Alessandro truly cares about your development as a grappler. Alessandro is attentive, welcoming, and dedicated. What I really loved about this school, was the focus on conditioning which I've always believed makes true competitors throughout any discipline. Alessandro is a successful competitor and you can see why...and I am convinced he will develop successful competitors. I would love to have Alessandro as my main instructor and I will be coming back to visit Checkmat Colombia whenever i am in Medellin. Lo recomiendo!

I have trained at almost every academy in Medellin so far and I am a really big fan of the head instructor at this gym. The instructor has a very deep knowledge and the technique he demonstrates is top notch. The people who train here are friendly and open. Highly recommend! (PLUS Acai Bowls!!)

I messaged Alessandro the ower or checkmat in Medellin for privates. He was professional, and super chill. The cost was very reasonable, but his teaching methods were outstanding. I have received about a total of 4 private lessons from other instructors in San Diego, and Alessandro’s was by far the best. I did a drop in at his academy, and it was a great class. Lots of traditional warm ups, that my gym normally doesn’t do but is necessary. His students were beasts, and his brown belt that was teaching he taught some clean techniques. Was just walking to the gym when I stumbled upon this place.. Turned out well because I was looking to do some sort of martial art and it's close to where I live. The instructor has tons of experience and is an international BJJ champion so he knows his stuff. I feel like I am learning a lot rather quickly even if my Spanish/Portuguese aren't perfect. If you are in the Laureles area or just looking for a place to train BJJ, I would recommend Checkmat and Maestro Nagaishi. And try their acai bowl!

Excellent gym! Very welcoming people, great technics from one of top ranked IBJJF Black Belt competitors. I love that the classes are 1.5hours, not just 1hour like in other places. Nice and clean gym with great infrastructure, you can borrow a Gi if you need and enjoy great Acai Bowls after training :-)
