Its a good "budget hostel" near the city centre. And its the only reasonable budget stay option if you want to stay near the city centre. Rooms are very clean and clean lilen are provided. Bathrooms are also nice and clean. There is a kitchen for common use with all utensils and a refrigerator. There is a common space and has a cool vibe. There is a onsite restaurant and bar with reasonable food and drink options.

We stayed NYE. Amazing place, staff were friendly and helpful. Place was lovely and super clean. Loved the location next to canal and easy walking distance to city centre. Food was amazing, great value. I had the Mac n cheese which was tasty and came with salad and fries. The smoothies were to die for, much needed health boost the morning after! Car park facilities were free and they allowed us to stay till midnight following day meaning we had chance t chill the next day and sober up before driving home. Will definitely be returning for more Manchester gigs!

This was a pretty great hostile experience, Just about everything about it. The rooms are clean, there's a bar cafe restaurant bilt right in which is important because it's not super close to everything, which is the only downside, but I would still highly recommend staying here, if you're going to Manchester and you need a budget option for lodging this is your spot.

I enjoyed my 1 night stay there. The rooms and all other places are clean and smart. It has a nice view in the door front. Staff were friendly and informative. I can recommend this place even for longer stays.

Wonderful hostel with fantastic staff! 😃 Rooms were great; very clean and great that they were en-suite too. All the staff were warm and welcoming. The restaurant was great, particularly breakfast which was more generous than other YHAs I’ve stayed. The students enjoyed the table football and pool table. Thanks for a great stay, super value for money. 👍

I had a lovely time, they were very helpful, definitely have changed my mind about the YMCA. The last YMCA, was a long time ago and has galvanised my feelings towards them. Now I have been pleasantly surprised. The breakfast was amazing! I was a very happy camper. The only negative, but totally out of their control, you will need earplugs, to block out the trains.

Staff member working the night shift (04/11/22) was utterly amazing I wasn’t feeling well and she was very helpful and kind. Would definitely recommend this hostel for the staff and cleanliness.

Good and proper. You have a nice white bed with light and USB chargers into it. You have hot water, cleaned sanitary and a 24 hour Check-in/Check-out. What do you wish more for a moderate price (circa 30£ a night). In the lobby you can even have good meals, snacks, drinks and play billiard and so on. WiFi is good, too.

Cheap, clean and the staff were welcoming and helpful on arrival and at breakfast which was tasty in a lovely airy room. The bar was open late and the pizza was enjoyed. I've stayed here a couple of times and loved it! Amazing location for a night out in Manchester with friends.

It was a lovely place with a really good location and free parking if you drive. The reception and the staff were lovely overall. Everything seemed to be well managed, clean, and taken care of. The only thing I really did not like is the bedding, was simply too warm, and was sweating as a result. I was with only boxers and had to sleep nearly uncovered, which in a hostel is not always the more convenient thing to do.

Fantastic hostel! I am very grumpy and still had the best time ever. The rooms are super hot though, so recommend bringing something to cool off with!

Firstly the hostel in good, clean and a nice feel to it, though the kitchen is very small for its size. However it is pretty painful that rates are tripled, yes TRIPLED if there is a football match on, I was told this happens in all accommodation in Manchester on match days? I was also told that if the hostel were full of football fans staff do night patrols to ensure people are quiet and considerate of others. Turned out there were no noisy football fans keeping everyone awake but plenty of people enjoying being drunk, incredibly noisy and worse seemingly completely unchallenged by any ‘night patrols’ for literally hours, seemed they burned themselves out without any staff speaking to them. It’s pretty frustrating for an average Tuesday evening when you have paid triple the price but only get half the nights sleep. Cannot imagine what weekends nights might be like.

