The park is wonderful. Even though the water is really low I still had plenty of fun. The restrooms are clean, clear instructions on how to get to places, no trash laying on ground. The only problem had was with Google Maps trying to take us through roads that where labeled private or closed. Took me a little bit to figure out how to get the entrance I was looking for.

I love the high desert & this reservoir can be a fun one. Unfortunately everyone else thinks the same & during summer months you can't find a spot to put up an easy-up because it is that packed with people. This is not a getaway; it's a bit more of a 'party with the other thousand people who showed up' kinda place. You can camp & fish, but don't dare keep any fish to eat as you'll be poisoned by the high heavy metal content from a hundred and fifty years of Virginia City mining runoff. If you camp, be prepared to listen to late night domestic drunken fighting, which can be fun if you like to place bets on MMA! Prone to poisonous warm-water algae blooms also, this lake is one you'll need to be careful about letting pets near.

We live in Reno and just got a boat this year for the summer. Went to Tahoe a few times, but the drive takes a while and climbing the hills into the mountain with a 24' cuddy cabin can be brutal on gas and your transmission. Tahoe is beautiful, but the water is SO cold! Lahontan offers a closer alternative for boaters and campers. It's a desert-terrain campsite, so don't expect pine trees and bear lockers. Think sand and sagebrush. It's about 45-50 min from Reno and the water is considerably warmer than the snow melt of the Alpine lake. The open campsites are great: find a spot on the beach and it's yours. There are even a few spots in the lake that are deep enough at the shoreline to allow you to pull your boat right up to your campsite. Vault toilets are located around the perimeter of the lake and indicate beach numbers and there are showers on the Northern beaches (odd numbers). And now for the bad: to say the lake gets windy is a HUGE understatement. We tent camp and almost got blown away on day 2. The water becomes choppy and it's not fun for anyone when the sand is blowing in your face. The water in the lake is, well, brown. Mud swirls and (I'm guessing) a lack of adequate fresh water exchange keep this body of water pretty murky. Definitely not the crystal clear lake that is Lake Tahoe. And fisherman, have fun catching fish, but you CANNOT eat your catch. The fish (a la warning signs) contain Mercury and should not be eaten, unless you're into birth defects and neurological conditions. And the boat launch for V-bottom boats can be rough to load back onto the trailer. You have to have some mad skills and really good guide rails. Otherwise, you're getting blown sideways off the trailer in the loading dock. So, for a weekend get away to dunk your boat that's less than 1 hour from Reno, Lahontan is fine. But I'm not looking to invest in property in Silver Springs, that's for sure!

14 day camping limit. Flush toilets at the developed campground. There are 2 showers up by the horse corrals. There are a few water faucets around. The day use is really nice, even has a stage. There are flush toilets in the day use area, there is also a boat ramp next to day use. We enjoyed the developed campground even with some of the more interesting campers.

First time I've been to Lahontan in years. Reservoir is pretty dry and some good soft trails to take my jeep out on. Some good water spots to get muddy in too.

We camped in the campground on the west side of the lake and just had the best time. Go during the week thru summer and have the place to yourself. Nice sites, but you can also shoreline camp. Camping prices are super affordable and although there are only two showers, they were free.

Even though you have to pay to get into the lake, it's still very cheap and fun if you're from nevada. If you're not, well, it's more expensive but worth it for the time.

I always have a great time. People complain about no shade well guess what you are in a desert. THE FISH IS OK TO EAT. there is not enough mercury in the fish to make you sick or even have any effect. People are always nice and outgoing and will help you if you get stuck. Remember this is a desert so 4x4 is recommended since it is mainly sand NO PAVED ROADS ON BEACH. The water level will get low since farmers do use it to water crops. Don't like it go somewhere else. We have to water our crops somehow.

The reservoir is super full this year making it nice not having to walk all the way down the beach to get to the water. Water temp is cool but comfortable. We use the th day beach on the Fallon side and never have a problem finding an area near the water. Would recommend bringing a canopy or umbrella as there isn't much shade.

