Petaling Street Market is a covered market in the China Town area of Kuala Lumpur near to other major attractions such as KL Central Market and the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. Since 2003 Petaling Street has developed into a colourful tourist oriented shopping area, with shops and stalls selling mostly, clothes, bags, watches and souvenirs. The market itself consists of a single main street with two side streets, where vendors sell mostly cooked food, fruit and vegetables. This is a market where there are no real fixed prices and everything must be bargained for. Foreign tourists will generally be asked for twice the amount which the vendor would be prepared to accept for a product, sometimes more. There are other places in Kuala Lumpur where you can get the same the thing for a lower price, but these cheaper markets and shops are located in areas far from the main tourist centre. Petaling Street Market is similar to Patpong Night Market in Bangkok in that a range of branded items, which appear not to be perfect quality, are sold for prices less than those normally charged by shops selling real versions of the same product. The likelihood is that they are fakes or imitations. Petaling Street Market is famous for these items, and they are the reason may people choose to come here. Trainers, T-Shirts and watches seem to be the most popular items, although you can also find jeans, dresses, sun glasses, baseball caps and DVDs here are well. The quality varies and as a general rule the better items are hidden away in the ‘factory stores’ off the main shopping street.

If you come for food, please come around 9am. But if you wang to but cloths and other stuff, please come at 11am onwards. This place is quite spacious but in the morning car and motorcycle still pass this road so beware of the traffic. As i walk pass 1 stall, there's 1 chinese aunty telling 1 guys (i guess he's not local) to be extra vigilant of bad people. So.... I guess beware of scam? I don't know what kind of scam exactly but you can look it up on google.

    - Found this cool gift shop No. 28 the end of Petaling Street, perfect for grabbing stuff for our international buddies / souvenirs. - They're open in the evening and at night, making it easy to swing by whenever. - Love that they light up the place, showing off prices clearly, and it's way cheaper than other spots. - Hate those stores that don't display prices – like, come on, don't want any surprise costs, right? 😂 - Did a little shopping spree and this place had the best deals. Got nail clipper keychains, 5-6 for RM 13-16; elsewhere, it's like RM 24, no thanks. - Picked up a tote bag with an embroidered design for just RM 10. Other places were asking around RM 15 for a plain one. Total win! - The tote bag has a zip, a little pocket, and a plastic lining – rain ain't ruining my stuff. - It's fun seeing people rocking Malaysia-themed tote bags. Malaysia Truly Asia, you know? - Tons of T-shirt options, different designs, and sizes – makes shopping way more interesting. 🛍️

Cheap and good items. Mostly first copies. Bargaining at its peak. 50 % discount is easy to get. You can buy there ladies purses , gents wallet, luggage bags and backpacks at reasonable prices. Also there are drinks counters that offers refreshing drinks and fresh cold pressed juices. You can book taxi for petaling street market main entrance. Some shopkeepers are aggressive and if you bargain and not purchasing, they will do hot talks. So please bargain for those items only that you wanna really buy..

Recommendation first: before you start buying anything, just walk up and down the street and ask random sellers for price. So you get a feeling. It's a great market with many products. But be careful. They offer many fake products of high cost brands, especially bags, shoes or parfume. If you want to buy something, never ever pay the proposed price. start bargain very low. usually it's very easy to get the product for almost half the original price. Always remember, if you get a price you are satisfied and the seller accepts. then be happy and stop comparing with other sellers ;) Shopping here is fun :)

If you like crowds, bargaining, and the heat, this is the market to be at. I found the products for sale to be overpriced. We were only willing to pay maximum 60% of the original asking price. You can get better deals in the suburban malls. That being said we found a couple stores in a hidden aisle parallel to the main street with reasonable set prices in an air-conditioned environment. A highlight was watching 2 senior men sing America classic songs with enthusiasm. They deservedly received generous tips for their effort.

No tourist should miss out on the Petaling street market. It is where mist people buy their fakes brand bags, watches, jewellery and great food and snacks. Friendly and crowded, relatively clean and safe but do watch out with valuables just in case as you are in busy crowds.

Must-visit when you're in Kuala Lumpur! 🛍️🌆 It's a vibrant and bustling market filled with a wide variety of goods, from clothes and accessories to street food and souvenirs. You can find some great bargains here, but remember to haggle for the best prices! 😄👛 The atmosphere is lively and energetic, with street performers and vendors calling out to attract customers. It's a fantastic place to immerse yourself in the local culture and experience the vibrant street life of Kuala Lumpur. Don't forget to try some delicious street food while you're there! 🍜🌭🍡 Overall, I highly recommend checking out Petaling Street Market for a fun and unique shopping experience! 🎉🛍️

Food is the most exciting here, secondly is watching the different crowd of people passing by, as many are not local, they could come as far as Norway or Slovakia. We met some Japanese and had a good chat learning from them about their country and their outlook of life. The spirit here is easy and casual. No worries even if they tout for business, it adds to the atmosphere. I always smile and joke with them, be humble, firm and happy. Try any food you fancy, you will not regret.

