I have been using this gym for the last three years and is just getting worst. Right now the female showers can't be used as the drains are blocked. Who wants to have their feet sumerged in dirty water and get some fungal problem? Not me. Well, this has been the situation for a week. Then there are the "normal" problems that the management does not invest back into the facilities: there are broken handles, missing handles, loose fixings, damp on the ceeling, water is too hot in the showers and they seem uncapable of lowering the temperature (say goodbye to beautiful hair with frequent showers in this gym), the cleaner just sprays water with a hose on the showers instead of properly cleaning them and then there is the cleaning room supplies that has a door that the cleaner leaves open very often regardless of the fact that if the men's changing rooms door side is opened by their cleaner, well, or you have a good view of the men's changing room or pray you are not naked and men are looking at you "accidentally". In the women's changing room there is a loo that has been broken for like forever, leaving only three loos...yes. then there is other loo that can't really flush because no one has bother to fix thr valve tha leaks water all the time (since I joined this gym). According to the management, it is still a functional loo. And there is the hair dryer that is not working, how difficult is to replace a broken dryer? How expensive? Seems too difficult to maintain the facilities regardless of the numerous members they have. Where is the mony going. To add to this, the pool is not working, will be available until January. Is it because we (members) are not expected to come on December?

Swimming pool ALWAYS closed for maintenance. Big waste of time every time I came packed all stuff and found out it's closed and then you can't use the gym either because you are not properly dressed. Then I need to go back wasting all the time and without exercising a bit. I have been a student near this building for less than one year and as I remembered the swimming pool has been closed for at least 4months. It's shown that the opening time until 10 pm. But it doesn't shown here that the swimming pool close at 7pm, and after that that's for private purpose you can't use your membership card. Bad customer service.i think they have this proud attitude because they are not worrying about customers because it's located near school and it has lots of students coming. DONT BUY IT! NOT Worth It!

So I've been to the swimming pool once and never came back. It's dirty and you can clearly see the filth on the floor of the pool with goggles. It seems that it has not been cleaned in a while (and I used the pool the day after the reopening, on the 13th of January). Plus, I returned to the swimming pool on a Sunday at around 11am and suddenly found myself surrounded by naturist swimmer, and there was not even a twitter or a notice that the swimming pool was to be filled with naked people. Sorry but I found it ridiculous. Unluckily I did the monthly membership but I'm surely not going to renew it.

First time I've bought a proper gym membership and so far extremely happy with the decision to become a member at Energybase. £240 for an annual membership (student) is a great deal - includes classes, access to pool etc. Staff always extremely friendly and happy to help if you have any questions. Generally go to the gym during the day, in-between lectures etc and have never had to wait for a machine / weights. Can get busier in the evening around 6ish. Pool is a huge plus - plenty of lanes for different speeds. Great range of weight machines and treadmills, bikes, rowing machines etc. Classes I've been to have been great. Only negative - shame about the changing rooms. The toilets and showers are a little bit grim... other than that would highly recommend.

(Translated by Google) I went to the pool right after it reopened, so the water was cool enough (but suddenly completely clean). The basin has a rather odd size of 33m. Unfortunately no window. Sunday midday, there is a naturist session.

I got an email from the manager saying I can join for 32 pounds. However, when I arrived I was asked to pay 140 pounds and their website says 32 for students. Worst service ever. Went to bannatyne down the road for 29 pounds a month with great service

Good pool and good range of gym equipment. There are issues with the pool resulting in closures but this is understandable considering its age. The staff on duty are usually friendly. Suggestions for improvement: * Lower temperature in Gym, improve ventilation * Put up flags in pool during lane swimming * Alternate clockwise and anti-clockwise lanes for safety reasons * Ask lifeguards to tactfully direct slow swimmers (especially head up breaststrokers) from the fast lane into the slower lanes to prevent dangerous situations where other swimmers are having to overtake them and risking contact with oncoming swimmers - there is actually a note on the "Fast Lane" board but it's never enforced.

Can definitely recommend the place! 1.Great for a swim workout due to its length. The pool is almost never busy so it's perfect for my triathlon training. 2.The staff is always friendly and helpful, happy to help and even show you some great exercises if you ask nicely:):) 3.The classes (all included in the price of the membership) are smashing (of course only if you like to be pushed to the limits). One of, if not the best place in Central London to have your daily portion of exercise!

