Visiting the biggest church in Asia. Taal Basilica, canonically known as the Minor Basilica of Saint Martin of Tours displays a breathtaking beauty and wondrous historical features. Being able to see it with your own eyes is incredible.

It is considered to be the largest church in the Philippines and in Asia, Martin of Tours is the patron saint of Taal, whose fiesta is celebrated every November 11. If you visit this minor basilica and go inside you will feel the presence of God, It’s so calm and solemn. The interior is so antique.

Reputed to be the largest basilica in Southeast Asia. This church was originally located nearby Taal Lake but was abandoned and relocated towards Balayan Bay in 1754 when Taal Volcano erupted. Construction began in 1755. The church features trompe L'oeil paintings inside with national historical markers emplaced on its facade.

Quite a phenomenal Spanish building; the interior is magnificent, versus it's outside austerity. Rebuilt several times due to earthquakes and claiming to be the largest Catholic church in the region - well worth a visit if nearby.

I am eager to visit Taal Basilica or the Minor Basilica of St. Martin of Tours because an earthquake hit Batangas and it created a crack on the wall of this church. The facade looks old and I love that. While standing by the entrance, I was astounded by the unique silver tabernacle and the spectacular and artistic curves on the ceiling, highlighted by the stunning golden lights. The ambiance inside was solemn, calm and really relaxing. I did not proceed to the front as respect to the couples having their wedding vows.

Dubbed as the largest Catholic church in Asia, the Basilica of St. Martin de Tours is one astounding landmark that sits atop a hill right at the center of the town. With the length of 96 meters and the width of 45 meters, it's impossible for anyone not to notice this religious structure. - taal.gov.ph

Good already, but Some of the facilities needs to renovate. The parking area must be bigger. While the small city should be better.

It is one of the nicest historic churches we have been, nice structures, and very detailed, very peaceful with friendly locals.

The Minor Basilica of St. Martin de Tours (within the Archdiocese of Lipa) is considered to be the largest church in the Philippines and in Asia standing 88.6 meters long and 48 meters wide. This a culturally and historically significant landmark in Taal declared as a Minor Basilica on December 8 1954. The architecture is quite topnotch. The church looks amazing inside and out. It even has an elevated platform where priests used to preach in back when Catholic Latin Masses where still mainstream. The Basilica is more quiet on weekday mornings and serves as a space for those who wish to quietly pray. I would one day wish to go back and hear mass here on a Sunday despite the crowd.

The church and the places around were fascinating. Just one recommendation of having a restaurant that serves local Batangas cuisine such as lomi, goto, etc.. so visitors that are coming from far places dont have to drive away from the town to get something to eat.

Very holy and solemn place. Once you enter the church, you would feel the 15th century vibes surrounding its ceilings, walls and floors. One of the oldest and largest church in Asia, it is well preserved.

An impressively sized church for Asia, this was an unexpected sight! Several very picturesque spots on the grounds. I was particularly gratified to see several statues depicting a more historically accurate Jesus with darker skin. Certainly doesn't compare to the majesty of cathedrals in Europe, but a neat find for those who haven't had the chance to journey further yet.

Out of all the vintage designs in Taal, this one takes the cake. Apparently one of the oldest churches in the country, everything in here screams elegance and heritage. Travelling here should be a piece of cake, since this is Taal's crowning gem. A wonderful piece of architecture.

A Spiritual Journey through Time and Beauty I recently had the privilege of visiting Taal Church, also known as the Minor Basilica of Saint Martin of Tours, and I must say it was an awe-inspiring experience. Located in the charming town of Taal, Batangas, this historic church exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I approached the church, I was captivated by its magnificent facade. The intricate details and grandeur of the Spanish colonial and baroque architecture left me in awe. The massive wooden doors seemed to welcome me into a world of history and spirituality. As I stepped inside, a sense of tranquility washed over me. The vast interior space with its high ceilings, ornate altars, and beautiful stained glass windows created a serene atmosphere that invited introspection and reverence. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were remarkable, reflecting the deep devotion and artistic expression of the community. Taal Church holds a significant place in Philippine history. It has stood strong for centuries, withstanding the ravages of time, natural disasters, and wars. Being within its walls felt like stepping back in time and connecting with the rich heritage of the country. The church has witnessed countless events and serves as a spiritual center for both locals and pilgrims from around the world. The spiritual experience at Taal Church was profound. I found solace in its hallowed halls, offering my prayers and finding a sense of peace. Attending a religious ceremony allowed me to witness the vibrant faith of the community, making me feel part of something greater than myself. The church's location in the heart of Taal added to its charm. The surrounding area, with its well-preserved ancestral houses and cobblestone streets, transported me to a bygone era. I couldn't help but explore the town, immersing myself in its rich cultural heritage. And from the church grounds, I was treated to a breathtaking panoramic view of the town and the majestic Taal Volcano. In conclusion, my visit to Taal Church was a spiritual journey through time and beauty. Its mesmerizing architecture, historical significance, serene interior, and the overall atmosphere of devotion made it an unforgettable experience. Whether you seek a connection with history, a moment of spiritual reflection, or simply a chance to appreciate stunning architecture, Taal Church is a must-visit destination. Prepare to be transported to a realm where faith, history, and beauty intertwine.