Recently visited Chinatown, sadly not the same as before and not many stalls open yet. Every entrance, they guard and SOP followed....we need to temperature check, register and scan. I feel this is the best times for M'sian to visit when there isn't crowded with people and tourists. So many faked items throw out on sale especially those faked branded bags. Even, I can't resist and bought a few t-shirts.😊😊😊 Astonish! Seeing so many designer branded face-masks selling cheap in Chinatown now. ( Hints:- Don't go on weekends or evening when more people shopping, prices hike-up. Go weekdays afternoon is good times where you don't have to bargain) My face-masks only Rm$5 instead of Rm$10 😄👍 Now, got so many hyped restaurants opening near Jalan Balai, should come to visit and see.

The Chinatown in KL is no exception like the rest of it scattered around the globe. Perhaps the absence of a fine traditional Chinese restaurant is quite obvious although numerous standalone stalls and shops selling a variety of foods and beverages are readily available. It is a popular rendezvous for both locals and tourists to congregate either to walk about or shop at many of its quaint standalone stalls selling items ranging from shoes, clothings, souvenirs, accessories and foods such as the famous Sie Ngan Chai roast duck, Saigon beef mee, old lady's crushed fine peanut laced 'jelly (machi)', ice longan drink etc. Its festive ambience and people friendly environment with a high transparent roof to shutout the rain and excessive sun ray makes it a popular spot to hang out and watch the world in motion with the chatters and hustle and bustle all around.

Great fun place to spend full day looking at different, cheap, seconds, copied brands of most of the things including ladies purses 👜 👛 man purses, watches, 🖊️ pens, clothing, perfume, accessories so in and so on … lot of bargaining but at the end a fun and enjoyable place to go … market is CASH only so carry lot of cash with you. You are definitely coming with something to your home. Not much parking around but you can find one.

Some of the traditional food stalls are no longer around. We tried the roast duck, rice dumpling and sweet Chinese pancake. Would suggest finding these traditional food to try at this market and skip all the other stalls selling touristy stuff.

Great "original copy" market. Some stall holders get in your face a bit but most were polite when you said "just looking thanks". We bought some good stuff, drank some nice stuff, ate stuff too. Lots of watches, shoes, shirts, sunglasses and tourist trinkets. Fun place to spend an hour or so

Good place to come shopping for cheap products, to be honest i lived in China and this street is way cheaper than the fake markets in China lol. You can also get deals on gift items such as clothing bags etc. I like the apparel here and its more cheaper than other countries; clothes are at 15MYR or 2 for 20MYR which is impressive. Vendors don't hassle you so i really like this place as its more civilized than other markets in other countries.

Smells really horrible, extremely dirty, fake items, and a whole different feeling to Malaysia as we have experienced over the holidays. I suggest you visit only if you are interested in getting the feel of china town. Don't walk to it from Bintang as it is not safe. As the nake indicates, this is a flea market.

This street is like Chinatown of the city that you can find cheap clothing and shoes and souvenir. In addition, in the middle of the street you can also find some counters selling tropical fruit, coconut and grilled chestnut, I recommend you to try them. They are cheap and tasty.

Petaling Street Market No 55 & 57(Jalan Petaling Street Chinatown) Market in Kuala Lumpur I only visited the market a few times and braved the bustling chaos of a market that was always buzzing with activity. It was a whirlwind of stalls, each vying for attention with similar products. Safety was a concern as I navigated through the crowds of people, some a little too eager to make a sale. Despite the chaos, I've always had a soft spot for markets; this one was no exception. When hunger struck, the street nearby offered many delicious food options. Snacks were conveniently scattered among the stalls, creating a delightful maze of culinary temptations amidst the sea of clothing, bags, and shoes. I have been to a lot of markets, and find the smaller markets a lot more fitting for my needs.

Good fun, haggling expected and all very well spirited and tourist friendly. Lots of good quality replica bags/clothes/watches etc especially if you ask specifically for best quality and they understand you mean ‘best’. If I was travelling alone I would prefer visiting the markets during the day as it’s a bit of a maze in the backstreets and easy to get lost, especially if you don’t have a good map or internet activity on your phone.