Nothing wrong with the gym but the staff there look like they’d rather be anywhere but there. So rude, with curt replies and incredibly bored expressions. I went to sign up on the spot and the entire procedure just made me feel like i’m stupid or something. “Hi, I’m signing up.” “Are you going to use the gym later?” “Yes.” “For how long?” “Er, probably an hour?” *lady rolls eyes, takes a deep breath* “No how long do you want the membership to be.” “Oh, six months.” Cringe. —————————————— “Fill this form for me, and only UK numbers can be put down.” “Okay.” *fills form, but encounters ‘emergency contact’ and momentarily forget the UK number policy and writes down my dad’s number which is Singaporean.’* *lady eyes the number* “Are you sure this is a UK number?” “Er, no —“ “I TOLD YOU, only UK numbers!” “Right, okay but I have no other numbers— (that are reliable, i’m an international student with irresponsible friends!!!)“ “You don’t know any friends here?” “Uh, I do. Okay. I’ll put one of theirs. (If they actually pick up. So good luck calling them in an actual emergency situation.)” ————— Yup.

I only use the pool so I can’t speak for the gym, but I really enjoy using the pool here. It’s a satisfying length at 33m, is always clean and never overcrowded when I come (usually after work on weekdays about 5pm, and Saturday morning before 10am). The water is a nice, comfortably warm temperature. The changing rooms are roomy, have plenty of lockers, good hairdryers, decent showers (hot and cold) and they are generally very clean - more so if you arrive early. All the staff I’ve encountered have been friendly and helpful. It’s a lovely place to unwind after work.

The combination of high price (GBP12 if you are not a student), and incredibly poor facilities makes it top on my "never to return" list. Note: they do not accept cash. Yes. Seriously Some of the highlights: 1. there is no toilet in the changing room. 1.1 changing room showers have no temperature control. you can choose between different booths with a "cold", "luke-warm" (read: cold), and "lobster would boil in it" shower 2. pool has no bottom lanes, good luck with the turns 2.1 pool temperature is comfortable 28-9C. Great if you are a bit old and need a place to urinate (see 1), but quite terrible if you want to do a workout. Apparently US students really are spoiled.

Was looking for a new gym to attend during my lunch break as evenings get too busy at my normal gym. Decided to get a day pass to try this out. Being a student, the prices seem reasonable enough. The location is also pretty good as it is within range of the student area and close to my university. Staff themselves seemed quite helpful and explained how things work and what they had on offer. The swimming pool seems like a great bonus. If you are into weight training however, this is not the gym for you. The weights area is tiny, without even a full squat rack. The closest is either a Smith machine, or a quasi squat rack which is really better designed for benching as it is not a full rack. Even on a lunch time the weights section got packed pretty quickly. There is maybe 4 benches in the full gym, so even though there wasn't that many people, it was saturated to capacity. I can't comment on the evenings, but I assume its a nightmare. I felt like I was stepping on people's toes just to get around. The equipment is old and worn out. Some of the dumbells are that worn you can't actually see what weight you are picking up! There seems to be quite a few cardio machines, so if you're into that kind of stuff then maybe it could be a better experience. Overall I just feel that for my purposes, the gym is inadequate. It's probably the smallest weights section I've ever been in - which is very disappointing as the area and staff are great. If you do manage to fit in the area, you'll be waiting ages for a spot even if its not that busy.

well set up gym with good range of equipment. I was made to feel quite welcome by staff and was offered a quick tutorial on how to use some of the less familiar machines. Didn’t feel intimidating at all. good vibes ?

I will always have amazing memories of this gym. I worked out here for my year abroad away from the States, and I still remember the fantastic and very helpful staff, and the bevy of heart-pumping fitness classes (all included in the membership price might I add...) I suggest this gym to all my friends who either study at the UoL, or choose to vacation in Central London.

You are not allowed to learn swimming here, google should give the zero star option, not even deserve one.

  • 1/5 Andy M. 6 years ago on Google
Completely unreliable. They take your money for a years membership but then the pool (which is the main reason for going because the gym is basic at best) closes at the drop of a hat every few weeks. Great when it works but definitely not recommended if you want to actually get the service you paid for.

It seems that they usually close their swimming pool over the summer. Apart from that, their staff is very friendly and their gym is well-equipped.

  • 3/5 B C. 5 years ago on Google
The staff while friendly but do little to enforce the gym rules, even basic ones like returning weights ( I don't want to spend 20% of my time in the gym, changing weights out).

