It's the most dirty place where I have ever been! Most of the sheets that were placed on the beds and supposed to be "clean", whereas they were obviously used! When we said to the receptionist that it was missing a coverlet, she found a coverlet under a bed and she put it on the pillow of one of the beds. There were two cats that were walking all around the place, including the beds and the tables. Therefore, if you are allergic to cats, this place is forbidden! Finally, the reception supposed to be open at 7:00am, nevertheless we were waiting until 8:20am and it was still closed. So the kitchen was locked and we never managed to take our food from the fridge although we had asked a day before about the working schedule of the reception. Moreover, nobody informed us that the kitchen would be locked during the night! (and the morning!) The only reason that the atmosphere was more friendly and kozy were some of the employees and a client who is always there.

Saturday: Just arrived. Friendly staff and clear instructions. The floor in the room is wet and slippery. I've dried it with some toilet paper and the toilet paper is now grey/black. There's a hole in the wall, enough beds for an army (single occupancy), no fire instructions. So far, not so good. Sunday: Bed and TV were ok. Breakfast: worst coffee I have ever tasted. Fresh white rolls but mouldy or stale brown bread. I don't know how this establishment was awarded 2 stars.

Stay here only if you have absolutely no alternative. The check-in took a lot of time and costs were unclear. Service given at the reception was good but the cleanliness of the building, toilets and room very poor. Opening times of reception are impractical. This place needs a make-over, I would not come back. The friendly cats are a plus.

They literally stole €10 from me (mistake?) and ignore my request. The staff (who was amazing apart from one awful girl you'd easily recognize if you ever had to deal with this hotel) tells me to contact the boss. I've been calling, emailing many email addresses, I just keep being ignored. Why would I rate the rest of the experience, just don't stay there they might simply steal your money.

Online there are quite nice pictures of the room, but after seeing the place realized they are very old - quite ran down place and generally dirty! We had a room which we occupied alone (2 persons) and paid 75€/ night - definitely too much for a hostel but expected a hotel as per website. Would recommend the owners to really clean up everything, change the rugs etc: the staircase and shared rooms smell and the 2 cats walk everywhere including on the dirty plates left after breakfast on the sink and tables. The sheets were clean but the floor in our room was definitely not. The bathroom was big, without a shower curtain (everything gets wet), but worst was that it was very humid and black mold was already on all walls. Very friendly employees at the reception - but the reception is closed between 12 and 14:30.

When I first moved here it was amazing place, I met so ma y good people there and stayed friends for long. I came to Utrecht and I was looking for accommodation so I was living in this hostel for a longer period as many other people. We cooked together, there is well equipped kitchen, big common area, guitars, table football, pinball, during Xmas nice decorations and even social dinner available for guests is happening occasionally. The rooms are clean but right now overcrowded with beds, too many for small room. Also fee for registration at the property is 5.50 recently which is not cool. U have codes for every door so u don't need to carry key or card.

I stayed here for 1 night and went to a concert. I did not spend a lot of time here, but there are some things I can say. Staff is very friendly. The stairs were crazy steep. To access the hostel and your room, you had to use a code which was a lot nicer than carrying a card around. I stayed in a 2 person room with bathroom. It was quite big in my opinion and they left the window open so there was a lot of nice fresh air in the room. The pillows were really nice, the free wifi worked and the tv was okay as well. You could get free coffee and tea at any time, it was self service. But now for the more negative points. There was a hole in the wall and a hole in the bathroom door. The bathroom smelled very strongly of cleaning supplies and there was black mold growing on the bathroom walls / ceiling. We got towels that looked dirty, not sure if they were, could have been a permanent stain. The floor was a little sticky and when laying on the mattress you keep rolling towards the middle which was a bit annoying. The list with negatives seems quite long, but it really wasn't all that bad. It is not a hotel, it is a hostel and that's what you should expect. I wouldn't stay here for 2 weeks, but just a few days is totally fine and doable. I recommend this place only to people that aren't that whiny ;)

Unfriendly staff, random people walking in at night who were not part of the room. Me and 3 girls did not feel safe there and I would not recommend going. We did not even stay one night. Do not go

Skip it ! We had bedbugs in the room (September 2020). We tried several times to get in contact with the management but never got any news, nor reimbursement.

Fraud. Stay was cancelled according to regulations on booking.com. Money was still charged months later under a different name (ACP*S Hotel), making it impossible to legally relate it to the Stone Hotel (I only found out because the same happened to friends). Employee at the desk won't give out the manager's number, only his E-mail. After saying he will check the reservation, he never replied again. Will file charges. Also, the place smells.

Watch out! 😡 My credit was charged with more than 500€ for a reservation that I cancelled already months ago. Asking the hostel staff on the phone if they could give me back my money they forwarded me to their manager who has no phone-number and never answered my e-mail! A friend of mine was treated similarly and on first sight I found at least one review which tells a similar story. edit: I did cancel in due time following the policies and was still charged. Additionally you deleted my post on your facebook-page and still didn't reply any of my e-mails and didn't call me back.

I had an amazing 3 days here... the price/quality is fine, you get what you pay for. I travel a lot and in total I lived for more then 2 years in hostels all over the world... The Stone hostel is the most authentic en genuine hostel where I have ever been. I will come back after they renovated the place! Cheers! and have fun!

Only stayed one night. Smelly rooms, very dirty, the towels you have to pay are tiny hand towels. The bathroom was extremely dirty, you could not flush the toilet as it was broken, no tap available in the sink and last but not least the shower was also unusable. Cannot recommend.

I genuinely liked this place and I really enjoyed speaking with a couple of the staff members. The place is very small, quiet, and overall pretty nice. The kitchen was adequate and free coffee/tea was nice. The beds were comfy as well. My big complaint is that the shower in one of the dorm rooms has a "frosted" glass sliding door that I think is not quite frosty enough to blur out the person inside. As a solo female traveler I felt pretty uncomfortable realising this after I had already taken a shower. There is, however, another shower upstairs with a solid opaque door. I just feel this is an important point for other travelers to be aware of. Overall I would probably stay here again; the location is really good and I really enjoyed the large windows overlooking the street.