Those who love to window shopping and hate malls, you may want to go to Petaling Street. The place mostly full with stalls selling branded lifestyle wears from adult to children (cloths, shoes, bags, hats, accessories & many more) and the other stalls sell foods. However, the items are not original. So if you like buying cheap branded casual wears with variety of choices, Petaling Street is the place. On another note the place is crowded during holiday and very hot on sunny day.

Market with stalls full of counterfeit products at a good price and with the possibility of haggling, ideal for buying souvenirs. Beware that Chinese sellers have a code between them and if you are a good price bargainer they give you an orange bag, while if you are not they give you a fuchsia pink one. If you decide to visit this market, remember to also visit the nearby temples and walk around the area, it is worth it. Throughout the neighborhood you will find restaurants and street food stalls. An essential market on your trip to Kuala Lumpur.

This is kind of a flea market but here you find clothes and accessories that look just too close to the real thing. And at those prices, it's definitely a bargain considering you know how to haggle. Most of world's best known brands including top designers have their manufacturing sites in China and southeast Asia so sometimes you do get the defective but genuine product. I'm not sure about the quality and standard now but I've still got the shirt that I bought back in 2016.

Whether you are an international or local tourist, it would fun just walking and exploring along Petaling Street aka Chinatown. The shop houses here make up the pioneer township of 20th century Kuala Lumpur . So walking down the streets here is like walking down history lane . Due to c19, businesses here are affected so you would find the streets less crowded and a lot cleaner .

Have not been here for a long time as you will find lots of stalls selling almost the same stuff..counterfeit watches designer bags shoes etc. Decided to make a trip again and no surprise to see the same stalls as per normal but with a wider walkway this time due to restrictions. This made walking much easier and window shopping as well. Do try the various street food stalls along the way and alleys. There is a famous beancurd stall that's always having a long queue that's a worth a shout out. A nice place overall for window shopping and worth a visit from late afternoons to evenings.

Super busy outdoor market. The top is covered to protect shoppers from the unexpected rain showers that come and pass quickly and without warning. Come ready to haggle. You can buy high quality goods here for a great price if you are good at negotiating! If not, expect to pay too much.

Cool place to haggle the hawkers and by really great imitation and seconds imported from Thailand, China, Vietnam and Korea. Quality of goods overall are very good and for the prices you can haggle to they are good. Only one aggressive shop owner for the whole market but choose your targets when dealing with them and if you’re looking to shop hard then go first in the morning before they get tired and it heats up. Food is great just a street over for meals, there’s snacks spread out all through the market in amongst the clothing, bags, shoes, bags and bags. Very worthwhile coming here to find some nice trinkets or stock up on your sporting gear, bags, shoes and bags.

The market is very interesting for souvenirs purchase. Do not hesitate to negotiate. The ambiance is busy streets full of souvenirs shops and vendors calling you. At the corner of the criss cross streets , fruit juice vendor to try for sure. The lanterns and big Statues of lions give a Chinese vibe to this area.

Not easy parking. Always full at peak time especially weekends. Don’t parked simply where you like unless it is designated. The tow truck from the authority is very active around here. Take note that the Traffic Police office and building is just around the corner. Btw, the prices of many things are cheaper here comparing to the big malls. The old building along the street is pretty historical with details stone crafted probably from the British era and survived the Japanese invasion. If you are lucky you can find antiques here like the old blue Chinese porcelains plate and etcs. Well it’s a crowded place with lots of happening here. Please wear loose clothes and beware of pickpockets or snatch thief. Bring only the amount you want to spend. Put it in a safe pockets if you have too and don’t wear any jewelleries or bring your important documents along. Just to be sure than sorry. Other than that enjoy the hawkers food and have fun!

Great market for shopping local. You can find many things to choose from and take it with you to your home country as a Malaysia memory. You can find stuff for adults like bags clothes accessories and much more. You can even find things for children like toys stationery products or stuffed things. You can find Malaysia’s iconic key chains like tower magnets and small stuffs. One thing you should be care of while going to this market is to take care of your personal belongings like mobile camera and wallet. The other thing you should know before going here is to bargain. They ask very higher amounts of the products but then end up giving it at very less. You just need your bargain skills here to save loads of money. For example i was looking for side bags the shopkeeper was asking 150 for 1 bag but then I started bargaining and he came to 100 then 80 and at last we end up at 60. So you can go for shopping there but you need to be careful. One more thing you can enjoy their local street food as well but less or no vegetarian options i guess as I couldn’t find any. Being a vegetarian it was hard to find something to eat.

