Stone sculpture Head of Joseph Beuys by Anatol

Tourist attraction

😠 Nice environment. Beautifully scenic. Only the ugly Steinkopp is really out of place here. I would have hidden it on an Erft Island! People often mention sculpture, Beuys,

The stone sculpture Beuys Head stands on a footpath right next to the Mönchenwerth restaurant in Düsseldorf. The sculpture by artist Antol Herzfeld was erected in July 2009 and weighs over 2 tons. To view, park in the restaurant parking lot.

Great sculpture by Anatol (a master student of Beuys) for the 35th anniversary of the art campaign "Heimholung" from October 20th, 1973. The city of Düsseldorf did not want to erect the sculpture at the historical location of the action in Oberkassel in 2008, as it was considered a protest event to mark the anniversary of Joseph Beuys' expulsion from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1972 by Johannes Rau (then Minister of Science). Beuys was convinced that there was no need for an admissions process to study and in 1971 he accepted 142 previously rejected students into his class. After his expulsion in 1972, Beuys complained to the Federal Labor Court until 1980. There was a settlement in which Beuys was allowed to keep his studio at the art academy until he was 65. In this studio, Beuys opened the office of his “Free International University,” which he founded in 1973. Anatol founded the “Freie Akademie Oldenburg” (previously “Moorakademie”) in 1975.

Beuys' somewhat grim look is fascinating. Düsseldorf has lost the chance to have this sculpture.

Nice sculpture. The inscription on the side says: "Every person is an artist. Joseph Beuys".

You can like the sculpture, but you don't have to... I do not like her. But luckily it's purely a matter of taste.

A great work of art, the eyes are made of polished stone

The stone sculpture stands on the side of the path with a view of the Rhine. There is text engraved on her right side, but I couldn't read it. Otherwise there is no board with a description attached. I found it a bit small. Would have found it quite nice with direct seating and a view of the Rhine. There is seating a little further away. The meaning and purpose as well as the material and the artist were not clear to me. Still a little change on the walk.

🫤 Phew - I can't understand all the good reviews. 4€/adult is ok. Except for a few goats and (when they are not being prepared for riding) a few ponies that you can get closer to. Otherwise, guinea pigs, rabbits etc. where you have to keep your distance. The “playgrounds” are not only unattractive, bu...
