The food and the ambience was great! Got too hungry and missed clicking pictures of the food, but there was no disappointment there. The servers however could have been more polite and considerate but they might be having a day! So apart from that a cute and cozy place to chill with friends.

You can’t tell from the appearance. From the street it looks like a traditional grill and bar. When you step into patio, it’s another world. Treasure place been found on Main Street.

Came here on a Friday evening, did not expect for them to have such a nice patio in the back. Service was great, our server was really friendly and attentive. The drinks were priced at reasonable rates and the duchess pub platter was delicious.

Last Friday, around 11pm, my friends and I decided to visit the Dutchess of Markham pub, and what an excellent choice it was! Despite the late hour, the place was buzzing with energy, filled with people enjoying their night out. The pub’s two floors offered plenty of space, and while we stayed on the main floor, we could see that the upstairs was just as lively. One of the highlights of our visit was the cleanliness of the pub. It’s always great to see an establishment well-maintained, especially on a busy night. This attention to detail really made our experience more enjoyable. The service was another standout. Our server was not only efficient and quick but also exceptionally courteous and friendly, adding a personal touch to our evening. As for the drinks, I had a refreshing Heineken, while my friends opted for loggers, and we were all pleased with our choices. In conclusion, if you’re in the area and looking for a great place to unwind, the Dutchess of Markham should definitely be on your list. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

First time trying this place but definitely not the last!! Thank you to Dawn for her wonderful service and recommendations. We had a delicious lunch in their front patio. We ordered the Blackened Chicken Salad which was delightfully refreshing and many different flavours of a bit of jerk spice and creamy avocado to slight sweetness from the mango! We also ordered their wings, I must confess these were one of my top 5 wings I’ve ever had. Crispy and glazed with honey bbq. Heavenly goodness!! Also folks, there’s a big patio at the back that is busy and has music playing and it’s own bar. A must try!!👏👏

From the minute I arrived the waitress had an attitude because I asked if there was a lift to the second level, because the stairs were an issue for me. I have mobility issues. It was downhill from there. No washroom on the second level, we had to make up a gluten free option and her attitude towards me was terrible. Even a few guests at the wake said...wow, she doesn't like you. All in all it was a terrible experience and she'll be glad to know myself and most of the guests will not be returning. This is the very first bad review I've ever given an establishment.

First time here. It's the neighborhood local bar but more family oriented really as there were a few tables with small children there. Smaller place and it gets busy. They have an upper floor but washrooms are in the basement. Staff on the upper floor were friendly e ought but could have been way more attentive. Food was ok, nothing to write home about though. Overall nice ambiance and relaxed setting. Probably will return if I'm in the area and want to go to a sports bar for a drink and a bite. Also recommend if you're in the are and like sports bars too.

We visited the place last night, the ambience and food was good. But customer service is something they need to work on, one of the waiters was very rude. Not a good experience at all.

Nestled amidst Main St Markham, The Duchess of Markham Pub captures the essence of a traditional British pub with a modern twist. The pub's decor pays homage to its British roots, subtly incorporating historical elements that add a touch of authenticity to the overall experience. One of the pub's highlights is the extensive beverage selection, including a wide variety of draught and craft beers, ciders, and specialty cocktails. The pub's food menu offers a mix of English classics and innovative dishes. From hearty pub favorites like fish and chips and liver and onions plus. For our meals, I had Montreal Smoked Meat wrap with onion rings, one of my favourites on the menu. My partner had liver, bacon & onions but didn't really enjoy it. Found it a bit tough and didn't like the gravy on top. He'd try another option next time. Only downside, found the patio loud. Many regular patrons and they can get quite excited with raised voices. Put a damper on our meal and conversation.

This cozy little pub on Main St. Markham has been around for quite some time. The inside is pretty nice with friendly staff and a pretty decent menu with a sizeable selection. Food was good, but portion/size-wise (for my Guiness lamb stew) felt a bit on the smaller side. Wife thought her shepherd’s pie could be a bit bigger as well. The curry chicken our friend got seemed okay in size though, so I’m really not sure… I need a larger sample size.

