An old Japanese house of a wealthy family. Wouldn't imagine such a place existed in such a small town. Worth the visit.

Sairi Yashiki is an old Japanese businessman's home of the traditional architecture with multiple stone warehouses, a stone bath house turned museum. They have many family treasures exhibited in the each of the buildings. One Meiji era styled house has a model of the ancient town of Marumori exhibited on the second floor. Various special events are held there during the year. The event today was a performance by the traveling international Tohoku Art Circus 2019 with 22 artists from 12 countries in coordination with the Marumori Japanese Traditional Drum Troupe. I took my 6 children for an international cultural experience. During the week, from Tuesday through Sunday, 9:00AM ~ 5:00 PM, the Sairi Yashiki is open to the public as a museum of traditional/historical artifacts and home items. The buildings themselves are beautiful Japanese construction - art in itself. There is ample parking for cars and tourist buses within three minutes walking distance from the museum.

Very pretty place. The entrance fee was around 600 yen. There were so many dolls!! The place is very well kept and inside the main hall, there is an old man who grilled mochi for us and told us about the history of the dolls. The place also has a museum on the history of the occupants of the house. No English support is provided though.

Very small village where this is the only tourist attraction, apart from the small farmers market opposite. Interesting site though.

The festival was a blast, but other than that it needs more to attract tourists.

(Translated by Google) The site of a wealthy merchant's mansion that has been in business for seven generations since the late Edo period. It is said that it is called Sairi because the head of the family for generations called himself Risuke. He ran a business in Marumori until 1950, after which he moved to Sendai and donated his land and house to the town. Admission fee is 620 yen. I was wondering if it would be a weekday and there would be no people so I could take my time. It was cloudy, but it was hot inside the brewery, and I was drenched in sweat☀️😵💦 This time of year, it's painful to wear a mask. I almost got a heat stroke. I think it's better after it cools down.
