A lovely place to be if you like astronomy. Historic building. Still in use by faculty staff; astronomy and science. Small exhibition. Observatory on top floor (only accessible via small stairs). Impressive library. Some fun educational sets for children. Improvements have been made for visitors who are blind or visually impaired. Small place, but accessible. Friendly staff. No accessible toilet. Accessible parking rather close by. Recommended to visit together as the way to the entrance is a bit steep.

Great place to spend the afternoon. Lots of educational opportunities with nice volunteers (Thanks Koon!). Also if you have a museum card, it’s free!

Cosy museum. On Sundays they do observing of the sun. Especially worthwhile if it’s sunny weather. They have a lovely set of telescopes. And a beautiful mechanical planetarium. You can get a tablet that has information and interactive apps in the museum. The volunteers are very enthusiastic and love to answer all your questions. On rainy days they offer a planetarium show in a half dome where they project the night sky. A very nice experience as well. If you have a museum card you can just walk in!

Amazing observatory! Great place to visit if you are interested in astronomy. The collection is mainly focused on solar astrophysics and the important role that the university of Utrecht played in this. The old observatory is build on a bastion (defense work) which you can look at below. Also there used to be a botanical garden at the top. There are many nice telescopes in the observatory and there is a very nice library. On Sunday at 14:00 and 15:30 you can look through the solar telescopes. The museum accepts museumcard.

Interesting place filled with history. From a defence wall part to modern telescopes. One can see it in 2 hours with a slow pace.

A small but fine museum. Unfortunately it was not possible to actually see the operating telescope.

(Translated by Google) Great fun, even in corona time! (Was there just before 3rd December lockdown). Surprising because it is both an old castle and a place with scientific history. Even if you are only interested in one of the two, it is fun to visit. (Original) Superleuk, zelfs in coronatijd! (Was er net voor de 3e lockdown van december). Verrassend omdat het zowel een oude burcht is als een plek met wetenschappelijke historie. Zelfs als je slechts in 1 van beide bent geïnteresseerd is het leuk om te bezoeken.

Awesome observatory!! Loved it. The history. For stargazing, you need to book a month in advance (check the website). For museum, tickets are available all the time. They also provide a handy tablet for tour which is included in the ticket. Even the visually disabled people can visit. They provide a guide.

Small but very informative museum located in a quiet park not far from the other museums. A must visit if you're keen on astronomy - they've got a huge telescope!

(Translated by Google) One of the coolest locations of Utrecht on the water. Easy to reach parking nearby & bike next door. Good party location & people are amazed. A special place and even with a small group it looks cozy here. Multiple rooms so if the music is not to your liking you get a gin and you will watch the dance floor from above;) (Original) Een van de gaafste locaties van Utrecht aan het water.

A hidden gem in Utrecht. Went there with friends on Friday night and we saw the moon using the telescope. We loved the Planetarium as well, the person there was informative and we just had an enjoyable and insightful conversation regarding space, greek mythology, and fun hypothetical questions. The persons at the front desk were friendly and helpful as well. They also have unique and affordable souvenirs.

Lovely museum for those interested in space and the solar system. The museum itself isn't big and you could spend about an afternoon there. The staff and personnel are friendly and helpful

It's not really big but they have a nice interactive experience with a tablet. Especially the kids version is really cool. If visiting on a sunny day you can watch the sun through 2 of the telescopes.

(Translated by Google) I thought I was going to visit the website, but the website immediately took 100% processor time. For example, I cannot normally request information, since I immediately clicked away the website to prevent damage to the PC !!! A missed opportunity, since not everyone has the most advanced and fastest PC in the house.

It would have been almost perfect, if not my friend's jokes about skipping the line and breaking some XIX century tool for counting space and time and everything (So now this train goes straight to nowhere without even the possibility to decently figure out, where we are.) Oh, the nasi was good. Lovely museum! I definitely recommend. Couldn't stop touching the asteroid piece

It's tiny, but cute and cosy. I enjoyed this museum and hope to come back for a stargazing night some day. I like the educational interaction for children, too.

Not really into vegetarian however I enjoyed the food. Everything shown to use exosctually the sun through the Telescope and the planets and stars was just breathe taking.

In the center of Utrecht is Sonnenborgh. During daytime you can watch the sun (if not cloudy) and sometimes in the evening you can look at the moon. Thanks to the volunteers who make this possible in the evenings! But, it is mainly a museum about our universe. Certainly worth at to take a look and be amazed!

It's a great place to visit, if you like astronomy or the history of the city in general. The tickets are way overpriced for what you get. If you have small kids, it's worth it - only to guide them through an elementary cognizance of space exploration and science.

  • 5/5 Nazia M. 8 months ago on Google
I visited on a beautiful Sunday afternoon last weekend and bought a ticket at the door. Sanne at the front desk was a joy to talk with- the whole team are knowledgable, welcoming and friendly. Viewing the Sun through not one but two telescopes was wonderful. The highlight for me though, was the astounding library. Small but filled with a staggering selection of books on all things related to astronomy, I found copies of Sky and Telescope and Kosmos from many decades ago and books from the 1900s preserved beautifully and all available for visitors to read. I could have spent hours there just reading. A must visit for astronomy fans!

The old observatory is at a wonderful place, the building is amazing and there are nice things to see. We were there on a rainy day and attended the lecture. All was very messy, the beamer didn't work first, the lecture is on such a low level, that my daughters said: nothing new! We learned this already in primary school! And it's only in dutch. The museum has an enormous potential, I hope they can improve it!! Why not add for example something about star evolutions applied the sun? Or why not implement the problem of climate change? Science can be exciting, show it!!

Fun and engaging. Had some hands-on activities that was surprisingly enjoyable regardless of age. Interesting building, and the contents even more so. Likely to return as it made for a great start to a day out.

Greaaat experience! Besides that the place is very nice, we got to meet the staff, Mr. Rob and his fellow colleague, who introduced us to the telescope room and astrology knowledge as an extra unplanned thing done with such a kind intention from their side. They made our visit unique and we are so grateful for it!!

The observatory was really beautiful, and most of the original inventory was still there, which was super cool to look at! When you pay, you get handed a tablet, which makes the tour interactive, I think that I super cool, and makes the tour more fun. All in all a place worth visiting.
