I booked few hours ahead to get the 50% off food on Mondays. It was already busy at mid-day but all the staff were calm and friendly. We weren't told what were the actual T&Cs of the special offer but I know that we had to order drinks. We ordered Hot Chocolate (£3.40), Latte (£2.90), Brisket Burger (£12.50), Crab Burger (£12.50) and 5 Hot Chicken Wings (£6). The food and drinks came at a reasonable time. I would have expected the hot drinks to be bigger in size like in a taller or wider mug for that price. My OH was slightly disappointed with the size of the crab which was smaller than the burger buns whilst I had no complaints about my Brisket Burger. Both burgers tasted great. We were quite surprised with the Chicken Wings though. They weren't fried but boiled then topped with sauce? We thought the chicken wings were overcooked but there was a kick to the sauce which we liked. Mixed reviews on the food and drink but overall it was a positive experience and we'd visit again in the future.

Amazing food - really damn tasty plus they have 50% off on Mondays if you book so massive bonus. Staff super friendly and although busy, food comes in good time and staff accommodating! Flavours are really good, concept is brilliant and such a great spot in Manchester NQ.

My sister wanted to go to another restaurant that was unknowingly closed (no update had been made to their website/google) so we happened to be right around the corner from here so thought lets give it a go. We were greeted by a polite host who seated us promptly, the restaurant had customers but wasn't very full. We ordered with the same person who seated us, who again was very polite and attentive as possible. However the busyness of the restaurant went from 0 to 100 and we waited quite a long time for food. Not surprising if the back of the restaurant was as understaffed as the front. The restaurant is deceivingly large having another side to it which is closer to the bathrooms. Dish was not what we expected at all and a bit smaller than imagined. The tea was fresh which was lovely. The taco dish was tasty but seemed pricey just for 2. Hats off to the server who was somehow managing to serve a large full to the brim restaurant of ppl and keep their cool and remain polite and make it a pleasant experience.

Disappointing brunch. First time at the Pen and Pencil, had been wanting to go for ages. Waited for our food for nearly an hour, but I didn’t mind too much as I knew Sunday brunch time would be busy. However, first they forgot a juice which arrived when we reminded them half an hour later. Then both mine and my friend’s bread was fully charred. But the worst was my other friend’s dish, who ordered pancakes with bacon. One of the bacon rashers was very clearly undercooked/raw. She politely asked to have it cooked a little longer. The waiter brought it back a minute later - it had been turned over so it looked more cooked on top, but was still the same underneath. When she sent it back again, it came back charred around the sides and fully overdone which felt passive aggressive…she also found bits of egg on her plate (not part of the dish). Our waiter was lovely and helpful. But we won’t be back.

I like to visit here regularly during the day when it’s quiet and catch up on my admin. Always enjoy a bite to eat here.

Really nice venue, coffee and shake was good. My steak and eggs were cold and my mother's breakfast was also cold. We told our waitress and she brought my mum a fresh breakfast and took my food off the bill. So while the food was a bit of a let down the customer service saved it and I'd go back again just for that. I believe our server was called Ana, lovely person, always smiling and very attentive.

Spent a wonderful afternoon here drinking cocktails and sampling the food. The Philly cheese steak is really tasty and the cheesy fries are the perfect accompaniment! We wanted Long Island Iced Tea which wasn't on the cocktail menu but the bartender was more than happy to oblige.

My wife and I had the best experience at pen and pencil on Sunday 3rd September. The staff and in particular Niall were friendly and accommodating. The food was amazing and fantastic value for money. Thanks we'll be back very soon.

Stopped in for some lunch on a Tuesday afternoon, was fairly busy, staff are friendly, we waited a while for the food but it was very tasty when it eventually came. Red Velvet French Toast and Pancakes with mixed berries and dulce de leche

Visited this weekend and would highly recommend! The staff are so lovely. Sophie made me a bespoke - and absolutely amazing - non alcoholic mocktail. She even made my daughter's squash look super fancy, which she loved. Would definitely visit again!

