We were only in town for the reptile expo and wanted to check out their reptile selection. This store has NO business selling reptiles or any animals for that matter. All of the snake enclosures were overfull of multiple excretions and had almost no water. Most of them were going through VERY bad sheds. The other animals all looked sickly and malnourished and were also in cages with their own feces. The employees were unable to answer basic questions about the reptiles and were hard to find. As someone who frequents pet stores everywhere I travel, I can honestly say this is one of the worst I have seen.

My boyfriend and I stopped in today to check the place out. I had been a few times as a kid but now that I’m old enough to actually see what happens in this place, I’m absolutely disgusted. The smell alone was a huge red flag. Of course, animals don’t always smell the best, but the smell of death radiated through the entire store. Upon entry we were greeted by puppies running around the store. A few of them looked notably sick. The fish tanks were in putrid conditions and many of the small animals were either pregnant, sick or dead. The living conditions of the snakes in the back was absolutely horrifying. It seemed as though most of the workers didn’t actually know how to care for most of the animals in the shop. Please don’t support this place. Sandy’s Pet Shop is a much better place to go!

They have a giant reticulated python in the most saddening enclosure I’ve seen a reticulated python in. She has no space to move. I asked the woman for a thermostat for my snake and she handed me a thermometer. Didn’t know what a thermostat was. How can you not know that when you sell so many snakes? It smells awful, yes it’s a pet shop, but I’ve never been to another pet shop that smells this bad.

Worst pet store I have ever been to by far. Been going for over a year because they are close but I have problems every time. The customer service is the worst I ever seen(I've worked in retail in management too) you will stand at the counter an they will just walk right past you leaving you standing around for 5 to 15 min. They almost never great you at entrance. They are usually very rude and sell cut rate products for an inflated rate. They will sell you pets that have diseases and have told me first had that they don't take any of them to the vet. They have told me wrong information about reptile care. They don't accept any returns on care products either. The lack of empathy they show twords animals and customers is are simply appalling. They are very shady and feals like there is something strange going on there. They only feed at night so the animals are hungry and active when people come in. Clawing at the glass for food so when a customer who comes in thinks they like them and that's why they are scratching the glass.

Firstly, this review is based on 1 single visit. I normally wouldn't review a place after 1 visit but I felt compelled to do so for the birds in their care. All other animals that I witnessed were cared for in what I would deem an acceptable fashion(clean, fed, small animals had hides, water bowls were dirty but full). The bird conditions were sad. All birds were low on or out of food, there were no toys, different size perches or ways for a bird to climb around the enclosure. I take pet shop conditions seriously because customers could lead by example. I feel that someone could potentially take home a bird & think that this is an acceptable way to house & care for them. I did award 2 stars for the fact that enclosures were relatively clean & the staff was friendly. This place can do better. I was there picking up something with a friend. I would never spend money there based on what I witnessed here.

I feel so bad for the animals at this pet store. The store is smelly and way too hot to be keeping chinchillas in. They were keeping an older male (white) and young female (gray) chinchilla together in the a small cage and the male was biting the other chinchilla and pulling her fur out. You can see the bald spot in the picture. I wanted to rescue this chinchilla so bad but it most likely has health issues due to the poor conditions it’s kept in. They also did not have a water bottle, only a bowl, which is very bad for chinchillas because if they get their fur wet it can mold and kill them.

And get at better price. Pet Palace conditions are HORRIBLE, Soon as you enter it has a nose twisting smell. Just a sad place to be call a pet store😡

Poor conditions. They have a ton of products for sale and some good ones but the conditions of the pets are poor. Chickens in a cage they can’t move in, dog clearly has pink eye, cat looks unhealthy, ferret has nothing but towel. Etc…. Hope they change this soon or shut down .

Not sure why anyone would keep a pet store open if they didn't care to/didn't have the means to actually care for the pets. The environment is gross and TERRIBLE for animals as well as children. Please don't support this. There are other local pet stores in Louisville to support that do care for animals and provide great, safe environments for all.

Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to buy a new pet. Went in to check out some of the lizards and left with a baby Savannah Monitor and two Dwarf Hamsters. Huge selection of exotic animals and fish. They have all the supplies you'd need and very knowledgeable workers. They were willing and able to answer all of the questions we had about any of their animals. I disagree with the other reviews saying everything is overpriced. The animals there were VERY cheap and reasonably priced. I saw no bad conditions for any of their animals and everything looked very well cared for. Our new pets are super active and are perfectly healthy.

I have shopped here for years but was totally shocked to find the rats I just purchased were so poorly taken care of. The next day after purchase I noticed one wasn’t acting right. I took them to get one had pneumonia the other two had upper respiratory infections and all had parasites . My vet bill over 400 the first time. I took him to vet two more times within the month before he passed away. We fought so hard for his life. Do not purchase animals here. The owner is a nice guy and maybe he doesn’t know the situation, he seemed to care about animals at one time. What I tell you is true. These diseases the rats carry were totally preventable.