Amazing Hostel, the staff were phenomenal, the hostel was very clean, the location was perfect. If I’m ever in Manchester again I’ll definitely come back here. It’s a no brainier. Just book it, don’t have second thoughts about this place. One down side but minor thing, is that the toilet is in with the shower, so don’t piddle on the floor or else you’ll have to step in it when you get out the shower. Thank you YHA

Really friendly and helpful staff. Whilst I can't comment on the rooms I live by the hostel, and when a neighbour dropped her keys down a drain outside, Rosie and her colleague (I didn't get her name, sorry!) Went out of their way to help which they didn't have to do at all. It's great to know that there are people working in the local community who are willing to provide assistance, and if they're willing to help neighbours I'm certain they'd go out of their way to help guests too! Also I've used the cafe a few times and it's well priced and good quality food and drinks :)

The place was neat and tidy. Hassle free check in and the girl in the reception was helpful in explaining everything. If the breakfast time could be extended for a bit longer it would be better. If you are a traveller on a short trip to Manchester, look no further than YHA.

Close to deansgate but most things take a bit of walk and going to city centre/Piccadilly area is easier with public transportation than walking. There is a bus stop nearby that does have a free bus (service number 1). The bathroom is alright. The 5 bed room has one bunk bed and three single twin beds. Floor space was large, windows were big with good natural light and ventilation. A/C and heater is always on so the room doesn't get stuffy. The beds get changed, trash bins emptied, but the floor isn't cleaned everyday.

10-15min walk from the city centre. The place is super old and I totally don’t get such a high rating here and on booking. Gross old carpet everywhere, mold in the bathroom. Old beds. Stuffy smell in rooms (bad ventilation). Kitchen quite small as for a such a big hostel. No dishwasher (some stuff we’re not washed well.

The shower and toilet cells in the dorms don’t have much space and the swans in the lake outside are noisy sometimes but a decent hostel overall. Staff were nice and helpful.

Well looked after, staff most helpful.Checking in again on 28th for 1 night, arrival will be in evening. I hope my room is kept for me! I feel the price for a room on a Saturday night at £89 is on the pricey side. Add on breakfast on Sunday and it's close to £100! Are you reflecting hotel prices? But YHA do not provide usual hotel accessories eg. towels and hospitality trays in rooms which are included in the charge for the room. I don't want to appear negative, I love using YHA and have supported you for a number of years, this is how I'm feeling right' now.

Only called in at the bar, before and after concert next door at Castlefield Bowl, very smart bar area, drinks probably average price for city centre, not exhorbitant. Bar staff friendly, courteous. Facilities smart and clean, nice outside area from which you can see into the Bowl. No cash taken at the bar, being card only! Nice place!👍😎

Fantastic location for visiting Central Manchester. Rooms are clean and spacious and have on-suite. The only small detracting is the mattress that was not the most comfortable. Huge shout out for the helpful and knowledgeable staff.

We stayed here for the last 2 nights over the Manchester Marathon weekend. We had a warm friendly welcome on arrival. We were shown around on our first experience of a YHA. Our room was very spacious with a big en suite wet room. The beds were very comfortable. We were next to the railway tracks, but could not hear it at all with the window closed. We used the bar and had food. Great food and service. Its a great location for the city centre. The only downside was the location of the bedroom - next to the door to the stairs and toilet - the door closed very loudly and was used very frequently throughout the night. Due to the service and location, however, I would definitely stay again.

Stayed here for a few nights as it was cheapest I could find and had stayed in other YHA hostels before. They always amaze me how they keep the same standard through all their places; friendly staff, great rooms and cheap food+drink. Location is in an awesome place and has a great view of the canal. Only a 5-10 minute walk away from all the shops too!

Rooms way too hot.. and a capsule bathroom for 6 people is a little daunting. With the heat and plastic coverer mattresses i didnt feel i got any sleep!

A great hostel, with bar and breakfast. We arrived around mid-night and the bar was open for beers and food, which was awesome. The bedrooms were super clean and warm. The bathroom didn’t have pressure on the watwr and was small, but it was inside the room so we didn’t have to go to the one at the end of the corridor.