Bar style restaurant with around 10 or so large tables. Table service for food. Evening menu variety is pretty limited, but they have snacks that you can also order. We ordered a chicken burger, and it was ok. chicken wasn't too moist, but it wasn't too dry that it wasn't edible. Decent portion of fries (we upgraded to sweet potator fries), which were a little burnt but not too bad. Overall, it was decent and a good place for some drinks (but you will have to shout a bit )

My review is for the pancakes served at breakfast and lunch time, they have variety choices in the pancake menu, I‘ve tried chocolates 🍫 , Lemon 🍋 and Red Velvet 😋. All of them were very tasty 😋. Over it is Highly Recommended 👍🏻

Popped in for a quick lunch. Seated quickly, really good welcome. Drinks ordered as soon as we were ready, foods order taken promptly, too. Service was excellent. We needed to be in and out within 45 minutes... DONE ( without being rushed by the staff! 🙂). I'd recommend it 👍

The food was deeply flavoursome and beautifully presented. The steak and eggs were every bit as delicious as I'd hoped. Even the blend of English breakfast tea was complex and carefully considered. The menu is varied, plenty of choice. Friendly staff. Lunchtime was a buzzy but relaxed atmosphere with classic 60s pop playing in the background. Huge, huge fan. Will be back to eat my way through the menu.

Update: Visited P&P one more time to use Confidentials vouchers and I would only recommend recommend dirty fries and halloumi bites from the evening menu, best food items from the last three visits. Other sides were ok, but all very oily. Definitely avoid fried leeks - tasted like batter, but worse. No leek taste whatsoever. Nice interior and attentive personnel. Drinks are a bit pricey, but all drafts and coctails taste great. Unfortunately, food is average at best. During my first visit everyone in my party received a burnt and dry chicken. Also, they didn't have wild rice and gnocci in stock, so couldn't order salmon dish. During the visit yesterday they run out of blue cheese, so couldn't order chicken dish. Burgers were executed well on this occasion. Dinner time menu consist of maybe 10 dishes and most of those are burgers, so there is no variety and yet they seem to always be missing some ingredients. Breakfast looks great judging from the photos. I wish I could order it in the evening instead of burgers etc..

A friend booked a group of us in here for brunch. The service was excellent - friendly, prompt; the staff really made us feel welcome and established a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The coffee was good quality and the brunch was very tasty (especially the sausages). Aesthetically, it's standard NQ post-industrial chic, but I didn't find it pretentious at all. Good vibes. I'd highly recommend.

We had THE best bottomless brunch here! All of the staff are so friendly, in particular Niall. Made us feel instantly welcome and couldn't do more to help us from making sure we had drinks, taking photos and finding a table for us for after our time slot was finished! The food was delicious- loved the Eggs Royal. Thank you for starting my hen do off with a bang! Will definitely return.

Quick meal before a train journey. Nice atmosphere bit loud but it’s Friday evening. We were well impressed with prices and portion size

Consistently good food and service. I actually tried something different today (Eggs Pen and Pencil) which was a bit sweet for my liking. But I've been here about 4 times and not had any complaints about any of the other things I've eaten, so think it's just down to my preference with this one.

Excellent spot for brunch. Delicious food and you can even get a cheeky cocktail. Enjoyed the full English but others breakfast dishes looked delicious too. See pictures. I'll definitely visit again if in Manchester.

The food was amazing! I genuinely went without expectations as I thought it would be just average bar food on a Friday night, but I was pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food was on point, portions were very big and very well presented. The nachos were actual fried tortilla chips and not just some cheap ready made doritos. The staff were very friendly, and the service was exceptional especially considering it was a Friday night and they were very busy. I would highly recommend.

Very good food and excellent service from a friendly team. I had the P&P Burger which was very good and not only a good burger but plenty of pickles, lettuce, onion and sauce. My wife had the chicken burger, which was a massive piece of buttermilk fired chicken and was equally good.

Really enjoyed the food here. Very good service. Really great 2 hours. Had Thai burger, halloumi burger, nachos and pancakes. Fried are yummy! Unfortunately we had a load of middle aged rowdy men sat next to us (man City match on). Despite being told to quiten down they didn't. I left with a headache. But couldn't say anything negative about the place.

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
