Initial exhibition area at the front of the museum is a wide open and quite sparsely populated. But as soon as you get to the large "storage hall" in the back that is where all the hardware is stored. An excellent exhibit is the Lancaster that was dug up from the mud with all the pieces located as part of the fuselage. Other hardware is in great shape with loads of pieces from tanks trucks and planes.

One of the most beautiful and detailed war museums I have visited so far. The horrors of WW2 have been explained very well. Must do things when you visit are climbing inside a tank and seeing the hundreds of bombs, bullets and missiles that have been displayed. The tagline "War belongs in a museum" best fits this place... Worth visiting

This was our last stop on our trip to visit WWI battlefields and cut across Belgium and the Netherlands. This is a very comprehensive museum full of great exhibits mostly on WWII. Many of them are based on German equipment which one (at least I never found any) cannot find in Germany proper. A storyboard tells the story of what it was like living on the border when the Wehrmacht stormed across the border as well as what life was like under German occupation. Loads of exhibits show life on and off the battlefield. Though most of the museum is aimed at World War II, there are many great exhibits of previous and later conflicts.

An amazing museum! However keep in mind, first part of the museum does not have ENGLISH text for explanations. There are limited places which contain English subtitles. It was a fun to answer “Dilemma” questions. I havent seen it before in any museum. They basically ask you questions about the situations occurred during the war and asking how would you react. In the end it gives you the percentage of the answers. It was interesting to see how other visitors answered the questions. 2nd part of the museum (with tanks and stuff) was pretty cold (December 20th) I recommend keeping your coat with you in the museum so you can wear it in the 2nd part. There are many tanks and vehicles that have stories behind. It is interesting to read them. You can learn by whom they were used during the war. Overall satisfying experience. P.s. : I wished they have better keychains at the Museum Shop.

This museum boasts to be the largest war museum in the Netherlands very impressive hundreds of exhibits and very well presented I was on a tight schedule so I only managed to spend a couple of hours there You could easily spend at least half a day there, nearby outside the museum are souvenirs shops and restaurants. If you ever find yourself travelling near Overloon make a point of stopping and visiting this very impressive museum thoroughly recommended!

Fantastic place. There are so many equipments - it feels like you can attack a whole country from this museum and win. I am thinking of becoming the general of this museum and use all the arms to build my own army. What's missing- drones, f 35 and tomahawks

One of the best war museums I have ever been to. There's a haunting display of life in occupied Holland, as well as an incredible collection of vehicles. Staff are very friendly, the cafe is great, even the wooded area surrounding the museum is beautiful.

One of the best WW2 museums especially when it comes to vehicles. We hope they'll increase the expedition with the rest vehicles we've seen years ago like the Vietnam stuff. The Jeep special is great, but we'd recommend to put the Jeeps like the M38a1 and m151 also there.

Amazing museum with a great collection of both artefacts but lots of vehicles as well. It also shows the impact of the occupation endured by the Dutch during WW2 as well as their resistance. It also presents the effects of the holocaust which spread to the Netherlands as well.

Army.

Booked tickets in advance. First thing we noticed in the Dutch WW2 history hall was any items in the glass display only had Dutch or German text. Only videos on the screens had English subtitles. There was a QR code that described in English some items on display but not all. Still an extremely well done exhibition on Dutch history during WW2. The military vehicles and equipment hall was extremely well laid out and very impressive. Well worth the visit overall!

For any WW2 buffs, this is heaven! I spent 4 hours wandering through the exhibits. Many well known and underappreciated pieces were on offer to look over, notably a Panzer V and Stug self propelled gun. For english speakers, the app to bring up English translations was well worth using to get the most out of this amazing museum in a quaint and very important town in the history of Operation Market Garden.

It was wet weather when we visited, so we only got to tour the inside, however the impact I felt from the museum was huge. The sheer amount and types of vehicles really portrays the scope of the war in a graphic way. The Lancaster wreckage display was very impactful as well. I would definitely go back to explore the grounds as well if I ever get the chance!

It starts off with a lot of interesting information about the netherlands in WW2. The items are original and the story about it, how it's explained is pretty good. There is a big hall with alot of vehicles and other war machinery. They have shelfs and shelfs of different kind of radio's and ammunition / grenades. And an most impressive layout of the crashed british Lancester NN775. On the outside there some more tanks and information.

A friend recommended visiting and we drove over. Very glad to have had a chance to visit and look at the collection of World War II vehicles, weapons, and exhibits. Was surprised to see the collection included pieces from the Imperial Japanese Navy from across the globe. Also learned quite a bit about the battles fought in the area. Definitely worth the trip!

