There was too much dog poop and not enough parking. Aside from this, the wildlife is absolutely amazing! The weather was good, even on a cloudy day. We had a lot of fun!

Malibu Lagoon is a fantastic destination for spending quality time with family, earning it a solid four-star rating. Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Malibu, this natural gem offers a serene and captivating setting that is ideal for creating lasting memories. The highlight of Malibu Lagoon is undoubtedly its stunning beach, which provides a welcoming playground for both children and adults. The soft sand and gentle waves set the stage for building sandcastles, playing beach games, or simply soaking up the sun. It's a delightful spot that will keep the whole family entertained. The lagoon itself is home to a diverse ecosystem, offering opportunities to discover various bird species and marine life. Exploring the wetlands and estuaries is an educational and eye-opening experience for children and adults alike, shedding light on the importance of preserving these precious natural environments. While Malibu Lagoon offers excellent facilities and amenities, it's worth noting that it can get quite crowded at times. The popularity of this destination means that it attracts a significant number of visitors, particularly during peak seasons or weekends. While this may detract slightly from the tranquility and serenity of the surroundings, it's still a testament to the allure of the location. Despite the occasional crowds, the tranquil atmosphere and scenic beauty of Malibu Lagoon remain intact, providing a sense of escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's a place where families can unwind, connect with nature, and appreciate the stunning beauty of Southern California's coastline. Additionally, Malibu Lagoon's proximity to other attractions in the area, such as the iconic Malibu Pier and nearby hiking trails, offers additional opportunities for exploration and adventure.

There is always a smell here but overall was great. Low tide made a great experience. Was able to see hermit crabs and sea urchins.

While the beach is nice, parking availability in the lot is absolutely horrible. And that’s why I give it 3 stars. They also give tickets after sunset. It’s on a small sign in front that had no light shining on it so it’s barely seen. Unfortunately I got got! 😩 but for out of towners like myself there should be better signage for people who aren’t used to these beach hours. But anyway go to the beach. Just know if you don’t park far away on the side of the road, you’re gonna have to wait a while for a parking spot, especially if it’s on a busy day and still have to walk around the lagoon to get to the beach (which feels like a half mile). It’s a hassle but still nice.

Small but cozy! It's very rocky under the water and not good for swimming far out. Surfers have an awesome time. I enjoyed the scenery and the pretty clear waters.

Malibu Lagoon State Beach is a diverse and picturesque coastal area in Southern California that offers a range of activities and attractions: Nature and Wildlife: The beach is surrounded by the Malibu Lagoon, a thriving estuary that serves as a habitat for numerous bird species and other wildlife. It's a popular spot for bird-watching and nature enthusiasts. Surfing: Malibu Lagoon State Beach is known for its iconic surf break known as "Surfrider Beach." It's a historic surf spot that attracts surfers of all levels, and it played a significant role in the development of modern surfing. Restaurants and Cafes: Nearby, you'll find a variety of dining options, from casual beachside eateries to upscale restaurants, offering a range of cuisines to satisfy your taste buds. Outdoor Activities: Apart from surfing, you can engage in other outdoor activities such as beach volleyball, paddleboarding, kayaking, and even fishing. Photography: The scenic beauty of the beach, lagoon, and the surrounding landscape makes it a favorite spot for photographers. Sunset and sunrise views are particularly captivating. Beach Activities: Enjoy classic beach activities like sunbathing, picnicking, beachcombing, and building sandcastles. Wildlife: The lagoon's diverse ecosystem supports various species of birds, including herons, egrets, and migratory shorebirds. Keep an eye out for sea lions and dolphins offshore as well. Local Nightlife: While the area is more known for its daytime activities, Malibu does offer some upscale lounges and beachside bars for a relaxed evening by the coast. Shipping and Boating: Malibu Lagoon historically served as a location for Chumash Native American settlements and later as a trading port. While the lagoon is no longer used for shipping, you can still see evidence of its historical significance. Malibu Lagoon State Beach provides a unique blend of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and historical significance, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a mix of outdoor activities and coastal relaxation.

Beautiful location. Very picturesque and a great spot for families. Parking is a bit of a pain, but once you're out on the trail and in the beach you realize it's worth it.

Nice to walk on the beach. Enjoy sunshine and ocean breeze. By the way, don’t miss Whole Foods nearby. The cleanest and prettiest I have ever seen in LA.

Beautiful beach with access to strollers but better without it. Great place to watch the sunset and enjoy the lovely sounds of the waves and the birds. There is parking in the place (not for free).

Quiet, calm, area to explore. Beach was very clean and lightly populated. A handful of paid parking available. Free street parking as well.

One of the prettiest beaches in Malibu surrounded with beautiful birds in the lagoon which is also an estuary and the people are so friendly the lifeguards are top-notch and there's a lot of people surfing just an overall super fun beach and beautiful as you can see!

Very clean considering our recent storms. It’s a great day trip to the lagoon and beach at the end of the trail. If you get bored there is the Malibu Creek Village across the street.

If you want to put yourself in a joyful while peaceful location, here it is. Malibu Lagoon beach facing ocean one side, and facing lagoon the other side, you get to experience the cool Pacific ocean and maybe surf a little bit, while you can meditate and chill a little bit looking at the lagoon and the mountain. Me and my family spent a quality afternoon here, from now on this is a place maked with out beautiful memories.

Took my little one on beach ⛱️ adventure! We wanted to discover a new spot. We got lucky finding a parking spot because it was crowded 🙃 The walk to the beach from parking lot is about 1/2 mile. Pack lightly or carry a wagon. Place has a great vibe and remember to clean after yourselves.

It’s a nice quiet beach (compare to other beaches in Malibu) but parking area is very small. The walk through the side of the lagoon toward the beach is very nice. The only downside is that it doesn’t have any shower or water spray to cleanup yourself, especially near parking area. No permanent restroom is also a big concern

The small island feeling is so good, sand surrounded by sea and you can stand in the middle, great walking area, lots of greens, good for the whole family

The weather was perfect. The water wasn't cold . My guy caught a some great waves on the surfboard. It was nice easy walk to the beach. Parking was a bit of a challenge but that's to be expected.

A very sandy beach with a good view. Would recommend visiting if you're in Malibu. There are plenty of parking spaces nearby! Wasn't busy when I visited on a Saturday. Good place to go for a walk.

We go to bird. Parking was full. People were there just for the beach, too. Birds were plentiful. Got to see terns, herons, snowy plover, and egrets.

What an absolute gem this place is! I love tide pools and this one has the best one I’ve been to (previously Point Loma in SD was my favorite). We got there at low tide and saw lots of critters, as well as the giant sea hares! Lots of little kids screwing with them but they are totally fascinating ! The parking lot is super small so we had to park across the street in the shopping center - which was not too bad of a schlep. There was also street parking available but PCH traffic is a bit scary to try to parallel park.
