    i went there to get a quick lunch before catching my flight. from the beginning i didn’t feel welcome. the waiter made a joke that if i don’t speak french i can just go, which wasn’t really funny. then he started to explain the menu and when i told him i don’t like oysters, he said that i shouldn’t interrupt him. in the end i wanted to order just a starter (shrimps), because i wasn’t very hungry, didn’t have much time and there was nothing interesting from the main courses. he said that i can’t to do this, i have to order main course or starter plus main course. when i asked why, he said because he says so. after a moment of shock i decided to leave and he didn’t even bother to say goodbye. no idea if food is good, but service terrible.

    This place is great. They serve amazing seafood menu that are tasty and down to earth. It feels like you’re inside a fish shop (I suppose it used to be a fish shop?) with many fish decorations inside. The service was friendly though we didn’t have any reservation (do book! They are very popular). One star down because the food was very slow to come out from the kitchen, I suppose it was busy day for them

    This is a unique restaurant in central Marseille. It's a tiny place, like a "box if sardines" as the name appropriately suggests, but from the decor to the few dishes all made of fresh fish, it's pretty unique. The prices are reasonable and the ingredients are fresh and of quality. Highly recommended!

Alors que des tables a coté étaient arrivés a heures décalé et les personnes qui etaient la avant nous etaient toujours attablé. C'est vraiment un scandale juste parce que nous n'avons "pas assez consommé" a leur gout mais avec une note de 66euros tout de même. Meme lorsque nous allons a la caisse dame froide et très antipathique. Bref, c'est la dernière fois que nous mettrons les pieds dans ce restaurant...

    A local restaurant picking fresh seafood daily as ingredients. Terrific and lovely settings. Though they only open few hours a day but you should come here for seafood in Marseilles. We ordered their special made anchovies, clams, fish & chips and monk fish. Fish & chips is not fillet as usual we have, but three piece of whole fish. I would say “Must try” 😊

    I'm going to give 5 stars because our starters were wonderful. Main courses were very good but not quite at the same level but the overall experience for our lunch was fantastic. The co-owner Fabian brought the menu boards to us and went through our options and described how he has 3 different fishermen who supply their catch to him. We settled on 6 oysters, the tuna tartare and a stuffed sardine type dish. All three were fantastic. I'm talking our minds were kind of blown as we ate the tuna tartare- best I've ever had. The mains were really good but we didn't love them quite as much. Their fish and chips were small fried fish that were partially filet'd and they came with a polenta like "chip" instead of French fries. We would definitely return for lunch again. I would suggest making reservations since their supplies of fish are limited to what is fresh. Oh and the light dessert was simple and flavorful- a sheep/ goat milk cheese that was very subtle with a strawberry sauce enveloping it. Lovely.

    I had a wonderful lunch here! The food is fresh (seafood caught that morning!), simple and delicious. The chef is passionate about his cooking as he comes by and describes the daily menu. Highly recommend!!

    Great local food experience, working only from 12 to 15, they are serving fresh morning fish and everyday menu can be changed. We tasted oysters, fresh anchovi (highly reccomend), razor clams and sardines. By the way, despite the name of the restaurant, sardines were not the best thing, fresh, as everything here, but a bit borring, comparing to clams or anchovi. A bit expencive wine, but for lunch with 0.5 cassis white wine we paid about 70€, its average. Will reccomend to visit if you're in Marseille.

    A couple of weeks before visiting, we had arranged a reservation via email and the boss Fabien replied and accepted it. However, he never wrote it down in the daily schedule. So, we were forced to sit outside. But the smell from the street was so horrible and was impossible for a person to eat! Also, they did not have any sardines or octopus at all, while we saw that other people were eating sardines at that time! The menu was written on some woods and there were not any menus to read. Maybe their fish is of good quality, but the rudeness of the boss and waitress turned us away... Overall: I would totally NOT recommend it if you want to have a good restaurant experience in Marseille!

    One of the worst experiences of our life in restaurants. The owner/ waiter obviously hates his customers and is an arrogant and extremely rude person. You are not allowed to ask a question because you (the customer) are “lucky to be here” and “he is very busy”. We walked out, unfed and unwatered. He should be out of business.