Massive. Overwhelming. This is the place to go in Holland if you want to see rolling units from Second World War. And lots of them. Almost too many of them. This museum got what that seems like every unit participating in the war on the Dutch grounds. And in the sea and air! Expect to use at least 3-4 hours on your visit. The cafeteria was also nice. Great place.

(Translated by Google) The town of Overloon is located in the south-eastern part of the Netherlands, near the border with Germany. A quiet town, at first glance, no different from other towns in North Brabant. This inconspicuous Overloon, however, witnessed important historical events. ⚔️ During the Second World War, on September 30, 1944. the city and its surroundings became the site of a very heavy tank battle. After the unsuccessful Operation Market-Garden, the Allies began to move the front lines towards Germany again. SkieAmerican Sherman tanks and German Panther tanks fired incessantly. About a week later, British troops also joined the fight. The Americans and the British tried to capture the city several times, but the Germans successfully defended themselves. Finally, on October 18, Overloon was captured by the Allies, but at a very high cost. Nearly 2,000 soldiers were killed, 40 additional tanks and 3 planes were lost, and the city was almost completely destroyed. The Battle of Overloon is known to be the heaviest tank battle ever to take place in the Netherlands. Today life in the town looks normal, but the memory of these events remains. The first world war museum in the world is located almost in the center. Oorlogsmuseum Overloon was established shortly after the war, in 1946. Since then, an impressive amount of military equipment has been accumulated there. Over 150 vehicles, planes and guns. The exhibitions of other World War II battles are also impressive. There are also two Polish accents here🇵🇱. The first is the uniform of the Polish paratrooper of the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade, which fought in Operation Market-Garden, and the second - the Mk VIII Challenger tank with the markings of the Polish 1st Armored Division. Fun fact: there is a way to enter the museum for free and legally. You can ... enter it by bike🚴🏻‍♂️. A special bicycle bridge that goes through the very center of the museum. This way (during the museum's opening hours) we can see what it looks like inside. 🎟️However, I highly recommend buying a ticket and seeing it all up close and feeling that characteristic smell of grease and steel. In the nearby area I visited on that day: - bunkers and a Canadian 🇨🇦 Kangaroo combat vehicle in Mill, - the cemetery of British soldiers fighting in the Battle of Overloon, - De Peel bunkers near Deurne, - the largest cemetery of German soldiers in this part of Europe, over 31,000 tombs from the periods of World War I and II Ysselsteyn. I invite you to look at some photos below ⬇️ (Original) W południowo - wschodniej części Holandii🇳🇱, niedaleko granicy z Niemcami🇩🇪 leży miasteczko Overloon. Zginęło prawie 2000 żołnierzy, dodatkowo stracono 40 czołgów i 3 samoloty, a miasto zostało niemal doszczętnie zniszczone. Ponad 150 pojazdów, samolotów i dział. 🎟️Gorąco jednak polecam kupić bilet i zobaczyć to wszystko z bliska i poczuć ten charakterystyczny zapach smaru i stali. Zapraszam do obejrzenia kilku zdjęć poniżej ⬇️

EXTRAORDINARY and OUTSTANDING! This incredible collection of WW2 vehicles is a MUST SEE. Every type of relevant machinery to make you realise what resources have to be organised to keep an Army at it's task. We didn't expect the beautiful aircraft and their poignant stories. Everything here way EXCEEDED our expectations and this, after the excellent displays we've seen at OMAHA BEACH and the 101st AIRBORNE MUSEUM at St MERE EGLISE in France. We are of an age where family members and older friends fought and flew - with some lost - in nearly all of the great campaigns of WW1 and WW2 so we know a little bit of the history and our families know loss and sacrificeas a consequence. There is 'respect' here and we were really moved by the Lancaster Display, and in a special JEEP display it was amazing to see the fully kitted out DESERT RAT from the LRDG where two NZ uncles served before coming on to the European campaigns. There are interesting and thought provoking Audio Visuals that made their point, despite limited English. Staff made interesting points, drew our attention to things we may well have overlooked and were helpful with translations etc. And the amazing and innovative CYCLE BRIDGE ... leading those on the outside trail ... to the CAFE!! Though the destruction wrought by what is displayed here was immense, you cannot be left untouched by the equally powerful thoughts of 'sacrifice' made to give us the free world we live in. Thoughts we should hold on to in today's times! Thank you for the work and efforts at OVERLOON to keep these ideals.

