This is a true Mexican national treasure. What an experience. But it is best to visit the original, as there are 3 in Mexico City. While the churros are amazing, the ice cream malts are also very good. One of the high points of our visit was to simply watch the business operations of the place. Someone really knows what they are doing. Note that the churrow de muerto (churros of death) have purple sugar on them which comes only once a year just before and during El Día de los Muertos, each November 1 and 2. I believe they are served all during October. The black sanding sugar on the churrows has a light orange flavor and are to die for! (pun intended). Highly recommended.

12 churros is too many for two people. I’d recommend 4 for two people. These fresh churros are so delicious. The staff were all very nice. We took ours to-go, and the line was short.

A Classic must-visit in Mexico City. The churros are equally sweet and salty and the hot chocolates are delicious as well. Came here with some friends from all over the world and they loved the atmosphere and the churros.

The OG El Moro (since 1935!), a great spot to snack amongst all the Centro Historico sites. Churros are solid, but if had to do it again would order the chocolate, francesa style, not the Mexican style as it was more watery. Pro tip: this location also serves tacos and tortas that can be ordered in the little kiosk next to the front door (def order the pastor and skip the chicken mole).

If you’re in Mexico City and the churro craving strikes, look no further than Churrería El Moro!!! Their churros are fresh & so delicious. We also ordered the “Mexicano” chocolate for dipping but I think I would’ve preferred a thicker type of chocolate. The Mexicano one was a very thin consistency similar to hot chocolate that you drink & I was expecting more of a sauce. Overall the churros were excellent though and I would definitely recommend this place! The service was a little slow but they were extremely busy at the time we went so keep that in mind!

We we’re lucky to get a table during a peak time. The service was quick and the churros and chocolate combo was super tasty! The churros are served in a good portion so it’s makes it easy to share.

Standing in line sucked and isn’t worth it but this is the original location I guess. The food is comparable to the other locations. I got 4 churros with the condensed milk dip and they were pretty good. Kind of bland even with the dip so I recommend getting a drink to stuff them down. Portions are generous. Thought the churros were comparable to the ones in Madrid

A big part of coming here is for the experience - a taste not only of great churros and millshakes, but also of history. There are a few branches around town and they all sport the same blue and white icons on tiles look. Simple and elegent. The same can be said of what they serve. Simple yet tasty churros. The prices are slightly higher than what you can get elsewhere esp. from street vendors, but not unreasonable to push you away from visiting one or a few times. For most people, perhaps 2 sticks of churros might be just the right amount on one sitting. The sets come in orders of 4, but they will provide a paper bag to bring home leftovers, so don’t be shy to ask!

I stumbled upon this place by accident. I had no idea that this is so famous. Now I’ve had tons of churros in Spain. And this here in Mexico was excellent! It was hot and crunchy. It was perfection. There are different choices for hot chocolate. I had no idea what the differences were so I chose the Mexicano one. It was very good. I also enjoyed seeing the staff making the churros. The guy who was putting the churros into the bags for everyone was kind enough to give little short ones to everyone for free. It was nice.

We decided to try the place out since there was no queue and it was quite empty. The place gets very busy in the evening as it’s open very late. I would never wait in line to get in. It’s a very traditional place serving churros however, so if you like churros and are visiting Mexico City you probably should make a stop here. Churros are quite cheap whereas chocolate is overpriced in my opinion. The menu also does not make much sense, you can order a bundle of 4 churros for 200 pesos or 1 churro for 50 pesos, what is the point of a bundle? I’m not a massive fan of churros in general, but I have eaten way better ones in Portugal. I found churros here way too thin so you are mostly eating the fried layer on top. The chocolate is also way too sweet so you end up eating sweet fried dough with sugar on top and then dip it in the over sweet chocolate. Absolutely no balance in flavour.

Extremely beautiful decor and decorations right now as it leads up to November. I had the chocolate Mexicano frío which was flavourful without being heavy. The churros came with caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. The chocolate was my preferred of the two. I definitely want to go back to try more of the menu.

A line out the door is usually a good indicator of quality, and this delightful churreria is no exception. The line for takeout was much shorter, and moved very quickly - no more than 5 minutes once inside. We got 8 churros total, half cinnamon and half regular sugar, plus a large Mexicana hot chocolate. Note that 8 churros is a lot for two people - 4 or 6 would be ideal for a snack. I wasn’t expecting them to be so heavy! The exterior was crunchy and the interior was just cooked, dense and chewy. The Mexicana hot chocolate was awesome and totally different from the Canadian style - spiced and relatively light at first sip, but with a heavy chocolate punch to finish. A killer spot!

These are your average churros - nothing special, but they weren’t bad. I don’t think they were worth the wait in line though. I bought them to go, but the dine in area looked very charming.

Not the greatest churro and chocolate I’ve ever had. It was okay. We had 2 coffees, 4 churros, a regular sized chocolate with tip it was $16 USD. If you have been to Spain you will be highly disappointed. If you have no frame of reference then I guess you would enjoy it.

This is the original El Moro. Didn’t eat at this location but stopped by to buy some of their merch. You get in line to order and pay for what you’d like, and then another employee gets the items for you. We bought some tote bags, which the employee had us inspect to make sure we were satisfied with the quality of each.