    Be aware of their pricing on their whole fish for 2 people. My husband arrived at 1pm ( one hour after they opened)and were told they ran out of everything except their whole fish for 2 people. The price on the menu said 18 euro. We waited an hour to be served and noticed many people coming in after us and being served food that we were told was no longer available. In addition, everyone was served bread with their meal except us. These other people appeared to be locals. We had the whole fish for 2 people and 2 glasses of their white wine at 6 euro a glass. Our bill was 92 euro. It ends up we were charged 18 euro per kg per person for the fish. The meal was just ok, nothing special. The whole experience was troubling especially considering the wonderful reviews this restaurant has on the internet.

    Quirkily decorated place dishing out fresh seafood in unique ways. The sea anemone and the sardine balls were my favorite part of the menu and they have great wines to pair. One staff understands English very sparsely so come prepared. If you’re more than one traveler, you should try their whole fish that they cook

    Lovely experience here! The chef clearly cares and is invested in the food, as he walks to each table to describe the menu for the day! All the fish is fresh and locally caught. Everything I ate was bright and beautiful! Came in for lunch on a Friday and was able to grab a seat, imagine it gets busier on the weekends. Also super cute inside!

    What a horrible experience! We are from NYC and had only a few hours stop in Marseille during our French road trip, so we decided to make a stop in this restaurant. crazy!, at start, the owner was kind enough to say that he would accommodate you even if busy so I thought, yay great start! But then when we got there, in addition to being in an unsafe area, struggling for parking, I found him to be verbally abusive and way too loud to his customers ( and I'm French speaking! ) if you dare not ordering as many dishes as the number of your party, you will be yelled at! Two american girls were yelled at and left upset without ordering. Secondly, I wanted to order sardines for my husband the reason we drove 1hr for, yelled that my hubby should be here to hear the orders (well i know what he wanted while he was parking!!) . Well guess what, after he took care of his regular guests and gave them what they needed, there were no sardines available for us. So we tried to compromise and order 3 other dishes for us 2 adults and 2 kids under 7. We were then being told it's not enough as an order! If you want people to order the dish the want, make them available, or better yet let us order them when we first did! We left without eating, wasted a trip to Marseille, a lunch and starving kids. I'm sure they are many places in MArseille with great seafood and someone who will not treat you like this! Huge disappointment!! This is not south hospitality I know believe me!

    Fabien was an absolute gent. Made some jokes and very lively. It is well worth making a reservation beforehand. Food is fresh from the fish market daily so the menu changes. I love how the menu is explained to us in English and the enthusiasm throughout the service. You can see the establishment is proud of what they offer and based on what we ate they have every right to be. Thank you other than getting my name on the reservation wrong everything else was 110%

    Nice lunch but not worth the wait. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the food was good but for the price I'd expect better service. I wasn't offered anything to drink other than the water on the table. My meal had clearly been forgotten, it took over 40 minutes for my simple dish of fried anchovies to appear. Two tables of four on either side of me came ate and left before my food arrived.

    Dream seafood restaurant! We were quickly greeted by the owners who made us feel at ease by slipping into both english and spanish without fuss. Given a choice of shared table inside or outside, we plumped for the shade indoors amongst the vibrant maritime paraphernalia that covers the walls and ceiling and makes this place truly visually unique. The playful decor reflects the staff who are lively, cheerful and friendly, moving constantly between the tables. Soon Mr. Boîte was reading us the small daily menu (all of which simple, robust and thoroughly tempting), sourced from his friends, the local fishermen whose catch he buys each day. He joked with us in english, took our order and soon returned with our beautiful natural wine. We ordered 3/4 of the menu and it came quickly- fresh light and tender marinaded anchovies, little silver mackerel in a blanket of mustard sauce and divine sardine fritters with herby tomato salsa to accompany. All came with what i think was little potato fritters for mopping the copious and delicious juices from each dish (mopping is perhaps my greatest culinary pleasure). We demolished our beautiful food embarassingly quickly but ended up chatting with our table neighbour, fortuitously english speaking and friendly, who offered us her razor clams (also excellent) to try. Suddenly we were the last table there and it was time to pay. We left full, pleasantly tipsy and smiling. I hope to return and strongly advise anyone seeking unpretentious truly fresh seafood in a unique and intimate environment to visit too.

    One of the single best meals we had while in France. Who I assume was the owner read the menu from a chalk block, personally for us in English. Was jovial and recommended a sampling from the menu. He brought out an incredible assortment of some of the freshest, most deliciously and simply prepared fish I've ever eaten. I am not what you would consider a fish person, but every thing was so delicious. We all cleaned our plates and shared everything family style. Such a wonderful restaurant and excellent experience.