Takes approximately 3 hours to get here from Metro Manila on a weekday. Worth the effort since I've been planning to visit for a long time. Some parts of the church need to be repaired. Meanwhile, there are just too many vendors at the church's entrance.

We went here on Christmas Day to quench my son's thirst for history. The traffic was bad but maybe it's because the Mass had just ended and the crowd were leaving. What used to be like an eternity of traffic suddenly became a haven of parking space and open air. Get ready for narrow roads going up. The church itself, for me, was majestic overlooking Taal Lake (?). Inside you could see old chandeliers and sculpted ornaments on the walls. What's really mesmerizing was the altar itself in all its grandeur. The left and right side of the altar was adorned with mosaic like paintings as well as statues of saints. Overall the experience was great just brace yourself for the long ride. It wouldn't hurt to try Tapang Taal which comes in beef and pork meat. I think it's the best tapas I've tasted.

Such a beautiful place to go! The houses around the perimeter are gorgeous old fashioned spanish influenced. But I hope that this is not a Catholic church but an Apostolic Oneness Pentecostal Church who jad the real Presence of God.

I saw this church by the window of our service van in 2008 during company summer outing. It is sad that we did not drop by because it's not in the itinerary. Until in 2016, I got a friend who brought me there and shared her miraculous stories, her prayers were granted. Mine was partially granted in Nov. 2018 and was granted in full on Feb. 2020. It's a beautiful church, try to explore.

It is also known as Taal Basilica which opened in 1878 with a Neo- Classic Structure. It's a Centuries Old Spanish style Catholic church as most churches in the Philippines. But this one is Unique because it is Tagged as one of Asia's Largest Church. It is Temporarily Closed at the moment because of Covid-19 and it's under construction so i suggest not to visit the church at the moment.

Taal Basilica was first built in present day San Nicolas in 1575 with San Martin de Tours as patron saint. In 1754 the church was destroyed along with the town Taal in the eruption of the Taal volcano. It was then that the church was transferred to its present site, but in 1849 it was destroyed again by an earthquake. Construction of the new church began in 1856. The church was made into a basilica in 1954. Taal Basilica is considered the biggest church in the Philippines and in Asia.

If you are looking for an old church that has a beautiful interior and holds the record as Asia's largest church, St. Martin de Tours or Taal Basilica is it. We stayed for the Thursday mass with the washing of the feet. The homily explained what it meant for Jesus to have removed His outer garment before getting down to wash the feet of His disciples. The outer garment represents who He was in this life: teacher, healer, Messiah, Son of God, God the 2nd person of the Trinity. The washing of feet represents His love and service to His creation: man. In return, as Jesus commanded His disciples to wash each other's feet, so are we reminded to do so to each other in our families and within the church, and yes even to those who do not share our faith if that could be used by God to open that person's heart to His word. We are to set aside all ego and pride that emanates from our positions in life (the outer garment), and assume the humility of a servant in serving others. St. Martin de Tours is beautiful to behold and it's priests are wonderful to listen to. Kaya sulit mag visit dito. Taal has many beautiful attractions too that you can visit after visiting the Taal Basilica.

Great historical church. I attended the church wedding here. It is fantastic. The church choir has well delivered the songs.

2nd time visiting this place, still very majestic and one of the iconic places to visit in Batangas. Just many vendors that offer 3pcs candles for about 20 pesos and you can light it on the candle area where you can send your prayers quietly.
