Really good location, hundreds of Pokestops if you play Pokemon Go. Lots of food options, people are nice and the hotel itself is very easily accessible, close to a university and really good value. Huge ceilings, chic interior, great vibe and nice and quiet. Would recommend!

Fabulous little reasonably priced hotel located close to Paddy’s Markets and surrounded by lots of places to eat. The lovely young lady who checked us in could not have been more helpful, even assisting with opal cards. Great coffee the next morning after a comfortable night’s sleep. Would definitely stay here again.

If you’re looking for a quiet retreat this place isn’t for you. They do have double glazed windows but there was still a reasonable amount of street noise. However in saying that you’re not staying in the middle of Sydney for the quiet life, this motel is. Dimond in the rough. Service was excellent, priced reasonably for being right in the middle of everywhere. Trams stop almost right outside. Chinatown markets, patties markets are across the road. Really you can’t go wrong. Very modern rooms with a modest bathroom. Beds were so comfortable. Highly recommend, I have put this one in my must stay at again folder.

What can I say about this place.. I booked on a whim through Qantas hotels as my regular place for work trips was higher by about 50%. Looking at the images on the site, the exposed brick and mix of materials the photos looked great. A new hotel with pretty appealing layouts and design, figured it was worth a shot. Especially with the location being fairly central and close to Darling Harbour, where I needed to be. Most of those things were true. When I got there it was certainly central, only minutes from the train station so the journey from the airport was seamless. The hotel is on a nondescript Street across from Paddy's Markets and above a dodgy looking live seafood shop, but once you got through the main doors it was pleasant enough. Check in was also seamless and I was in my room within minutes. This is where the place let me down. I'm pretty sure i was put in a storage cupboard. It had a single bed, something I haven't experienced since living in my parents house two decades ago. A tiny cramped table with two uncomfortable chairs, so nowhere to work. You couldn't see the TV from the bed, either so the room overall was pretty uncomfortable. Definitely nowhere near the asking price.💸💸💸 Pleasant staff and decent location but a pretty horrible experience considering the room. I'll never book this hotel again. 🙅🏼‍♂️

After reading some of these reviews, I felt I had to share my experience from my stay at the Ultimo a few years ago on a work trip. If I could give the team more than 5 stars I would. It really depends on the room you stay in. I was booked into a courtyard room so my room and bathroom was nice and spacious. The bed was also super comfortable. The location of this room was in a nice and quiet part of hotel. Housekeeping had such attention to detail that even the toilet paper ends were folded and stamped with the hotel logo everyday. Loved that the shampoos and soaps were from a high quality organic brand. Hotel is in a great location close walking distance to ICC and has a great selection of cafes and restaurants nearby. The team at the front desk were always lovely to deal with and at the end of my stay even arranged transport back to to airport for me. I highly recommend the Ultimo as the team went above and beyond to ensure I had a memorable stay.

Outwardly there is nothing wrong with this place, close to China Town, lots of Asian restaurants and bars around and one thing that stood out was how clean this place is...the rooms were very clean as was the reception and other areas of the hotel. BUT, it's very expensive for what it is ..$180 for King size room (or large double) plus $38 hotel validated parking...for comparison, the Crown Plaza which is $220 including free parking and way way nicer....basic amenities, we unfortunately had a cracked tv screen and there are no drawers or cupboards (so won't suit long stays). The room walls are thin so I could hear muffled sounds but surprisingly quiet with the traffic (although I could hear the cars although muffled). The hot water takes a while to heat up but as I mentioned, it was super clean!

I stayed for one night for my graduation, I called directly as I needed early check in, I spoke to Emma who was super helpful and kind, she made the whole process stress free and was able to get me early check in and an upgrade for a very reasonable price. She happened to be there on check in as well and remembered speaking to me which was a lovely personal touch. All of the other staff were really helpful and kind as-well. Room was very clean and exactly what we needed, easy check in and out. It’s also in a great walkable location, would definitely recommend!

I came here all by myself. I didn’t have reservation and I walked here because the hotel that I had reserved had emergency smoke alarm. I was super tired and was greeted by awesome receptionist Adam. He also gave me discount and an upgrade to a better room. The checkin-out process was smooth. I had nice sleep in the room.

Friendly staff and ideal location to visit the city and Darling Harbour. Pet friendly courtyard rooms! Reasonable pricing — booking via AirBnB. Requires $200 deposit for pet rooms but had all refunded at checkout after their checked the room while waited. Good system and would book again.