The store was very dirty and some of the animals were obviously sick. Edit: To elaborate on how dirty the place was, my partner and I refused to step in our home afterwards without bleaching our shoes and washing our hands because we didn't want to get our pets sick.

Pets palace has a good variety of pet supplies and a relatively decent variety of exotic fish. Their reptile department is honestly really sad (last couple times I was there). The snake, lizards, and geckos are constantly overheated, trying to cool off in their water bowls and pressing up against the glass. The flooring of the reptile enclosures are breaking down, some even splintering with dry mulch as bedding. Some didn't even have any hides. Don't go here for reptiles.

This was by far the worst pet store I've ever visited. They are unabashedly milling kittens, puppies, rodents, and reptiles in very poor conditions. Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by Siamese kittens of three different ages (presumably from the same nursing mother caged at the front and male caged at the back of the store), all of whom were covered in sores and had visible parasites. The lone puppy caged alone at the back of the store was ill and coughing between cries, as were several of the hamsters in another part of the store. Nearly all of the cages were filthy and overcrowded with adult animals (a clear sign that many people have the sense not to purchase from there). The main reason for our visit was the fish, which weren't in conditions any better. While most tanks had clear water, at least, many had visibly ill fish and more than a handful had the lids fallen in and no one had bothered to retrieve them. The fish all seemed quite hungry as well, following us desperately as we walked by. Needless to say, we absolutely won't be back. Don't support people who abuse and neglect animals for money, visit Sandy's or Greentree instead.

Place is a older establishment and it shows but that is not a bad thing lots of things to pick from and a solid place to get your fishy friends. Was in the market for a Discus they didn't have a large selection but the few they had were all beautiful and healthy the one I brought home has made himself right at home and is palling around with all the others in the tank now

It's jam packed with pets to purchase. From fish to reptiles to puppies and kittens. We bought a gecko ("dottie") and are very happy with it. The store is just a little overwhelming how it's set up but they do have everything you need.

Probably the best place to go for pets and pets' needs. Ever since our first visit, we've been going no where else. They breed their own mice and rats, so whichever size pet or snake feed you need is almost always there, they have a great variety of fish, reptiles, and usually bunnies and guinea pigs, as well as a rotation of dogs and cats, and ferrets. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, as well as knowledgeable about their animals and fish. 100% recommend for pet owners.

We drove to Louisville to check out their fish, I had been there many years ago. It has gone way down hill, the smell was awful and the massive amount of junk was scattered all over the floor, I had to change my hoodie because the smell was stuck on my clothes after 5 minutes of being in the store. Really sad to see that place has gone so far down hill, definitely won’t be back.

This place is horrifying, it should be shut down for animal cruelty. I cannot understand how it has so many five star reviews unless it's a scam! It smelled like death in here, there were flies everywhere and the animals were all horribly crowded. There were 14 adult hamsters in one cage with nowhere to hide/burrow, and they were all desperately trying to escape, clawing at the glass. There were birds chewing at the cage bars and frantically chirping. The fish tanks were absolutely filthy and I am sure I saw a few dead fish in the 10 minutes I was in here. They are being reported to the health dept but I am not sure that will do anything. Please do not patronize this place - even the big chains like PetCo and Feeders Supply treat animals more humanely.

Just left Pet's Palace and the lady was so nice and helpful. She answered all my questions and helped me get all the supplies needed for my bearded dragon. The prices are better than feeders supply. I will definitely be going back.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to this unique pet store. It has a different vibe than most pet stores, with lots of character and friendly staff. We especially liked the beautiful house cat that greeted us at the entrance. Great variety of fish and reptiles, which are their main specialties.

Went in to look around and all the associates working were super polite. The animals all looked extremely healthy especially the lizards which if you frequent pet shops you know isn’t common around here. Will definitely be back.

I have been going here since I was 4 yrs old, and so have known Jay (& Tony) through their work all these years. I currently have 2 healthy, sassy male Siamese cats from them ( 4 y.o. and 1.5 y.o.). It takes a lot to run a store like this, but when it's a quiet time those who have been there for years will take time to explain what the various animals there need to stay healthy at your home.

We had a great experience purchasing a rabbit from here. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. My wife used to come in here with her dad when she was a child to look at the fish. It was a great atmosphere and our visit was a bit nostalgic for her. The prices are reasonable as well. Thank you for the good experience.

Walked in to overwhelming smell of ammonia. Some fish tanks clean and some full of floating detritis. Found a dead fish laying on outside top of aquarium. Had been there a while. Go to Sandy's on Poplar Level Road.