Definitely worth a visit. I've been several times for their wing night and am never disappointed. The atmosphere here is warm, welcoming, and a little loud due to the crowd. Basically, what a pub should be. The servers are all great, but it gets busy and you generally stand around for a few minutes before you can ask to be seated. They have multiple floors that are handled differently so you have to check each yourself if you want a table. Anyway, the food is good, but the fries are a bit too basic for me, so I always opt for cactus cut chips instead. The wings and mains that I've had are good and I've never been disappointed. My only ask is that they add an interesting beer or two and post/display their beer menu.

This is my stomping grounds, so I always enjoy this pub it gives me "Cheers" vibes. Go where everybody knows your name lol. 1/2 price wings on Tuesday the servers are great and we were enjoying the music that was being played as we ate. We, my sister, my niece and I sang along with the wide variety of songs played in the background. Good time

Have been here twice , both times the experience was not good. Recently went where the staff had permitted us to bring a small cake when we made reservations, only to complain when we tried to cut it. Asked for a knife , said no and continued to be very rude and argue with us. Hopefully others receive better service from this establishment.

Loved going to this place when we lived in markham , was there last night as we love the Irish nachos...nachos looked like pancakes. Before they piled up the nachos, we had to order two yesterday as one was not enough. Charging the same price but cutting down the quantity

The food and service was great. It was a lovely time and I enjoyed sitting outside. It was a bit loud for conversation but the live music made it worth it. Would recommend! This restaurant is the heart of markham.

The Duchess of Markham was the perfect venue for a retirement get-together with 40 guests. The back yard patio is very welcoming and allowed the guests to mingle. The rain held off but with the large gazebo and lots of umbrellas you could probably enjoy the patio during a light rain. Even with 2 large reservations on the patio the staff took orders and got drinks and food served in a timely manner. Food was delicious. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Thank you for making our get-together a success. The Duchess is a great place to celebrate with friends and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Came here with my brother and a couple of high school buddies for dinner last night and had a blast. Food was fantastic and service was great. Paul(the owner) is a super nice guy and our server (Kieren)- apologies if I spelled it incorrectly- was fabulous. Look forward to coming back!

wings did you say? half price on a Tuesday too? in! Travelled from Sheffield to this awesome pub in Markham. Excellent all around. The patio is a proper cool wee spot as are the staff. Food wise, get stuck in. Everything on menu is top notch The wings and ribs though... Next level, as is the Dill sauce. Clientele really nice. Love it.

GREAT service and tasty food, set in a very quaint old, cool little Victorian-style building. You'll love it!

I have been going here for years! If you are a fan of pub fare that is quality, then this the place for you. I prefer going in the summer because they have a back patio. Crowd is a mix but tends to be of the 45/50 and up crowd. Staff are usually amazing and attentive but they can be busy. I usually like their burgers but the other day it was kind of dry. It was my first time having the upgraded poutine as a side, I was a bit sad of the size considering how large their normal side of fries was… but it tasted great!

Small wings they were delicious, the suicide sauce tasted great but Frank's Red hot is spicier. The spicy Irish Nacho's are a must try!

Two stars: one for it being in Canada, a truly delightful country; the other for it being in Markham, a good-restaurant rich town. We were there on Friday, September 30 around 8:30 PM. I’m a world traveller and it was my worst hospitality experience in Canada. If the owner is Canadian, he should retire and rehire all. We both ordered the fish and chips (double). No credible criticism is possible. This simple, signature meal of the British Commonwealth was in every sense atrocious and, I think, act of treason. Rather than fight the temptation to use buckets of expletives to describe the atrociousness of the meal, I’ll simply say: don’t eat it. The place was crowded so the place is popular. I hope our fubar experience was an accident for else, it paints the entire community and patronage in very poor light. In any event, we are extremely unlikely to even glance Duchess-ward should we be driving up or down Markham road.

We walked in and no one acknowledged us. There was a man on the phone and a server walking up and down. She passed us about 6 times. My husband said "excuse me" 6 times to no avail. The guy on the phone was off of the phone and he definitely heard my husband but purposely ignored us. Not sure if it's a racial thing considering that each white person that came in and departed were greeted warmly. I hope the food makes it worth the trip. This is not to condemn the staff in any way. I see it as a training opportunity.

Visited 2days ago with family. Ordered the Tropical chicken salad. The chicken strips were so thin and dry. Honestly I was really disappointed as I have ordered this before and the chicken was cut in larger portions and very moist. There is need for improvement here. Will not be ordering this again.
