Beautiful and interesting exhibits in this Museum. The architecture is nice and fits perfectly the space . Right now there is a great exhibition about analog photography. You have to go and have a look!

Only could visit the part about musical instruments. Almost everything was exclusively in German. Had to translate most of it with my cell phone. I don't recommend it if you don't speak German. If you do, the exposition is quite interesting and many items are intriguing

The museum of applied arts was very interesting and gave a great insight into the evolution of art being applied in daily life and how artists worked to shape solutions that can be used by all. Often you don't look at it as art but the perspectives here help you see things differently and appreciate them more.

Big variety and beautiful displays. Interesting how they are trying to deal with their colonial past.

Amazing museum with plenty of exhibitions, which vary in their complexity. From ceramics to musical instruments, and even both combined! That's a challenge for you: find a ceramic violin :)

Very beautiful and interesting collection of applied arts over 3000 years. From ancient Egypt and Rome to modern 1970s furniture and appliances

Can't understand why this place doesn't get more attention on Leipzig guides. If this was in a major city it would be rightly regarded as a world-class museum, housed in a beautiful Art Deco building. For fans it's worth it for the architecture and light fittings alone! In particular I loved the applied arts area's array of Art Deco homewares and their medieval to Renaissance objects. The whole thing is well-curated and not just "let's put everything we have on display". The cafe is one of the best museum cafes I've eaten at, all freshly made and good range of vegetarian options. The shop is a reasonable size and has some interesting books, just a shame their catalogues don't have everything in them (although the attendants had no problems with us photographing objects). Most signage is German only but there are some English. There are also English guide leaflets and an audio tour to help. If you like history, art and design do not leave the city without coming here.

The museum has 3 sections. We visited the Musical Instruments and the Ethnographic sections but not the Applied Arts section. They have a large and wonderful collection of musical instruments but my inability to read German impinged on my understanding of the collection. The Ethnographic section is in the process of changing their philosophy to one that respects the people and culture of the objects. The displays themselves are in transition. While this is a good idea, for now the galleries are in a bit of a mess. I hope to come back in a year to see what they've done.

This is a fantastic museum for anyone who (or whose kids) has an interest in world cultures. Full of impressive ethnographic artefacts and installations, plus the wing full of centuries-old instruments that have passed through Leipzig is also impressive.

Very impressive collection of the musical instruments, not only European, with some very curious specimens. "Sound laboratory" was also very cool, though a bit skewed to various simple percussion instruments. Maybe the only disadvantage is the lack of English translation for a big part of exhibits.

I didn't have enough time to visit all 3 museums included in the kombi-ticket. A very large collection of artefacts some dated 4-6000 years ago. Must visit in Leipzig.

The applied arts section of this museum was the biggest disappointment for me. Not worth your time and money at all. An absurd collection of objects from antiquity to present day. Can only be interesting if you have never visited a similar museum elsewhere.

I just had time to go to the section of Applied Arts and to say that I was blown away is to say nothing. The collections of different eras are mesmerizing, but the collection dedicated to the early 20th century of Bauhaus movement was simply breathtaking: furniture pieces by Mies van der Rohe, paintings by Franz Ehrlich, sketches of Triadisches Ballet to name a few.

Truly one of the best museums I've been to in years! The exhibits were well planned out and displays were informative. Musical instruments, to modern jewelry, to Asian equations there's so much in display to see here. Plan on spending at least 4 hours to see and read it all.

Beautiful museum , part of the Grassi museums, in a beautiful building. It does not seem big but we spent three hours on this collection, that takes you from the classical era to the modern times. It is an excellent complement to the Stadtmuseum in the Altes Rathaus. There were almost no visitors, which surprises me, this museum deserves much more attention. Afterwards, take a walk in the lovely Johannisfriedhof behind the museum. More a park than a cemetery.

One of their exhibits displays the history of the tegion, including beautiful stained glass from the thirteenth century. I was very impressed with this museum and I highly recommend anyone passing through Leipzig to check it out!

This is a fantastic place. You definitely need a full day (maybe more) to do the whole museum. We did this part in an afternoon which wasn't long enough for a proper visit This is on the list of places we need to re-visit.

Great ethnography exhibition. In the meantime, a way more info and especially explanation in English is needed.

A very nice museum with excellent collection. I also liked the way displays were placed - good lights and bright red walls.

Ruge very intelligent organized collection. I would kindly suggest to improve the Brazilian session. This is a continental country and even though the African influence is very interesting there is really a lot more to be depicted from North, Northeast and center East.

Awesome. You could spend days looking at the displays here. Well worth it.

Cash only, no ATMs. Especially in an era of covid this is unacceptable.

If you admire what people could do in old days with simple tools, this is the place to go. I am always perplexed how they could make such detailed and beautiful clothing and jewelry without lasers and precise tools. Just to sum up my confused thoughts - it is really beautiful, just make sure to take guidebook in your language at the beginning because the texts inside are in German. Reserve 2-4 hours.