Great collection or historic material, war props and all sorts of vehicles. You can easily spend over 2 hours, depending on your interest in war. However there's not much to do for younger children.

Great place to remember the price our fathers payed for our freedom. I wonder why there is no such a museum in CZ to remember it. Some parts from exhibition are hard for smaller child. On the other side here is plenty of different allies machines, trucks, our almost everything rely to WWII.

Impressive museum about the second world war (WW2). This is the best WW2 museum I have been too (so far) that describes the reality of the war. The collection of people that experienced the war was very impressive and interesting. They tell the story of different people in the war. The collection of tanks, artillery, other vehicles and planes is impressive. Around these there are weapons, ammo, shells and electronics ordered. Also very interesting are the military bikes and the impressive amphibious vehicles. This is a museum worth the visit. Also outside there is a big nice park.

The local spot for me where war is remembered and on occasion comes alive. Much to learn for kids, and in the unlikely event they get bored, there still is a massive collection of WWII vehicles to gawk at. Unique things to see there are the crashed Lancaster expo, as well as the giant BARC. Many events around the year with re-enactments and many running vehicles.

Top 3 war museums in mainland Europe. Never seen so much kit in one place, everything from bikes through jeeps, trucks, tanks and two aircraft. More weapons than most small countries and brilliant layout. Stuff I've never seen before and some unique pieces. Not just WW2, this covers all wars in Europe as well as a few bits from Korea and more recent stuff. Spent several hours exploring and wandering the grounds. An excellent cafe allowed another try of an apple and cinnamon slice, only the dutch do them this good. Really good value for money.

What a wonderful visit our group had at both the cafe and the museum. It was the first day of our tour and it was an excellent way to begin the battlefield tour. We started with an amazing meal and tea thanks to the cafe. We had our own private room and the service was excellent. The staff were all very friendly and had our booking ready to go as soon as we got there. Their warm welcome helped give our tour a great experience at the cafe and museum. The croquettes were delicious and the group liked them. The cafe was very accommodating with our allergies. We enjoyed the visit of the museum and how well set up it was with lots to see and explore. My favorite part was seeing the plane that crashed with all the pieces laying out in the shape of the plane. This gave a good visual for our group. The guest service was excellent along with the meal and museum visit. There is so much information in the museum that you could easily spend hours exploring. We will definitely be bringing groups back to the Overloon museum as there is something for everyone. The outdoor space is also very lovely to explore so make sure to plan extra time to walk the trials. Excellent spot for lunch if you have a large group. 10/10 experience and the best way to start a trip. I would definitely recommend this museum and cafe to everyone.

It took 4 hours to visit, and still more to see and understand. The interactive part on WWI and the faiths of Dutch and Jewish people was impressive and captivating. The boys spend almost an hour with a guide in the arms room downstairs. Listening to the stories and seeing historic items about them is sometimes shocking e.g. - a perfectly nice Sherman, with the turret moved a bit - other side: the hole of the German shot. Not for small children - great starting 10 to 90+

Weiter so Overloon.

Was here last year and my major complaint was that a lot of the displays were not in English. This year 90 percent are now in English, so I really understood more of the history. They have wifi so you can use Google translate for the displays still in dutch or German. Funny thing, the Americans and the English liberated the town, but the museum is mainly dutch and German. Overall, a great museum and a must see.

I never get tired of this collection / museum. I think I must have visited every year for the past 5 and there is always something new to see. The collection of vehicles and associated equipment is epic and the majority are in excellent condition, The story of WW2 through the eyes of the Dutch is a heroic and tragic story which we are not very familiar with in the UK. I cannot recommend this museum highly enough (and the coffee shop is excellent too!)

Visited the museum on a battlefield tour, one of the best I’ve visited with some exhibits I’d never seen before. Whilst the descriptions are only in Dutch or German for the first part of the museum didn’t find that too much of a problem. Only had limited time but could have spent a good 4 hours there, definitely worth visiting.

A must go for everybody with intriguing personal stories to make the war touchable. I went there with my 15 year old daughter and she liked it. I could enrich the displays with some back ground info. Questions like what is a glider, what is a radar, what are these metal tripods doing outside and how does a V-1 fly. I would have liked more explanations on how it all works. Some displays are very unique like the boat Yvette and the Lancaster bomber display. Also why not a recruitment leaflet, how to join the army? There were many schoolkids from some high school when we visited. They should also consider a career in the army. War is not some stuffy thing from the past. It is all around us!