Well my year's subscription at Energybase is up... and I couldn't be more glad. The gym is cramped and pretty poorly equipped. One crappy squat rack, one bench press station, one pullup bar. Most of the dumbbells' weight labels have come off so you have to waste time trying to figure out what weight they are (A problem that was not addressed throughout the entire year). The changing rooms, showers and toilets were sometimes a bit gross. However, the worst part of Energybase (And the reason I felt compelled to write this review) is the customer service. Almost all of the receptionists (Except for one brown-haired girl) were extremely unfriendly. Some of them were actually very rude. I see from other people's reviews that I'm not the only person to have felt this way. If it's a problem that management has known about for a while then why has nothing been done about it? The swimming pool is decent but on a whole, I definitely would not recommend this gym.

This gym has been part of my daily routine for 3 years now and, I can't stay without it. It's a very friendly place, from trainers to costumers - never felt judged or uncomfortable. During classes (my favourite ones are at lunchtime with Brenda and Aga), we suffer and struggle together but also, have a lot of fun. In this way, it's much easier keeping on fit (or just moving). But the most valuable thing is that you can improve a lot your technique: since classes are not very crowded, most of the trainers are very keen to teach you how to make exercises correctly.

Just been around gyms in central London and thank god I found Energybase. The staff on arrival were amazing & very helpful. The main gym is a decent size with a variety of equipment. The swimming Pool OMG ...is massive There are a great variety of classes and as a student, great value for money

From the start, I was greeted by a friendly team at reception. I was offered a membership to save money, but as I was only here for a week before holiday I opted for a day pass. I asked for an induction in the gym and a member of the team offered her time to help me with machines which was kind. She gave me a lot of information on how to build my fitness and recommended the best fitness classes for my goals, all of which are included. I then swam, in what seemed like pool that never ends. Its 33m and I am only used to 25m! Overall had a great workout, the facilities are lovely and the staff were keen to help. My only request is to bring your own googles as they do not sell them - maybe they can do in the future

Very nice gym and most of time not crowded. If you are looking for a pool. The pool at Energybase is the largest in central London. The staff is amazing and very friendly!

The staff (for the most part) are friendly, however one female member of staff on two occasions has belittled me and made me feel uncomfortable. She has also been extremely inattentive lifeguard I have been swimming and she’s had her back to the pool on more than one occasion for long periods of time supposedly teaching another lifeguard. I feel this is extremely inappropriate as a lifeguard and a member of staff we as customers are supposed to trust

Outstanding place and good value for money. I joined in 2017 and over the last 2 years I've learnt an incredible amount from the trainers; Steven, Rochelle, Gareth and Brenda. They are very experienced and are always willing to share their knowledge and work with you to meet your targets by providing individualised work out plans and free personal training. The classes are dynamic and varied, with high quality equipment provided. At £125 for 6 months, the membership price is very affordable and good for students in central London.

This gym is a Gem. Right in the heart of London you can get the best price and the best workout. Without a doubt the Olympic size swimming pool would be enough to get you in, but the many available classes and various coaches that regularly teach are the best deal! You can get into whatever excersize routine ou like, from Yoga to Zumba, from kickboxing to Spinning all included into your fee. The gym is of a nice size and the workout area offers everything you need, just don’t be the guy that works out with a mobile phone, take the advantages of the gym and the bundle price and explore all the many classes available. We love this place !!!

  • 1/5 Antonio M. 5 years ago on Google

My favorite gym in London, they have the best classes eveerrrr The programs are amazing, Zumba, Strong by zumba and LBT are my favorite. They always listen to the feedback and try to adjust accordingly, which I find great as other gyms just collect feedback and never do anything about it. The swimming pool is verrrry big and always clean. And they are the only gym that do provide free personal training sessions. I love this place, I purchased 1 month, ended up purchasing one year.

I miss this gym so much!! I went there for 2.5 years. I loved it, the staff was friendly and always available for a chat especially Brenda, Stephen and Gareth. Unfortunately, I dont work nearby anymore :( thank you guys for the nice time I have had coming there, I really felt like home. I wish you all the best :) and perhaps I will see you soon.

I signed up at EnergyBase during the year I lived in London and my experience couldn’t have been better. I particularly enjoyed the great offer of classes (pilates, yoga, spinning, body combat, Zumba and a lot more!). My favourite class was HIIT, ideal for fat burning and body toning. Steven was always willing to adapt any exercise I couldn’t do because of my shoulder injury and he also gave me some specific exercises for my injury. He was really helpful and his classes were a good workout and very fun. I really appreciated the good vibes from all the staff. If I ever come back to London I will definitely sign up for the gym again! :)
