Love this store, I’ve come here twice to get fish and they have a very wide range of everything you need at decent prices. Also the staff are very informative and friendly.

We drove an hour across London because this place has a great reputation, and it is well deserved. Terry runs it, and we got Chris, who helped us make really good well informed choices. He was fun, cheerfully expert at his job, and very patient. He made it a real experience, and the shop is like going to a really good aquarium in any case, but without having to pay entrance. Brilliant place to go.

By the time the owner finishes reading this, he’ll know who I am. The vast majority of poor reviews are coming from people who lack the knowledge of fish keeping, but want all the benefits of wanting to buy a fish of their choosing. What people don’t realise is that once the fish is sold, the responsibility falls at the hands of the customer of keeping live creatures. There is a lot preparation and well-informed decision making that goes towards keeping fish keeping and a lot of that knowledge base comes the internet and YouTube - Gain that knowledge first before you blindly make any sort of purchase! Trying and failing to understand why you don’t remove fish from your aquarium and cleaning it with fairy liquid and rinsing out gravel by hand under a tap is all the better reason why you shouldn’t keep fish, believe me I’ve heard some horror stories. If you understand what nitrates and nitrites are and how beneficial bacteria colonises in your tank, then you won’t have to worry about an imminent death. You will also find that there are treatments for tap water, which makes it safe for your fish, treatment which breaks down chlorine in tap water and lowers the pH equivalent to their wild environment, so that fish have a good quality of life. I have purchased 2 Royal plecos (L191 and an L27) and an L81 Gold nugget and they are doing extremely well. I do a weekly/bi-weekly water change and regularly overstock on food and aquarium treatment. I vacuum the gravel and I remove 80% of water (absolutely necessary for plecos), I retain some of that tank water in a bucket to clean the filter sponges and bio media (never rinse filter sponges and bio media under tap water) and before I let fresh new tap water enter into my tank, I add the appropriate amount of aquarium treatment in to the remaining 20% of the water. I also add some aquarium treatment into my filter sponges and bio media. Failure to doing this is absolute death sentence for your fish. Your well-established tank will need bogwood, which lowers the pH naturally to allow fish to thrive. Plants are optional/dependent upon the species of fish and water temperatures and feeding intervals are essential. I have visited Wholesale Tropicals for all my fish keeping needs and requirements and they are very knowledgeable and will answer your questions (if you ask). I couldn’t recommend these guys enough, they have absolutely brilliant. Terry the owner is a brilliant guy and I can tell there is a lot of passion in his craft. You either have the passion and the heart and soul of wanting to keep fish and responsibilities of fish keeping or you don’t. Just don’t buy fish blindly without doing your homework first. And for those of you who think that race is an issue, I am that big Indian guy with glasses who visits that shop every couple of weeks and I’ve had nothing but good old banter with the owner. He’s a good man (I did say he’ll recognise me). 👍🏽

Found the shop online and thought to check it out. What a lovely shopping experience! Helpful, knowledgeable and salt-of-the-earth staff. 6 star service. Great variety in fish, plants and accessories. For sure my new go-to, one stop aquarium store from now on.

I love this place, staff is always friendly even if you have to wait awhile cos this place can be really busy. Very good selection of fish and equipment. The owner is a nice and cheeky fella, always helpful with his knowledge and very chatty. Because of their service and good attitude it is my no1 aquatics shop in London.

Highly recommended this is the type of place you can go into and get lost in I would hardly recommend to anyone even just to look around and see what different fish they have. I spoke to a gentleman called Terry who was really friendly and was able to buy one of their aquariums. He explained all the different types of fish we were interested in as well as what would be good for beginners he took his time explaining everything. Will definitely be going there to buy all my other equipment. Amazing customer service. Highly recommend

Brilliant as usual! Been going to the shop since I was a child.. about 30 years now. The staff are always friendly and helpful the fishes are a great selection. The team are very knowledgeable and will help find the right fish for your tank.. Terry's shop has become my go to place for my aquatics needs and hope the continued success of the business (otherwise I'll be stuck without a decent aquatics shop!).

Great shop, always well stocked with fish and plants, I have never had an issue with anything I have bought. The shop is great but the truly great thing about this shop are the guys that work there, their passion and knowledge is unmatched. They are honest & trustworthy. I enjoy coming back to update my tank but I also love coming in to see the guys. I would not go anywhere else.

This is by far the best place to find everything you need to support this hobby! Without spending a mini fortune. I can’t even describe fantastic service and genuine banter all around the shop. Every single one of those guys have tons of experience and it’s more then willing to help and suggest suitable product, fish, mantis, turtle or whatever you are after. Absolute love this place ! Thanks Team

Been coming to this shop for 7 years now, since I got my first fish tank. Stuff is incredible there, always helpful. When I had light and thermometer broken, they just asked to bring it in, and swapped one of the parts free of charge as it was faulty. definitely recommend!

Great variety of aquatic animals and products available. The staff is very helpful and they don't try to push you items you do not need. Research about the pet you want before going to the shop, what they eat, companions and the best set up as some animals require a minimum size aquarium/terrarium to live, that will help you choose between the options they have available. Also, bear in mind they are live animals and there is the set up cost and the maintenance costs as well as your time to take care of them properly.

This was the best aquatic shop I ever went with a large variety of fishes and and aquatic products including turtles etc. Even the men over there was knowledgeable about them and also able to provide solution for all our decision makings and doubts regarding them. The customer service was also really good. The crowd over there can say that how much demand that the shop have.

Largest range of exotic and non-exotic pet fish and accessories in central London area - place has existed for years. Owners are helpful and friendly and there's a David Beckham lookalike working there too - customer service excellent.