Love youth hostels. The atmosphere is amazingly friendly and warm and welcoming. The common area is great. The location is amazing and the breakfast was delicious. The rooms are clean. The beds aren't brilliantly comfy. But it's still brilliant for the price.

From check-in, we were welcomed at this location by its staff. It was my first time staying in Manchester when I stayed at this YHA location. It was a good spot to really take in the character of the city (mainly its proximity to the canals). The hostel has pretty much everything you need such as a kitchen, hang-out area (in the main floor near check-in), luggage room, etc. Our room was alright, we had plenty of storage and our own bathroom with a shower. My only suggestion for the future is to include a step or a platform to reach the bathroom floor (as the entrance is above the ground) as it's a bit difficult to do so without nearly tripping, especially at night. Any stores you need to get to are within walking distance (about 5-10 minutes) along with the tram station. There's also a bus stop, restaurant, and a museum nearby.

rooms, bathrooms and other facilities were spotless. i used the shower outside our room as to not bother my roommates (it was 8am) and was left wondering if it had been specifically cleaned for me. the beds are good, plus you get a light, usb chargers and a little stand to leave your phone while it charges. the duvet was the fluffiest, most warm i've ever had the privilege of burrowing under. wifi is fast and reliable, although its area is pretty limited. the staff i met were friendly and soft spoken, which i appreciate a ton having social anxiety. overall a great accommodation, it's comforting to know i have a place to default to when i come back to manchester.

Very disapointed. Came to drop someone off late at night. First time there uncertain if it was the place as dark and near a canal. And what do they do a week later I get charged a 60£ fine for my 20min drop off. I call them and not even a we can retract that for you since you dropped a guest off late at night for us. Very bad service. Only in UK are parking lots for hotels and supermarkets with their name on it but somehow you get fined and sudenly its not their company who has the parking lot. Very disapointing.

Great location, within 5 walking distances to bars, shops, museums and transport. The welcome desk is 24hr, and was very informative about the visit. Key card given for the rooms. The rooms were good, it was in a 4 man dorm. Had two bunk beds with an ensuite bathroom/toilet. Space for luggage and hangers. Available plugs. There are good views along the water, a restaurant and a self-catering kitchen with equipment you can borrow. Very welcoming and definitely worth it for visiting Manchester

It's okay, it's a hostel. Does what it says on the tin. Very slow service from the bar to reception but all the staff were friendly. Probably wouldn't go back here as the beds were so uncomfortable but it did the job for a couple nights whilst in Manchester

  • 1/5 Phil B. 3 years ago on Google
I wasn’t able to stay as the Manchester lockdown restrictions wouldn’t allow it. The company were more than happy to ignore those rules and let us stay anyway. Had the cheek to email with all the details of what their doing to make it covid safe when in fact they ignore the government guidance saying ‘ If you run such a business or organise events on their premises, you should take steps to ensure people do not interact with people they do not live with, in line with COVID-19 secure guidance’. Terrible customer service wouldn’t let us change or cancel the booking, in these uncertain times you expect businesses to try and help people. Rude employees.

A great place, the most important that they only charge you 7 percent in advance and the rest at the property. a clean place, unisex 4-bedded rooms. a family can take a room for its own. in addition there are sweets but i don't know much about them. a quiet place, well managed, good spacious kitchen. i totally recommend it.

I did not expect anything special from my stay here, but even this cheaper form of accommodation surprised me pleasantly. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms beautifully clean, only they are smaller in size. Overall I was very satisfied here.