Amazing place, its a shopping street where you can buy some good but comparatively cheap souvenirs. In Evening time, whole street will be filled with small shops. You will get good food, cloths, gift and electronic shops there. But I recommend not to buy any electronic product from this market. Since almost all the electronic products there are copies/ not original one and you will get it on too cheap price but its not guarantied that they will work later. BTW, its all my experience, others might be lucky and get a good one. But its a really good to visit.

Visiting at night approx 830 to 930pm. Looks most shops are open. There's a main entrance that has heavier vehicle traffic. If you'd like to avoid the crowd, ask your transport to drop of off at one of the other enterances. Pro tip. Ask your driver to make a round around Petaling street market as there are shops / restaurant on the outside. Take your vehicle to scout around to save you from having to walk.

Place has changed quite a bit since we last visited. Packed with tourist and locals, its a wonder that this place still holds its rustic charm. Walls are adorned with nicely painted murals. The bustling market, alive with the hustle and bustle of traders and the scent of delectable street food, is a sensory adventure that captures the essence of this beautiful country. As a travel enthusiast, I couldn't help but be enchanted by the colorful displays, the eclectic mix of goods, and the rich tapestry of cultural diversity. From traditional handicrafts to trendy fashion, Petaling Street offers a treasure trove of experiences for shoppers and food lovers alike. The street food, a symphony of flavors from different Malaysian regions, is a highlight not to be missed. Petaling Street is not just a place to visit; it's an immersive journey through Malaysia's history, culture, and culinary traditions.

It's such a peaceful place to go to before the vendors open. Walking around was enjoyable. We bought some little trinkets, but there are tons of variety! We saw so much stuff. We were only there for 3 hours, but I want to return soon.

I have visited the place with my family. Nice place for budget shopping if you are looking for clothes and regular use items you can easily find here. The good thing is the place is nearby to the Central market just walking distance. If you have good bargaining skills this is the best place for you. Recommend to visit in evening time.

I was amazed from this street because we don’t have the same in our country. Although affordable prices with high quality brands. It’s crowded and that’s what attracts the tourists even china town is next to it, you can walk in the whole area to find new things like shopping, food and unique items Loved it🥹😍

Counterfeit products, crowded and really hot, but entertaining place. Here you can find all the luxury brands, but don't Imagine that you are buying genuine one or getting a receipt. Probably, for example, fake shoes are supplied by one and the same wholesaler, but they are sold by several sellers. You can get 50-75% off the price by haggling. This place has nothing to do with Chinatown etc.. How can you freely sell counterfeit products these days?

I only had an hour to explore the sights and smells from this huge market. Jewelry, luggage, shoes, watches, T-shirts, dresses, purses and much more. There are food stalls everywhere and I liked the fact that I had never heard of most of the dishes. Well worth a visit even if you're not buying.

A covered street market in the heart of KL with lots of stalls with haggling vendors (clothing, bags, accessories, etc.). There are lots of restaurants here with nice food as well from Grill Foil dishes, pastries to Seafood & cook to order restaurants. There are also a few Instagramable Cafes in the vicinity that you can easily walk to. Parking is extremely limited here however you can access this area easily to Public Transport.

Favourites shopping places among the tourists & locals too. You may find lots of international branded & famous items here such as the well-known đ from ROLEX! OMEGA! etc. U just named it! they're all here for you to grab!... selling it at unbelievable & unthinkable prices in Ringgit Malaysia! But BEWARE guys! As we know it.... nothing comes cheap for a luxurious & original branded items as the ROLEX watches!.. it may look identical up to 90% looks alike as the original one! but the truth were all this items are CRAPS & IMITATION products from China, Hong Kong & Locals too.

(Translated by Google) You want to have seen them, but after half an hour you can also look, take pictures and try muah chees. What I found much more interesting was the extremely ancient Chinese 中华 巷 酿 etwa Hawker Stall, which branches off from Petaling Street in the middle. You MUST find this Hawker stable; it is listed on Google Maps and I reviewed it. Sit on one of the stools and eat something, at least taste an ice cendol. Then you like to take a lot more time than the ½ hour. On this street there is everything that one expects from Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown on the biggest shopping street and tourist attraction: A lot of tourist kitsch and pushy traders, but also interesting, original Chinese gems like “Madam Tang Muah Chee”, s. own Google review. The range of shops is enormous: hotel, restaurant and bar businesses, hairdresser, French nails or beauty salon, book stores, tailors and fabric dealers, florists, household utensils, tool dealers, art dealers, etc. Petaling Street is one of the very first streets of Kuala Lumpur and dates back to the time when the place was founded on the Klang River due to its tin deposits.