Great location, close to woollies and other services. The room was clean and the staff was welcoming and helpful. We had issues with the access cards and the reservation. We had to pay 38 dollars a day for parking, which is excepted in the city. Overall was ok. I would recommend this place for a short staying.

This is exactly what a mid-range hotel in Sydney should be like. Rooms are basic but well designed with a few small, thoughtful touches that make the space more welcoming and cosy including a comfortable bed. The rooms aren't super quiet given the location of the hotel and seemingly thin walls, but it's not rowdy or noisy at night. The staff are friendly and helpful and the location of The Ultimo is excellent. I stayed for a quick business trip in Sydney and will definitely be back again.

Very clean rooms. Ideally situated in Chinatown. As l have sensitive skin, l was told more than pleased with their shampoo and body washes. This is a dog friendly hotel. I don't have a dog, and it really wasn't a issue. Highly recommended.

Very well located, just a couple minutes walk from the lightrail and less than 10 minutes from Central Train Station. Lots of food options in the surrounding area too. The hotel itself was small but clean and well taken care of, and the rooms were well sized with a nice, spacious bathroom.

My partner, my dog and I stayed at The Ultimo Hotel for 11-nights after we were displaced from our home due to a fire. Lara and her team provided excellent hospitality, going above and beyond to accommodate us in a time of need. Our room was well appointed and clean, with a very large balcony. The hotel is in a bright and lively part of the city, with easy access to Darling Harbour, the CBD and Chinatown. There are several convenient public transport options close by. I highly recommend staying here if you visit Sydney, particularly if you are travelling with your pet.

Novel hotel located in an old converted building which has retained some of the character. However the rooms are on the small side and not helped by being over furnished and with furniture that's too big for the room e.g. the cupboard housing the fridge encroached into the doorway of the toilet! Also there's no space in the room to put any luggage and we struggled having two large suitcases! Good location, close to Chinatown and near to the tram L2 which takes you into the city and Circle Quay. Reception staff friendly and helpful.

Basic, small rooms in a great location in Chinatown. We booked the studio room thankfully - it was the size of a normal hotel room. Room didn't get serviced the first day partially my fault as I turned the housekeeper away when she knocked but subsequently asked reception if we could still have our room serviced when we went out at 1.30pm - unfortunately the message didn't get through and room wasn't cleaned. Some towels provided unfortunately didn't appear to be clean. Rooms can be a bit noisy on a weekend given location and sound travels through windows. Location is great - right in Chinatown opposite Paddy's market, and a short walk from the train station. Plenty of places to get food and go shopping!

Nice hotel but unfortunately the karaoke bar down stairs doesn't closed till the wee hours of the morning. Not great for a business trip. Room was nice but the walls are paper thin and could hear the people next door.. well.. you know. Staff were friendly. Place was immaculately clean. No idea why the staff blast music in the lobby in the morning. Kind of annoying but didn't want to kill their vibe if you know what I mean. Room service was great. Clean towels for days! I could use a towel for each limb and still have spare towels. Was unreal. Overall a good hotel - just ask for a room that isn't above the lobby or the karaoke bar or you'll reget it. Well priced place and having the markets across the road was pretty cool. Plenty to see there. 7.4 out of 10, would stay here again despite the flaws (no one is perfect) 😁😁😁

5 minute walk from Sydney Central Station. Arrived earlier than check in and was able to leave luggage in a secure area. Family room large and very clean. Room included a small fridge Bathroom very clean and with shower gel and shampoo. Location wise lots of small shops and 7 11 nearby. 10 minute stroll to darling Harbour lots of food options in that direction.

I really enjoyed my stay here while I was sightseeing Sydney for vacation. The price was very reasonable for a 4-night stay. The location couldn't have been any better, located right beside Market City and Chinatown with a huge variety of amazing restaurants to choose from. It was pretty quiet for the most part, except at one point when some employees in the hallway were being rowdy and I asked them to keep it down. My room was very clean. All the staff were friendly. The power went out toward the front of the room during my stay, but the staff were quick to address this. Overall, I would return.

This was a great value hotel. Right in Chinatown with easy access to central city. Loved the vibe, the service and the location. We had a large bright and lovely room.