Everything about the hostel was excellent. There was regular cleaning bathrooms were as clean as home. There are sign boards everywhere and fun games which give you a hostel feel . The hostel faces a canal so some rooms have a really good view. The only complaint is that the Wi-Fi went off a couple of times

I'm quite disappointed. I had stayed in 2 YHA London (Soho and Canary wharf ) before but the one in Manchester isn't that good. 1)The checkin is at 5pm AND you can't be in the room between 1pm and 4pm. All of this to clean (covid) BUT the cleaning wasn't made in our room... Same hair in the shower for two days and I don't think the bin bag has been changed I'm sorry but why do we have to pay the full fee if we can't stay in the room and if the cleaning isn't made properly? 2) They ask the unvaccinated people to show a negative test even when we know that vaccinated people can also spread the virus... Why don't you ask a negative test to everybody? 3)They ask you to let the window open in the room ... 4)The worst part was for the suitcase. We arrived in the morning and we wanted to leave our suitcase at the hotel. The staff told us that since the checkin is at 5pm, it was only possible to leave it in a locker...that needed cash ! We had no cash and the nearest ATM was 15 minutes walking distance . It was raining. I walked to 2 ATM machines but they weren't working The girl at the reception barely listened to us , she went back to what she was doing , in a rude way. She and her colleague didn't try to help us... They were like "we can't keep your suitcase because of covid "... They could , and should, have found a solution ! (Or mention it when you book the room on the website) I think that this hostel should stop using the covid as an excuse for anything . Thanks anyway to the Spanish-speaking woman at the reception who is nicer than her colleagues

Very friendly and kind people work here. Felt very safe. Clean environment and our kids absolutely loved the vibe. Great location as well. Good value for money. If visiting Manchester again, we would love to stay here again! One request I have is to improve the wifi coverage improved so all rooms will have a decent wifi internet connection.

Would recommend the YHA Manchester. The centre is clean, tidy and well presented. Facilities include a self catering kitchen, plenty of seats to eat, a bar/food to purchase and a breakfast if wanted. Would definitely return again, as I didn't realise how lovely YHA's are. Thank you.

  • 4/5 Tomek 1 year ago on Google
Great hostel which I'd recommend to anyone looking to stay right in the city centre. The only issue was the extreme heat meant rooms were very warm as there's no AC, though this wasn't a major issue and it was VERY hot so there was little anyone could do.

  • 4/5 Anastasia Y. 1 year ago on Google
Convenient and beautiful location, but the geese nearby were very loud and would make noises at the very inconvenient hours. Internet connection was bad in the lobby, and non-existent in the room. I booked a bed in an ensuite 4-female dorm. The bed was nice and clean, and it came with an electricity plug and a light. The room came with a mirror, personal lockers and hangers. The room was quite dark unfortunately, and although clean, the bathroom had no proper ventilation that it gets very stuffy. I particularly loved the industry standard kitchen, but that'd be great if YHA could at least provide some coffee and tea that don't even cost much. Very friendly staff on every shift.

Don’t get me wrong, i love kids ! But during my stay about 30-40 kids were there from school and they were literally all over the places , Not complaining but it could have been good to just leave some chairs and space for other travellers who stay there as well so everyone can enjoy facilities and chill out. Far from that , Manchester yha was my favourite hostel , great access to city centre and lovely , clean place to stay . Wifi didn’t work in the rooms .

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in, everything very clean, organized and new. The kitchen is super equipped, it has all the options of cutlery, pans and utensils to cook there. I arrived before checkin and was able to put my bags in a room, there is a restaurant and bar inside the hostel with breakfast and pint options. The reception and recreation area are well equipped, with pool, foosball and board games. The hostel is very close to the center in 10 minutes walking you can reach the main points of Manchester, in addition there is a subway station 5 minutes away on foot and a free bus stop very close too. The rooms are small but well organized with a bathroom inside, a power outlet and a large closet to put your bags. First trip alone and I felt super safe. I highly recommend it, great value for money, I paid little and had a 10-point stay

This is a good hostel. I stayed only a couple of nights a few months ago. I arrived very late and was unsure how to get there, due to my own lack of prior planning. Staff were understanding and helpful, which I appreciate. Enjoyed my stay at Manchester YHA.