Such a very busy street, open up from early morning till the night. Some restaurant open in the morning to serve a breakfast. After that some store, and street market will fill up this street. The peak crowd will be at night, so many people and tourist will be come here for shopping or get dinner. Just make sure to keep your belonging safe, because this one is very busy and crowded street, so there's be some bad person that can take advantage from this situation to steal precious things that you have

Visited many times before the shutdown, but most recently in Jan. This is one of the places I always visit whenever I’m in the city mainly for the great food and street vibe. Most of the food here is Chinese and my favourite kind of food. There’s street food, restaurant style food and since my last visit some of the eateries are quite trendy too. The street stalls are still here selling their questionable wares, but I guess for some people that’s part of the charm. If you love Chinese food, street food or just good food, Petaling Street is the one place you should visit in Kuala Lumpur.

Probably one of the most popular places in Kuala Lumpur after the Petronas Twin Towers and Batu Caves. Petaling Street has been known as one of the must-visit markets and after Covid19, its done a massive cleanup of vendors and foreign staff. A great flea market running along two intersecting streets, with lots of souvenir and bag stalls, as well as a selection of food stalls. There are also many shops located behind the stalls. The highlight is the variety of brand name purses, handbags and carry bags which the stallholders declare are genuine, and justifying the not-cheap prices.

Petaling Street is nominated as a ‘chinatown area’ in Kuala Lumpur. It’s a long street and there’s a lot of souvenirs, clothes, accessories seller in there. Also, there’s a lot of food like chinese food and chinese snack in here. I tried buy Mochi here, and the taste was so good. It’s not really sweet and theres a lot of peanut.

If you’ve been to one counterfeit market in Asia, you’ve been to all of them. Good place for cheap knock offs and souvenirs, but other than that there isn’t anything worth seeing. It is very fragrant and crowded. Worth seeing if you have never been to a similar market, but, it doesn’t differ much from other markets around.

  • 5/5 Reyna R W. 1 year ago on Google
It's a lively market, most of them sell imitation goods, the rest are souvenirs and food stall. I bought the well-known Air Mata Kucing in this market, it's a must if you never try it before. Surprisingly, funny taste. I also encountered Teddy plush from Mr. Bean a lot in here, in the end I bought it. Oh, don't forget to bargain the price.

There is a delicious and fresh fruit stand in the middle of Petaling street. I had to come back just for the fruit! They have some of the best mango’s I’ve ever had, kiwi, rose apple and many more. There are also plenty of food and shopping options. There’s a great bakery called happy meal, and a beautiful Chinese and Hindu temple nearby.

One of the best places to shop for clothes (especially if you need copies of football jerseys), bags, footwear etc. You should be good with your bargaining skills. Haven't been here for the past 9 years. A nice walk but everywhere is selling branded replica stuff. Literally almost every store is selling. Having lived in China for more than 3 years I thought that Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown would be a bit bigger and cleaner, knowing that there's a huge percentage of chinese people living in Malaysia. There's not a lot of food choice actually, almost all is clothes stores or closed restaurants. It could do with a bit more cleaning. Said that, there's also some nice spots for taking pictures.

I enjoyed my time here. It's very happening. Many things are going on, the soft tofu dessert is still delicious. I like going around here. Super pack after 5pm for the night market. Can see one of the tallest building from the Petaling Street.

Very busy , as they say.”The best fakes you can buy ! “ very humid . They sell everything.Quite confined spaces so watch out for pick pockets . Need to visit this market for the experience. Train station only a few minutes away . China town right by it .

If you want to experience shopping for imitation products, cheap souvenirs & savour KL street food, this is the place. Better to use public transport as parking is limited. Wear light clothings & drink more water as the weather is so humid. Bargaining for discount is highly recommended & just walked away if the stall promoter can't agree with your price. Its a willing seller & willing buyer game.

Petaling Street Market is one of the local markets for tourists. The design of the market is unique to Malaysia. Arrived at the market is about 10am but the shops have yet to fully open. The shops carry batik products, tourist souvenirs and some street food. There are other shops selling local pots and plates too. Lovely/traditional designs :) good walk

This is a must visit when in Kuala Lumpar! They have so much good quality purses, bags, clothes, jewelry.. all for great deals! I purchased a real leather hand bag there and it is amazing quality. The man who sold me the purse confirmed with holding a lighter with open flame to the purse so I knew it wasn’t faux leather, which was greatly appreciated. I would definitely return!

The market is a treasure trove for souvenir hunting, and bargaining is encouraged. The bustling streets are lined with souvenir shops and vendors vying for your attention. Don't miss the fruit juice vendor nestled in the crossroads; it's a must-try. With lanterns adorning the streets and majestic lion statues, the area exudes a distinct Chinese ambiance, adding to its charm.
