhead which was great. The trail itself was semi-shaded which was a nice relief from constant sunshine. There were also roofed observation points all along the trail which made for great spots to sit and take a break!

Great boardwalk through a slough. We saw alligators, turtles, fish and birds. Walk is free but you must pay for parking. We spent about 2 hours walking and then ate our picnic lunch. Highly recommend.

Would be a five star if we saw more wild life. We did participate in the quite suggestions to be able to see more but only saw a beautiful red headed woodpecker, some fish and turtles. Not disappointed though. The foliage was awesome as well the wooded path.

  • 5/5 Christina W. 3 years ago on Google
Great place, wish we could have stayed longer to explore more. We saw lots of different birds, fish, turtles, flowers, and plants. Loved the paper interactive guides for kids so they can seek out different things on their walk.

The Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is an excellent example of Florida wetland. The facilities are well maintained and a great deal of effort has been spent on educational materials and signage. The boardwalk makes this an easy walk for just about anyone with benches spread throughout to rest as needed. Adult and children maps make this an engaging activity for all ages. This is about an hour long walk if you do both loops at a leisure pace so take water with you if “hiking” in the heat of the day. You are in a cypress swamp so sunscreen isn’t necessary unless you burn ridiculously easy. Bug spray may be helpful as mosquitoes are indiscriminate suckers and thrive in wetlands. Please… NO PETS! And for the love of nature…. DON’T feed anything!!

What a cool place! We hadn't intended to come here but at the last minute decided to. A nice boardwalk throughout. A bunch of ibis' flew into the trees for the evening and we heard a Barred owl but couldn't spot it. Spall fee to park but worth it.

Lovely place to walk and feel the nature around you. I went during dry season so there weren’t many animals but squirrels. But you can hear the birds and smell the nature. Loved it.

  • 5/5 Vicki R. 2 years ago on Google
This is an absolutely beautiful nature preserve! Stop in the Education Center first for an overview of what to look for. The volunteers are very friendly, helpful and informative! Be sure to take your time and walk quietly along the boardwalk, watching carefully along the way so you don't miss anything. Take a picnic, and relax!

Nice stop, nice boardwalk, good place to see the bald cypress trees. The lower loop along Gator Lake is closed for repairs (was told it would reopen in July) so it took less than an hour to walk the rest of the boardwalk at a good pace. I saw ducks and geckos, didn't see any gators. The Interpretative Center was also nice, and the two ladies staffing it inside were very friendly and gave me tips on which beaches to see and which are closed due to still recovering from the hurricane. $1 per hour to park, pay with Visa Mastercard (no Discover) at the easy to use kiosk which prints a permit to put on your dash. I paid $2 for2 hours and stayed an hour and a half

We were hesitant but really glad we went! This isn't the place to go and smash out a quick walk. Instead take your time, look around for wildlife, and read the signs. It's a good place to bring children & grandparents too, as it's very safe and easy. Lots of birds, fish, turtles, and even a small water moccasin. Parking is $1/hr, 2 hrs was plenty for us to do the boardwalk, take our time, and visit the visitors center.

My cousins (Edna and Jo) took me to this hidden gem which provides a picturesque setting for nature enthusiasts and those seeking tranquility. As you enter Six Mile Cypress, you are immediately greeted by a lush canopy of towering cypress trees, creating a soothing and inviting ambiance. The well-maintained trails wind through the preserve, guiding you on a peaceful journey through the natural beauty of Southwest Florida. The diverse ecosystem within Six Mile Cypress is a paradise for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Throughout our visit, we encountered a variety of bird species, including herons, egrets, and ospreys, gracefully soaring overhead or perched along the water's edge. The preserve is also home to turtles, alligators, 🐊 snake 🐍 and other native wildlife, offering ample opportunities for observing and appreciating nature up close

Just pay for parking. It’s a unique environment for a hike. I didn’t notice any bug’s biting and I spent about 90 minutes walking the boardwalks after a quick rain shower. It wasn’t overly crowded and I was able to take my time and read the informational boards about the local wildlife and plants.

  • 5/5 Andy G. 5 months ago on Google
It was a fun time for minimal cost. In fact, the only cost is the parking, which is $1 per hour. They have an elaborate boardwalk that leads around the grounds and offers varying nature and wildlife viewing. Fun for all ages.