The churros here are always fresh, featuring a crunchy outer shell from being deep fried with a contrasting warm doughy and chewy core. The churro is shaped to maximize surface area in order to attract the most amount of sugar, which carries the flavor of the snack. Eat it when it’s warm with a hot chocolate: the España is so strong and thick it’s a perfect dip for the churros and they even warn me about it sometimes before I get it. They always slide in an extra piece or two too: once after a filling dinner I only ordered one piece as a dessert, but the attendant slid 3 into my bag before giving me a wink.

Excellent service, friendly staff, and delicious food. The churros we're fresh and delicious and the special hot chocolate was the perfect drink to pair it with.

I can see why this place has such great reviews. We visited at a fairly busy time on a mid-week evening and were seated very quickly. There is a queue on the right for takeaway and the left to eat in. The menu is quite small and also has an English translation for everything. We got 4 churros, mini churros, a milkshake, chocolate sauce and condensed milk sauce. Everything was spectacular. My favourite were the churros with the condensed milk dip but my husband loved the bite sized churros with the chocolate dip - given we couldn't decide I think you will realise how good it all was. It was a lot of food and we took the rest to go. It looked like mostly people ordered churros and a milkshake (4 different varieties of milkshakes). Everything comes very quickly, the staff are very good. Highly recommend. Not fancy but it was great!

I was super excited to try this place! The service here was great, the young lady was very attentive and sweet. The menu here is short and simple! The order came out super quick and the chocolate and shake was delicious!!!! The churros had a different flavor but they were good.

Best original place to get churros and hot chocolate in it's different versions, also we tried for the first time the horchata milk shake...amazing!! Try mid week off peak hours to avoid the local crowds, which is a great indicator.

This place will always be one of the top places to eat churros. After 5pm it begins to be very full, same time at 10-11am. Lower demand is all other hours. Make sure you are on the correct line if you want to dine in. The parking will have to be on any public parking lots that has cost of 25-30 px mx per hour. Although the place is loud due to the constant movement of the waiters, and restaurant, this place is quite a jewel for a date or family time. We spent less than 150 px mx per person.

I recommend this place just for the experience of it. Food 3/5 Service 4/5 Price 3/5 The churros to me tasted salty, dry, hard and old. If you are used to the street churros or the Californian churros don't expect this wants to be in taste the same. They do not come with brown sugar and cinnamon powder and they are not fluffy inside. I'm not saying they are not good but it's just not churros some of us are used to.

The trip to CDMX would not be complete without a visit to the legendary Churrería El Moro. Naturally, the churros did not disappoint; pairing them with cajeta and an earthy cup of Café de Olla was interstellar. The customer service was spotty, it took a while to get some service waving down several waiters. Enjoy the history throughout the restaurant while you wait for your churros and expect it to be pretty busy when visiting, rightfully so.

  • 4/5 Zachary D. 4 months ago on Google
Pretty quick service for somewhere this popular, with delicious churros and a tasteful decor inside and out. It was cheap for what it was, great milkshake and hot chocolate too. We dined it because the take-away queue was massive so we actually got served quicker. The service was direct and efficient, not the most personal or friendly though. Would recommend for the food!

Imo, churro in South America (or just in Cuba and Mexico) is way better than the one in North America. It is not as hard, more airy. Here, they have 3 different sugar coatings: muerto (black, in honor of dia de los muertos, not sure what is in it), normal (just sugar), and sugar with cinnamon. We order hot choco to dip churros in, but the drink is not that good; it's kinda bitter and has no vanilla taste although we order vanilla hot chocolate. On google map, the closing time is 12am, but people still come in 30m after. The wait is ridiculously slow even when the place is not crowded at all; it takes the server 30m to take our order despite our multiple attempts of asking for someone.

Whenever I’m in Mexico City I give El Moro another try but I’m beginning to think I’ll never learn my lesson about the churros and chocolate. I mean, they try; they really do. But the churros are bitter and salty, and the chocolate (I chose Spanish style-“thick and sweet”) mealy and sweet: cloyingly sweet. Go, if you must, and you might even enjoy it. Or, get a turkey mole torta, a milkshake, coffee or tea. You have options and I should explore those as well. As for service and atmosphere the servers are fairly attentive in their old fashioned blue and white attire; it’s clean and attractive inside with tiled walls and marble topped tables. You could do much worse I suppose.

Since 1935, they have been serving wonderful hot Churros covered in Cinnamon or Sugar and Hot Thick Chocolate in México City. Visiting this store is like a trip to the past with waitresses dressed in blue uniform and a decoration reminiscent of the mid 1900. A great experience if you are close to the Zócalo!

I’m so glad we made this a must stop on day one of our vacation because we went back several times over the 2 weeks visit! These are the best Churros I’ve ever had. Served hot, fresh and crispy with a warm soft center. It was a lot of fun watching them be made too. The staff was super nice and friendly and hands out samples as you wait in line. 😁 Don’t forget to get a dipping sauce!

Churros are ok but Spain chocolate is from another world, Of course you need to be able to accept really sweet and thick chocolate to bare the shock of this sweet treat. There are other options and are available Mexican chocolate too. You can order your churros with cajeta chocolate or condensed milk.
