The tower is under construction until spring 2024. If, ahead of the visit, I'd realised that the scaffolding obstructed the view so badly I would have avoided going all the way up the 460+ stairs it takes to get up to the top and came back when it was all removed. Would have rated 5 stars otherwise. That being said, the guide was great, very knowledgeable and gave the tour in both English and Dutch. It was great being in the bell tower and being up close to them. The stairs on the way up get progressively narrow and claustrophobic on way up and can be exhausting so do bear that in mind too before going up.

It takes an hour to walk top to bottom. The walk up is broken up into stages of 3 or four stops. The guides are very informative and open to questions. It was in Dutch and English on our trip up. The tower is covered in scaffolding due to restoration work that in due to finish sometime in 2024. Still worth it. 12.50€ per person.

Nowadays, the church is being renovated but a beautiful and interesting place. I recommend 🤗.

The landmark of Utrecht! Can’t wait for the maintenance to be completed in 2024 and for the scaffolding to be removed. Still a beautiful site though and a great climb to the top.

If you’re visiting Utrecht, a must do!! Not too expensive and a tour guide as well. Lots of steps up & down, but we’ll worth it. Highly recommended….

I visited Dom Tower on a Friday afternoon and took the guided tour of the tower. The tour involves climbing up ~460 stairs to reach the top of the tower along with a tour guide and we stop at 4 stages inside the tower. The stairs get narrower as we climb up and it can feel claustrophobic but the view of the city from the top of the tower is breathtaking! It is an amazing experience to see the giant bells of the tower from close quarters. Kudos to the guide for being so well informed; she gave the tour in both English and Dutch and had the answers to all the questions from the group about the history of the tower. The only con is that the tower is undergoing restoration work till 2024 so the entire tower is obstructed by scaffolding.

A must visit when you explore Utrecht. Even with the construction which prevent you from going all the way to the top, its worth it. Beware, you will have to climb up the stairs which could be quite challenging and it one of the most fun tour I’ve gotten. You feel feel accomplished by having climbed the tower. Also, not expensive and quite the experience!

Utrecht trip is not complete without visiting the tallest church tower in the Netherlands. Even though the work in continuing, it is possible to go to the top of the tower. The panoramic view of Utrecht from there is marvelous. Be ready to walk 450+ steps!! The tourist information service and the guides are doing an excellent job, they explain the history and the details so well. Hats off to them !!

Had a really nice tour guide show us all the way up the tower - almost 500 steps! From the top of the 112m tall tower you have an excellent view of the city. Make sure to come early so that slots for tours are still available.

Almost 500 steps up!! very interesting listening to all the history about the place, but the view would be alot better when the tower is not under reconstruction

Climbed it on the 1st of July. First day it reopened after some time. It was my 4th or 5th time that I climbed it. It’s always a nice experience climbing the stairs of the tower and the explanation that the guide gives on the three different levels where you have a short break before reaching the top. But at the end the main attraction is the view from the top. With the construction still going on the view is limited. Be aware of that! But if your main goal is to learn about the history, see it from the inside and having the experience of climbing to the top then you will not be disappointed.

It was a nice tour with a experienced guide. Unfortunately the dom tower was under reconstruction, so we didn't had a clear view.

Tower is under construction, so the view on the top is terrible. Stairs to the top are very narrow and claustrophobic. The tickets should have been discounted, since the view is very limited.

Beautiful tower in the heart of the city with a nice history and area to climb up for a nice view. Also, wonderful stone work, stained glass, and a beautiful large organ.

Must see Fabulous 360 degrees once you're on top. It might be still in scaffolding, please check ahead of time Tower and church are ca. 1000 years old Walk up and down the ancient stairs Learn about the bells and music

I came to Utrecht for one day and my first stop was to the Dom Tower. They told us, people always say that the tower is under construction, which he was, but still an important and historic place that you should visit. But be prepared, there are a lot of ancient stairs to climb 😅

Tour guide was great at explaining the history of the tower. Do keep in mind that the view at the top was disappointing due to the current scaffolding (which is only coming down in 2024) if you plan on visiting soon.

Very interesting. Got to ring the bell! Recommend. Wear comfy shoes, you'll be climbing lots of narrow stairs

A great guided tour brings you to the very top of this landmark. Unfortunately it was rainy and foggy so the spectacular view was limited. 465 steps, no elevator. Not for the faint-hearted.

Cool tour with a solid view at the end. The tour guide himself - Chris, was incredible; one of the best tour guides I've had. He had a tall task because he had to do the entire tour in both English and Dutch so it did feel a bit rushed, but overall I had a great experience. Keep in mind the staircases are quite steep and narrow so if you're American sized, I'd recommend something else.

Little disappointed with this. Pre booked tickets and couldn't find the entrance. You have to go to the tourist information centre to get tickets scanned. Also the tower it's self has been under restoration for some time this was not mentioned when tickets were booked. Inside the tower was very interesting. Worth seeing be aware restoration still going on.

Generally, worth to visit. The guided walking tour costs EUR 12.5, which is a fair price in my perspective. The tour takes one hour and you will walk all 465 steps to the top. Good thing, you will not walk all steps at once but have two breaks inbetween where general facts about the cathedral are told by the guide. That made the tour both relaxed and interesting. The view from the top was quite impressive. On good non-cloudy days, you can see Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam. Unfortunately, the view is currently a bit blocked because of the scaffolding, which did not allow to make good photos.

We choose the 1h tour through the stairs. Very nice and very aggressive to the legs if you don’t go to the gym regularly 😂 The tour guide was very nice and friendly! It was a very interesting tour , I recommend it.

We had a great time climbing the dom tower, the view was amazing and the guide was super nice. He did the tour in Dutch and english. We weren't allowed to take bags which is weird, so we had to get a locker.

Very well preserved medieval construction, with a nice view of Utrecht. Might be difficult to reach the top if you are not used to make exercises.

Fascinating place, I enjoyed the history behind it. The views were spectacular. Tour was basic, straight to the point in the details about the tower. Tour guide spoke in Dutch first and then English but after the English explanation, we were hurried in to the next section. We were unable to look around - especially the bell section with the information about each bell.

If ever visited Utrecht , don’t miss the place! It’s really worth to discover. Ticket costed 10 Euro with a guide!

Lots of stairs and lits of bells. Definitely worth it if you enjoy history and amazing views. The tour takes about an hour up and down. Definitely not for those afriad of heights or claustrophobic as the hallways are quite narrow. Definitely worth doing once while in the city. Can see all the way to Amsterdam from the top.

Fascinating tour through the interior chapels, bell arrangements and narrow stairwells that ends with awesome views of Utrecht and the surrounding area from the top. Even though the Dom Tower was covered in scaffolding due to ongoing renovations, it was still worth the admission ticket for the tour. Be prepared to walk up and down a lot of steps!

We booked the guided tour up on the dome. It was quite exhausting (although we made like five stops) but we were rewarded with an excellent view over Utrecht on a beautiful summer day! 👌🏻

  • 5/5 Deborah L. 4 years ago on Google
Took the tour and went up 380 stairs stopping in different rooms on the way. Because the tower is closed all the way on the top, they compensate by showing you the bells. The tour tells you a lot of the history and story of the tower and town. I really enjoyed it.

Good tour, enough stairs to climb. Nice views looking down on Utrecht city cener.

Very interesting raw interior. Due to the fact that part of the central nave was destroyed, the layout is not typical. Worth a visit.