An Exceptional Experience! My recent stay at The Ultimo Hotel in Sydney was truly delightful. From start to finish, our visit was a memorable one. The rooms were impeccably clean and provided all the comforts we needed. Plus, the hotel's prime location allowed us to explore the city's hotspots with ease, all within walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Ultimo Hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a fantastic stay in Sydney. Kudos to the team for making our visit so wonderful!

The Ultimo Sydney is conveniently located amongst the hustle and bustle of Chinatown Sydney. Close to public transport, eateries and within 20 mins walk to Darling Harbour and other scenic spots. My room was quite functional, a little lacking in cutlery with one teaspoon and nothing else. No microwave. A couple of tea, coffee and milk supplies, one coffee mug, a cup in the small bar fridge. No desk for working. A small side ‘table’ for eating. A few gnats flying about. The bathroom has no privacy since the door wont close and just slides open. No wardrobe, there are a few hangers and two hooks installed for clothing. My room had a weird smell on entry. Once you are inside and turn on the aircon that will dissipate. Either that or you just get use to the smell. I noticed the shower leaking onto the bathroom floor and consequently the carpet (after the fact). On return from an outing this afternoon. I noticed the smell again and raised it with reception. I asked for a new room so the shower didn't leak again if I was to use it. This is considerate, I mean…I could just be a dic*, use the shower and not give a damn, right? No matter, you can use the spare towels to absorb the leak. Anyhoo….I was advised they are ‘fully booked’ and she can send maintenance in the morning before my shower. Not sure if people are aware that most hotels can accommodate room issues with a reserve room depending on the staff dealing with it. So, yeah I didn't get a new room. I advise to ask for a room change if you are assigned room 230 until the issues are rectified.

A lot to like with the Ultimo. Great position just off George close to UTS and in Chinatown. Excellent but not snooty young staff. Only recently refurbished heritage building with good size lobby with a bench and power so it is possible to work without disturbing a sleeping partner. Bad news is that the rooms are Hong Kong small and the bedding towards the soft end of the spectrum. No food service but it is in the middle of a major restaurant area. Cheap coffee and cafe meal can be had at Chambers nearby and a 7 Eleven is only four shops away.

Maybe I just got unlucky with some crazy neighbours, but got I no sleep due to people banging and screaming all night (even through my earplugs). The walls on this place and the acoustics are terrible so if anyone on your floor is making a noise you’re going to hear it. Otherwise the bed was fine and check in and out was easy.

  • 3/5 Gail H. 2 years ago on Google
We stayed 3 nights at The Ultimo and found it all very good - comfortable and clean with a perfect location BUT we did have noise problems every night both from the balcony of the tavern opposite (till 6am Sunday morning and 2am and 3am the other mornings) plus we had to get up and speak to another guest at 2am for talking loudly outside our room.

  • 1/5 Jos S. 2 years ago on Google
TERRIBLE! I’ve travelled all over the world and I have no idea how this classified as a 4 star hotel. It would be 2 star in Europe. The bed is the most uncomfortable that I’ve ever slept in. I completely sunk into the mattress & couldn’t sleep all night. I also had neighbours upstairs smashing around on the paper thin ceiling until 1am. When I requested to cancel my reservation so that I could move hotels I was told that I had to pay for 2 nights of a 3 night stay despite only staying for one night. The manager blamed Booking.com’s policy but after speaking to Booking, I was told that it’s the hotel’s discretion. Normally I would have expected an apology from the hotel & a refund from the night that I stayed & had no sleep. Not the Ultimo, they charged for 2 nights saying that my booking was non refundable. What a mess. Don’t risk it. Avoid at all costs!!

We had a fantastic experience. The room and the bathroom were spotless clean. The beds were super cozy. We loved the pillows so much that I am now looking to buy the same one for my husband, who apparently had the best sleep at the hotel ever.

A modern, comfortable, boutique hotel nestled in the heart of the city, equipped for both short and long-term accommodation. Its close proximity allows you to enjoy having the convenience of a variety of food cuisines and shops at its doorstep, or just a 5 minutes walk to Darling Harbour.

  • 5/5 Megan C. 2 years ago on Google
Good hotel; decent price and very convenient location right opposite Paddy's Market. Short walking distance to a lot of restaurants and connections to transport. Staff are very accommodating with late check out request. For those who can't sleep with a bit of noise, then this might not be for you as the walls are quite thin and you can hear what the next room is doing and people on the streets.

