I
visited
it
in
September
of
2021.
As
the
timing
was
good,
the
main
statue
of
the
11-faced
Kannon
Bodhisattva,
which
is
normally
unveiled
once
every
12
years,
was
being
specially
unveiled
to
pray
for
relief
from
the
epidemic.
The
sculpture
was
very
simple,
as
if
it
were
made
by
a
local
Buddhist
sculptor
from
the
Heian
period.
In
addition
to
the
main
image,
there
are
many
other
Buddha
statues
enshrined
in
the
main
hall,
making
it
a
must-see.
The
temple
itself
is
located
on
a
small
hill,
but
the
path
from
the
reception
desk
near
the
parking
lot
to
the
main
gate
is
quite
steep
and
has
quite
a
number
of
steps
(I
remember
there
being
some
steep
flat
slopes).
If
you
are
in
a
bad
condition,
you
may
have
no
choice
but
to
give
up
on
visiting
the
shrine.
The
precincts
at
the
top
of
the
steep
stairs
are
not
very
large,
but
there
are
six
buildings
arranged
in
a
tight
space:
Sanmon,
Bell
Tower,
Three-Storied
Pagoda,
Enma-do,
Daishi-do,
and
Main
Hall.
The
main
hall
and
three-storied
pagoda
are
roofed
with
copper,
and
everything
else
is
thatched.
It
has
an
atmosphere
rich
in
history,
reminiscent
of
a
large
local
temple.
The
most
famous
one
is
probably
the
seated
statue
of
King
Enma
in
Enma-do
Hall.
The
door
to
Enmado
was
not
open,
but
the
lattice
in
the
front
was
slightly
open,
and
I
was
able
to
peer
through
it
and
get
a
good
view
of
the
statue.