This is the first time I have seen it full, it is stunning. During drought it was almost empty and mostly deep sand. Has wooded shores and dry camping around most of it. A couple of formal campgrounds with level pads, tables and nice grills, but no hookups. Most sites are shaded. Have nice flush toilets and central water spigots. Going to bring my trailer out in next few weeks. Not crowded during week, would not go on weekends or holidays due to boat noise. Great if you own a boat or jet ski. Lots of fisherman around lake too.

We picked this location because they advertised showers(beach 7 developed campsite). The only "shower" available was an outside rinseoff style shower (no walls) and it was not working. This is the first time I have been disappointed with Nevada state parks.

Been twenty years since I was here it's greatly improved. More bathrooms showers now dump stations and better access to areas.. Great job.

The Fallon side is in a lot better shape than previous years. An updated pay station is handy, I don't always have cash on hand so the card option is nice. Sure wish less people sucked and don't litter the beaches so much.

Wide open spaces and sandy beaches. This popular state park has a good variety of activity options, well-maintained boat ramps, somewhat shady picnic areas, and well-spaced campsites. Basic supplies are just a few miles away in Silver Springs.

This is a beautiful lake in Silver Springs Nevada. If you like camping on the beach in your Rv or you'd rather be in a campsite, this is a nice spot. This winter has brought a lot of weather, the lake should be really nice this spring and summer...

I always love Lahontan. Lots of water but still plenty of beach to park. Not too many bugs.

Nice State Park but we visited it back in september 2022 and all the water was gone. No more lake at this time...

Water level vary by season. When up its great . Camping is allowed at water edge, but sand is soft in places, be aware. The improved camp ground has flush toilets & showers.

A Nevada state park in need of a helping hand. Camped at Beach 7, no fire pit, picnic table barely sticking out of the sand, but bathrooms were adequate. A lot of dispersed camping along the shoreline but that prevents a casual walk along the shoreline by someone not camping "on the beach". Overall it was adequate for an overnight stay.

Lahontan State Recreational Area is quite nice. I was hugely impressed that there is real sand here! There are many picnic tables and camping here. We came for only an hour or two but after experiencing it; I'd say we will come back here to camp. There are a lot of shade trees close to the beach. We will return here!

Other than planning my family vacation in the beginning of a toxic algae bloom it was fantastic we stayed at the north shore marina. The guy whi does the boat inspections was super cool and helpful! Him and his nice guy in the dow truck pulling the pressure washer I appreciate y'all! Thanks for the laughs Saturday morning! We did fish a little, I got 3 bullhead fishing worms of the bottom. Hindsight I should have went to the dam! Gets a little windy in the afternoon so pick your spot wisely

Showers. They have showers. I was so happy to find this out. The showers could fit probably a good 4 people in it for reference of space. There bathrooms are clean with normal toilets and have sinks. (Bring your own soap they don't have any). Love this lake so much and had some fun memories there that I'll never forget

A wonderful place. I camped on the beach with my RV for 6 nights, even though only planned 2. Firm sand posed no problem. Egrets and Herons outside my door. $20 night for out of staters. I saw people complained about bugs and I usually think no big deal. But ... There are a lot of bugs. Have to keep screen door shut. Leave open for 30 minutes and you will have to spray fly and bug killer. Nothing bit me though. I entered Fir street, headed north to Beach 7.

So much is offered by nature. So much is then from by the humans. I didn't take a pic of the trash, just the positive we left in the negative space. We didn't care about cleaning it up, we care that others would care more. And my new metal detector is amazing. Found so much stuff.

Wonderful place to camp with an RV. They have developed paved RV sites with tables and fire pits, but I preferred to camp on the hard packed sand beaches. Egrets and Herons and Wild Horses outside my door. 20 bucks for out of staters, $15 for residents. Good paved roads and dirt roads. I entered from Fir Street , thru the self pay station, and parked on what they call beach 5. No beach fires allowed though. Free dump, water, and dumpsters for paid campers where I entered. Came for 2 days, started a weekπŸ˜„.

Awesome lake of you want to cool off and avoid the crowds! Great fishing, but it's catch and release due to the mercury content in the water... Pictures are from beach 5.

😐 Dayton State Park is a lovely little park with a historic background surrounding silver mining in the area. There are only 10 campsites and until Covid-19 hit, you could almost always find a spot. That’s no guarantee now but I suspect visitation will subside over winter with no hookups at the park....