The rooms are always very clean and tidy. We love being able to open the windows. Perhaps our mattress was a little tired. The team at reception are always lovely and happy to help, particularly with the instructions regarding parking on Thomas Street. We sometimes get there a little early and it is always great to be offered our room a little earlier, if it is ready. It is much appreciated. It is great to be able to pop down for a real coffee, but can you offer double shots, as our coffee was a little weak. I must remember to bring our keep cups next time, so not imposing more plastic on the world. I think it was our first time staying in a king size bed - which was great. If I could have anything, it would be a pillow menu. I struggle with what I describe as the 'head resistant' pillows, which play havoc with my ancient neck. We will return in the future as we always enjoy our stay, the friendly staff and friendly guests - as well as it representing great value for money.

From start to finish this hotel provided me with an amazing experience. From Lara helping me initially explaining the parking situation and helping me book the room. To Julia and Daphne helping me with random questions and making me feel like the hotel was my home. Really loved it here and I'll be bsck and I will be bringing my friends. Well done the ultimo management your staff are incredible!

6 stars if I could! Comfortable rooms, recently given a update. But the extra stars for service. Friendly staff at all times, but Lara went above and beyond when I left my car keys at the hotel. Life saver!!! Very grateful!!

Not too far from central station. Easy to walk to, around 5 minutes. We stayed one night. There were many different nearby to grab a meal. Our room was clean and welcoming. Staff were great! Definitely will stay here again if the occasion occurs.

Good location but didn't feel safe around the hotel, maybe better for couples not for families. Room is clean but corridors and room carpet a bit smelly!! Make sure you go to the right parking or you loose the deal of $24 per day as there is similar one in the same street

  • 3/5 Danny B. 2 years ago on Google
Room smelled like a wet dog, whole place needs a good clean- maybe leave the doors and windows open after cleaning. We were in a dog friendly room with the big astro turfed deck, but yeah dog hair and very smelly. Good location 👍

This is a boutique hotel in a mixed neighbourhood with interesting shops and restaurants. I knew the rooms might be smaller but wasn't prepared for how small they were along with the odd layout of the King room. There was a small table but if you need to work on your laptop, you'll have to go downstairs where there is a lounge area. I also wasn't sure about room service - garbage was picked up every day but the bed wasn't made or the room cleaned - this may have been because of COVID protocols, but there was no mention of this when I checked in. Many of the reviews seem to suggest the Ultimo is a nice change from the cookie-.cutter chains, but frankly I'll stick with the chains for the size and standard of service.

  • 2/5 B. R. 1 year ago on Google
First time staying at the Ultimo, fantastic location and updated bathroom despite being in a historical building. Staff were very helpful and friendly. It would've been a great experience but were woken by creepy crawly in bed! The staff promptly found another room to swap but it's next to the lift, which meant another restless night given the noise.

  • 5/5 Nina R. 1 year ago on Google
Very central hotel with everything you need and nothing you don't. Nicely renovated with super comfy beds and glorious pillows. If you book direct good espresso coffee is included free for the duration of your stay!! Excellent staff too!

  • 2/5 Stephen L. 1 year ago on Google
The hotel is in a great location. The room is clean but a little small and tight. Shower was of a good size, the reason for only 2 star was the room stunk of a musty smell. There must be a mould issue somewhere. Ruin the stay.

  • 4/5 Tracey T. 1 year ago on Google
First visit here, rooms clean great bathroom, friendly helpful staff. The room did not have any wine glasses. I would recommend they get some wine glasses. Overall would stay here again. Particular if I can get it for a good price. Close to China Town so if you like Asian food you have a big choice.

  • 3/5 Chandran G. 1 year ago on Google
Location: Excellent - middle of Chinatown, close to trams and central station. Room: We had a duo room but the child's room was too small to fit our travelling cot (as it already had a single bed in there). We had to put the cot in the space between 2 rooms. The air conditioning/heating temperature could not be adjusted from the room which was surprising. Only a small window which made ventilation for fresh air challenging. Service: Clean rooms, daily cleaning of rooms and bathrooms.

  • 5/5 Garry L. 2 years ago on Google
Arrived early, about 11.30am, went to the hotel to cloak bags and was told that our room was already ready - what a bonus after three hours of travel. Front of house staff were very friendly and efficient (a credit to the hotel). The room shape was quirky (as expected in an old refurbished building). It was newly renovated, modern and nicely decorated. Everything was very clean (except that I did find a long black hair on one of the towels - no problem, these things happen and the towel did smell freshly washed). Overall, a very pleasant stay in a well run, clean, well located hotel.
