Visited total of 3 hive gyms in my trip and this location was my favourite. The style was very flowy and emphasized tension. Enjoyable climbs!! The workout area was amazing, wish I could have spent more time on the boards.

The Hive North Shore location is easily the best gym I've been to in a long time. learning a new sport can be daunting and hard when you don't have anyone to show you the ropes. Luckily the staff at this location have been unfathomably helpful and you can really see how passionate they are about what they do. The front of house or "desk" staff have been a highlight of many visits and are all polite, helpful, and funny.

Place was nice, but the Surrey unit is much bigger and with better routes. I might be spoiled from my usual gym, but climbing here was pretty dull, holds are all dirty (even "new" routes which are not graded), not easy to gage which problems are for my level (their hex system is way too loose), problems lack creativity, holds are repetitive... it just feels like the bouldering area is not maintained by people who love bouldering, there's no investment in it. If you're a beginner climber, this review is not for you. The gym might be fun for beginners, kids, etc. But for more advanced climbers (v7+) it'll get old pretty quick.

Nice facility, good route setting. Would like to come more often, but it has some of the worst hours for a climbing gym I have seen. To live in North Van & have to purchase a membership at Ground Up in Squamish (opens @ 6am most days) to accommodate my work hours is pretty silly. Please open earlier!! Any other facility can remain open while setting routes, can't quite understand this policy.

This used to be a really cool place but staff does absolutely nothing to ensure the kids in their camps are taking turns on the wall and aren't going underneath you when climbing. They also raised the pass to $1300 for the year. Now you can pay sky high prices to attend a kids jungle gym and watch them all climb and maybe get a turn once every hour or so while possibly falling and killing a kid that's casually hanging out underneath you as you climb!

This is a very clean and modern, new indoor climbing gym. There are lots of routes to climb, but they don't change the routes so frequently that you're never able to set up personal climbing "projects" (i.e., problems or routes to which you must to return several times before you can finish). There's a lounge that's quiet for study or computer work, but it also has board games, a multi-game two-player arcade machine, and a table-top ⚽ game. They also have fun, energetic music on play (alternating between eighties and modern pop) for all. There's also a retail store with clothes and stuff up front. I like this place!

Spacious, big training room, lounge, clean, setting was interesting, very welcoming vibe with friendly staffs. With the quality of the gym, the price was reasonable I think. I saw many family groups with thier kids, I guess it's a kid friendly gym. Overall, it was excellent!

Awesome place for a birthday party! Right from booking the party to the time we left, all the staff encountered were great. Andrew and Aga were the staff members leading the kids in safety orientation and falling techniques, games and climbing, and they were awesome! Very good with the kids. Facilities were clean (even noticed that they had sanitized our space after we had cleared out). The community room was great to have as there's a fridge/freezer and sink in there, so very convenient if bringing food. The kids wall was really great, especially for the really young kids. We had ages 2 to 7 in our party and some of the younger ones were scared to go out to the main climbing area so it was a good thing they could just hang out at the kiddie wall. The older kids had lots of fun in the main climbing area. I can't praise the staff enough...they were pretty much with our group for the entire 2.5 hours, except for when we took a break for food and cake. But they would check back in and take the kids again for games as soon as we were ready....really good coordination. Highly recommend this place for birthday parties!

Having a studio in this hive location is such a good idea. My favourite combination is power yoga and then bouldering till my muscles burn. Wish they had these in a closer location (i.e. Vancouver).

Great bouldering gym! There are plenty of challenging routes but the atmosphere is very encouraging!

I’m so glad another reviewer brought up the B.O issue - some climbers REALLY need to wear adequate deodorant and reapply as necessary! Please. It is common courtesy. This is one of the main reasons why I avoid climbing at busier hours. Other than that I do enjoy it here (I climb 1-3 hex). The staff are very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are (usually) clean. I do find the routes at Surrey more fun though.

Fantastic gym, great staff, great crowd. But holy hell some of y'all (members, not staff) NEED to start wearing deodorant. It's not everyone, obviously, but a few regulars make it distractingly tough to wait for a turn on the wall, and I often find myself moving to other sections I don't even feel like climbing just to get away from it. WEAR DEODORANT PLEASE. I don't care if you're some rugged outdoorsy hippie athlete that likes it "all natural". YOU STINK.

My friend and I were brand new to rock climbing/bouldering, and this Hive location was very accommodating to new comers to the activity. Front desk staff were extremely helpful and nice, and when they showed us through safety procedure they didn't judge whatsoever for our lack of skill. Have been a couple times now and have enjoyed the experience very much every time. The gym itself also includes a weight room with all you really need - a squat rack and dumbbells as well as various pull up bars. The only issue I had with the gym was the drop in price - a little steep, however, I understand the high rate as there isn't anything similar in the area. Overall a good experience and I will be back.

