Don't go on Sundays. Most museums are closed. Was told that it's because most are govt owned now. Also parking is very hard. Most streets are one lane only.

We drove over an hour to get here after my dad's very outdated guidebook said it was "not to be missed." Alas, the guidebook (and Google reviews!) misled us once again... Besides the basilica, there is truly nothing to see here. Like, it's your average slightly run down small town, with a few older private homes with hard to read plaques on them. There are so many fascinating and beautiful things to see in the Philippines; this is objectively not one of them.

The Municipal Hall of the Heritage town of Taal have a character upon itself. Touristically, it has a great vantage point of the heritage town beside it. Also if you would want to know the history of the place, meeting the tourism people at this area could be a good idea.

We took a day trip to the Volcano and then on to Taal. The Basilica is superb, but the rest of the town is not that interesting. We visited a couple of the museums but they were very outdated and not a lot of interest. We had lunch in a local restaurant and for 5 people paid a total of €9 for a main course and drinks!!

Felt a certain patriotic pride to see a town preserve their heritage so diligently. It was a beautiful experience driving through the streets and beholding real "Las Casas de Filipinas" of Spanish times. We were off to go to another place so we didn't have time to take pictures. So I'm promising myself I'd be back here. 🙂

Traffic and ribbon development are the curse of Luzon. In the centre, you can touch Filipino culture via the impressive church and colonial mansions. A mini Vigan awaits.

It's worth visiting even if it's far from Manila. The community is very peaceful and they really give importance to their heritage houses. Don't miss their tapang taal and longanissa..super delicious too!