Very poor after sales service. Fish wouldn’t eat and developed visible illness within a couple of days. Wouldn’t even offer to exchange it for another or allow return for refund. My parameters are perfect. 0 ammonia and nitrites and 10ppm nitrate. It’s a heavily planted tank which has been running & maintained for over 7 months. The old guy, Terry is unapproachable & has a foul mouth. Very unprofessional. Other than that, the other staff members are fine & there’s a wide variety of livestock

Terry is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. if he doesn't make you laugh then you do not have a sense of humour. I've been going to the shop since I was a kid now as an adult I cannot get enough. Hopefully the cost of energy doesn't run these gems to the ground.

Simply the best tropical fish shop I ever visit. Sadly my visits are all too infrequent but the 3 or 4 times I manage to get there the shop never disappoints. More tanks than most shops allows for more stock and different kinds of fish from killies to catfish there is always something new to discover. Despite always being busy, the staff are very happy to share information. I talk to a different generation now but the love for the hobby is still obvious. I would highly recommend a visit.

Aquatic-shops don’t get much better than this. A true establishment. The shop has been around for over 50 years and has become a place of pilgrimage for fish-keepers around London! A great selection of both community and tank-buster fish although numbers have been reduced over the past couple of years. Competitive pricing and a great bunch of guys who work there. Proper EastEnders! Keep up the good work and never shut!

Recently moved within the area thinking I would have to travel quite far to satisfy my aquarium needs. I ended up stumbling across this place by coincidence, and after spending quite a few years in this hobby i can confidently say this store is one of the best I've visited. Is it store with an aesthetically pleasing modern layout? NO. However, it is one of those places which you can tell that a lot of love has been poured into its upkeeping. Truly a store run by hobbyists, providing one of the most diverse selections of fish I ever seen and years worth of knowledge to help guide your decisions. While reading some of the negative reviews, you have to understand that the store can get quite busy and the staff are only human so its understandable that pestering them while they are doing something may leave a bad impression. Be patient and wait until they are free, and I promise they are some of the funniest and kind people you'll meet and will happily lend a hand. Definitely my go to store. If I were to leave a minor constructive criticism, their use of Latin names to label fish may be a little challenging for those newer in the hobby and perhaps the use of more common names may help. I have been visiting this store nearly every other day recently and plan to continue doing so.

Had been looking forward to visiting this store for months but was shocked and disappointed. Staff didn't seem bothered, one even talking me out of my purchase and explaining everything I had learnt about keeping fish was wrong (I've kept fish before). I had a list of items I wanted to purchase for my new tank but left, empty-handed, defensive, and disappointed.

I have visited many times and have got everything I needed for my fish here. They delivered the tank to me for free. Chris is a great guy because 1. He prioritises the wellbeing of my fish instead of profit, by suggesting the right amount of cichlid to get and rejecting the bigger amount I proposed. 2. He is an expert in fish and has answered all my questions better than ChatGPT. 3. He is kind and empathetic. He consoled me when I was worried about my fish and exchanged the fish for me when they didn’t get along with their tank mates. He is also generous to give discounts. Highly recommend Wholesale Tropicals to starters and veterans.

Friendly service. However, we were falsely informed about two fish that could be paired together. Was not refunded for the purchase of the group of fish, after one fish ate the other.

The first aquatics store that I have been in London and I must say the staffs here are so knowledgeable. Bought my first ever cichlid which was a parrot fish then ever since I have never in doubt buying again. A massive shoutout to Chris and Terry there are the top guys to look for! Very friendly staffs and reliable. Highly recommended.

Larger than expected, very well stocked with varieties of fish and tank and aquarium plants. I only brought a few cherry shrimp and a box of water lettuce. They all doing great, both of them multiply very quick in my tank.

Loads of tropical fish some common and not so common ones. Got some great advice from the lads there well worth travrling to.

Would not recommend. Initially bought 6 guppies around a year ago, they were all pretty healthy until we introduced two dwarf Gouramis and amano shrimp (also from this shop) which we’re carrying Camallanus worms as well as who knows what which has since wiped out half of the guppies before we had a chance to properly treat them. The dead fish in lots of tanks should have been a warning sign tbh I wish I went with my gut at the time. I have never bought any fish or plants from anywhere else so 100% the problem came from this shop. Also worth mentioning that when I did initially buy the guppies and told her I was a beginner, it would have been nice to know that they were female and male, and that in only a month I would have triple the fish I had initially bought and a quickly over stocked tank!

Cracking shop, some very rare and unusual species stocked, hadn't seen a blue eyed plec in 25 years! And the staff are certainly full of character and knowledge! Will spend a lot more time in there when I next visit from Brighton.

The shop front is small but the store is large inside and well stocked. They have a great range of healthy tropical fish, sand, gravel, stone, wood, filters, heaters and aquariums (upstairs), live fish food such as daphnia, brine shrimp and blood worm. They stock frogs, crabs, lobsters and some even some rare species. I come here often. I have been using this shop for about 10 years. The staff are knowledgeable. Make sure you support the few remaining fish stores by buying from them.

  • 5/5 Caroline T. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely love this aquatic store! I have been visiting on and off for the pass 10 years, love always seeing the familiar faces for staff there. They store a large and some unique stock in fish. If I can give this store more stars I would! I get all my shrimp and fish from here, will be visiting soon to pick up more food soon! Also seeing some other people’s reviews here of fish dying when they get home… once the fish leaves the fish shop it’s your responsibility for them. Absolutely hate people blaming the fish shop with bad reviews for fish dying a few days after living in their tank.

  • 5/5 SAVBAN D. 2 years ago on Google
First visit to the shop . Very helpful honest knowledge owners. Excellent variety of fish/ plants & accessories. Will definitely be visiting again - happy to travel to even though its not my local.