I prefer this gym to the one in Vancouver. The setting seemed better and you can use powdered chalk. Pretty big, gets crowded in the evenings, though.

Our experience today at The Hive North Shore was horrible and we will never go back. As we paid for entry for three boys ages 3-6, the man working the front desk ensured us that we’d have lots of time in the children’s area for our kiddos, even though there was a large group of kids there. We paid our thirty something for our two boys and our friend paid the fee for his kiddo. After 15-minutes in the kids area, we were kicked out by staff saying, “well, that’s Saturdays. There’s a group who’s in here now so you need to leave the children’s area.” I thought they were joking as they’d actually told us the complete opposite before accepting our payment. Well as it turns out, they weren’t joking. They told us our kids could go to the small “bumblebee” lines in the adult area. For kids that are 3,4, and 6, this is an entirely different experience and one I would have not paid over thirty dollars for. If they’d been straight up when we paid that we would be in the adult section then I would have completely understood and we would have gone across the street to LaserDome or to the indoor North Shore Bike Park at Cap Mall. Not a problem. Instead, what seemed like the woman in charge at the front desk with short dark hair and a light t-shirt was condescending, rude, and actually chuckled about the situation as if we were idiots. We live close by, are active members of the Blueridge/Seymour Heights community and will be sharing our experience with our many friends of little ones like us. My advice - Don’t go. And if you do and they say that over thirty bucks will get your kiddos more than 15-mins of climb time in the kid area, don’t believe them.

Way too overcrowded. You spend more time standing around waiting than climbing. Definitely overpriced for how overcrowded it is and for the quality of the setting and rentals. My running sneakers would have been better than the rentals

Loose chalk allowed. Fun setting in an old school gym with very high walls, and a section with people's that top out on the top of the wall. Full training area, barbells & plates too.

The space is cozy and great for beginners - which I am. Unfortunately the only thing is that there are way too many people walking into you or past you too closely(close enough to rub up on you) during peak times. But the team is great and their energy keeps me awake in the morning!

Super nice to a first timer! Great vibe and setup. They did not warn me that I wouldn't be able to even wash my hands the next day as the forearms get so sore.

First time bouldering! It was a fun experience, the staff are well educated and ready to help. It provides you with gym facilities for upper body work, yoga studio, and a little space for retail.

Wonderful staff. My son takes weekly Bouldering classes there and they're very encouraging and knowledgeable. He loves going every week for the 1.5 hrs and has so much fun. It's a great workout for him and usually he wants to stay longer.

First time climber, I had no idea what to do and the staff was so helpful. They taught me the basics and safety procedures, after that I just had a great time and got a monthly membership. Highly recommended for anyone who's interested in just having some fun times while exercising their core.

The staff are all really rad and the manager rules. Setting is rad with a good balance of problem types. Good facility for bouldering and training. 🤘

Best gym in Vancouver, lovely wall and mat space. Great setting, upstairs lounge and changing rooms, fantastic facilities. Cannot find anything to nitpick or fault.

It is hot outside (30C) so indoor climbing is definitely a wise option. Their booking app suggested this location over the downtown ones that do not have AC. I drove all the way to this gym to realize that this gym is quite warm as well even at 9 pm!

Been going to this location for 3+ years and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Can get a little busy (within reason, of course) during peak hours but understandably so: it's a sweet location, staff are super chill, routes are plenty of fun and have a good rotation. Love the relatively new Kaya implementation. Also my go-to location for introducing my friends to climbing

Let me tell you, this place is amazing. Great Covid protocols and very mindful. Staff listens to you and understand your needs, they help you within their possibilities. A bit overpriced for the average climber, but worth every single penny. My only con is the booking system. It is really hard to get a spot on peak hours, and I mean it. Tried to book a climbing spot on a Saturday at 10 am a week ahead, after spots became available, and the event was full before I was even able to click confirm. One of my favourite climbing spots in the area.

Staff are very friendly, settings pretty good, nice sized facility, I liked it. Still not a fan of liquid chalk but what can you do.

Best place on the earth to be active, healthy & safe... & the team is really professional. My daughter’s biggest fun is to go to hive & she is hoping to go for competitions. what else a mom can wish for?

Great climbing gym and there's a little kids room which is fantastic for kids under 5 who are learning to climb! Really love this gym. There's also two awesome training areas upstairs for the adults!

😠 Unfortunately what happens at this Club is true. That’s a toxic environment for children and parents if you allow bullying, assaults and bad team behaviour. It seems that the management is more concerned about their reputation, rather than act and stop the bullying there....The first NP article said...
