Not many people know about this exceptionally fine museum in the city of Mathura, if you love history then do visit. Be sure to allow lots of time to visit the It and go early. It is huge and it takes a while to get from one gallery to another. The size of collection of impressionist art is great, and the special exhibit on gardens is wonderfully organized. However, some of the lighting is not as good as other well known museums. Maps provided don't have enough information to help find special exhibits but it’s worth the effort if you can plan for a long visit. Also please don’t forget to see the oldest status of lord Gautam Buddha, an old standing statue of Buddha in its premises. It has statues, metal artefacts and many more. Although it’s premises are huge but the fees are not too high. You will find everything which has been kept in the museum and have been found in Mathura only. All said it’s an excellent museum.

Being a Government museum, I wasn't sure about the quality of the display and the nature of the exhibits. However, this is, without any doubt, one of the best museums, Government or otherwise, that I've visited. It is a display of artifacts that have been obtained from excavations, some of them dating back a millenium. Each and every exhibit has been numbered, tagged and it's provenance and details explained in both Hindi and English. The entrance fee is just ₹ 5 and mobile photography ₹ 20

The true historical value of a place can only be determined by the artifacts found at the place. This museum have many artifacts from @mathura and nearby places. This museum adds knowledge to the intellectuals who look beyond the religious value of this region. There are many sculptures which are more than 2000yrs old. The entry ticket along with camera is also very reasonable. This place needs to be more advertised to give people and kids knowledge about our great culture and heritage.

Good place! Tickets are extremely reasonably priced. You need to pay a little extra, to get the permission for clicking pictures. There are a lot of sculptures and antiques that you'll see here. If that is something which attracts your interest, then you can spend a lot of time in this place. One area which needs improvement is... involvement of the officials sitting there. Rather than simply sitting in a place, they should take initiative and interact with visitors and guide them about the place, idols and other things kept here. If you are planning to visit Mathura, then you must definitely keep this place in your itinerary.

Mathura State Museum is a least visited place in Mathura city. It is a treasure trove for its unique collection of Gandhara style of sculptures. It houses a rare Kanishka statue; besides many Buddha, Surya and Vishnu statues.

The museum has a good collection of artifacts unearthed from sites around Mathura and depicts the art and architecture of Mathura region. A history and architecture buffs can spend easily a day and other enthusiasts can easily spend 3-4 hours. For the regular tourists, one can complete the visit in under an hour and still be in awe and appreciate the collection.

This is an excellent location for studying Indian artefacts and ancient lifestyles. Antique clothing, various decorations, hair-dressing equipment, and other unique household objects are among a few materials on display in this museum. The impressionist painting collection and the special display spread over the gardens is well-organized. In addition, there are well-laid site maps to help you understand the layout of the museum and the places different types of artefacts are located. The entry fee is INR 5 for Indian Adults and INR 2 for Indian children. The fee for international tourists is INR 25. You have to pay an additional fee of INR 20 if you want to carry a camera. The museum is open from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays.

It houses a lot of priceless treasures dating thousands of years back in time. Try to read the description kept at each exhibit to understand the value better. It also houses the urns in which the mortal remains of Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were kept once.

The mention of sculpture of mathura Museaum can be found in most of history and archeology books Mathura a city which has a great history of Jains, Hindus, and Buddhism for an extendeperiodme, gives it very diverse religious and cultural references. In mathura museum, artifacts from 3-4 thousand years old are on display, and they are enough to keep the history buff inside you entertained .

(Translated by Google) I went to see the Mathura-style Buddha statue here, and there was a clay figurine of King Hephthalite, which was excavated in Shibayama, Chiba prefecture, and two melons. A pointed hat with a rim, a long beard, a beard, a belt, and pointed boots. Is it different that the clothes had a leopard print pattern? Hephthalites, also known as white dung. Both Xiongnu and the descendants of Mr. Otsuki. In short, it is a horse race. Well maintained statues. Lighting was not bad. Detailed explanation of the period of collection, place of collection, name of statue was mentioned but it has to be refurbished to make it clear. Worth spending 45 min to 1 hour with children. Take snacks with you as there are no shops nearby. Mobile phones are allowed with extra ticket.

A museum to be in your list if you are a history seeker and you are visiting Mathura. You can educate yourself with lot of stone and clay sculptures made mainly during the second to tenth century AD. As said, the shelves are majorly of stone/clay sculptures and has a brief description of the same, so to make it really fruitful, you have to go one after the other, reading and understanding each, which only a seeker will be interested to. I enjoyed as I love to learn our history, but for a non historical seeker, the place may look bit boring and odd. There is an entry fee of Rs 5 per person (2021). There is ample car parking space available. The place was really calm due to less foot fall. And the place is really maintained clean !

Out of my experience from 26 countries museums, the artefacts kept here are extraordinary! Some are even 4000 years old. I extremely loved the collection here from different kingdoms in India. Even met some Chinese tourists who were visiting this place to k ow about Buddha relics. They had everything from Kushana to Kalinga. Amazing to see the works done at that time, maybe we have forgotten the essence of culture in our built structures how we are building them just like boxes. As an architect, I do not like the design of this museum and as Indians do, it was almost zero maintenance, I feel a lot can be done in this place to attract people. We should specifically learn from Rome or how museums are being kept in Florence which I visited last year. We have more character but less respect of such things.

I love museums ! And visiting Mathura Museum was on my list for some time. The museum although was quite small, it did not disappoint. It's artefacts set it apart from other museums. The place is majorly a goldmine of Kushana and Shunga Empire time period. Also, it gives you a perspective on the Vaishnava sect as it has perhaps the earliest representations of Vishnu's Dhashavtars (which surprisingly are missing, Buddha and Krishna). What surprised me even more was the Admission Fees, that was 5 Rupees only (yes). But I guess it's because if the place it's in. If you are a History buff and are in Mathura by any chance, DO NOT miss this place. It's a hidden gem.
