I t was quite a while ago I was able to spend some time and check out this beautiful one of a kind structure! While visiting for work. The wings open at around 10am with the museum, and flap at noontime, then close when the museum closes. Worth seeing! In side the museum there is lots of space with views of the lake and lots of nice art. It is also located just steps away on the shores of Lake Michigan and can walk right in front of the lake and the museum while walking along the path

We spent a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon here with two adults and five children ages 6-18. There is so much to see we could have come back a second time. The children loved the art studio where they could create a work of art. Don't miss the Georgia O'Keeffe collection. The Discourse Coffeehouse in the lower level has the most delicious handcrafted drinks as well as sandwiches and bakery items. I recommend the Parisian matcha drink, it truly is a work of culinary art. I highly recommend visiting this art museum. Art from the 1300s through contemporary art as well a design.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting several times now and each time I find new delights. The faculty itself is quite striking. The variety in the collection means that everyone can find something that draws them in regardless of your personal tastes. The setting is also stunning. I was there most recently near dusk in November. The sky colors and low horizon shadows made it exceptionally pretty.

This is a beautiful art museum on Lake Michigan. It’s spacious and an architectural masterpiece. The collection has many famous artists American and European. My favorites were the Rembrandt etchings that you can look at with a magnifying glass. Give yourself a full day because there is so much to see. The Cafe food was very good and excellent service.

This art museum is Milwaukee’s treasure. It is architecturally astounding. The views of the lake are so serene. The art collection is expansive. The cafe is a delight. I would love to see some kind of weekly jazz event in the cafe area, I think it’s the perfect setting. The running trails around also make it seem so lively. Great place to spend the day.

The Art in Bloom exhibit was beautiful. I've lived in Milwaukee for years and this was my first time at this exhibit. I've grown up attending various events at the art museum and also just coming on my own time, but this particular event that happens annually is worth the trip. How cool to see flower arrangements that are inspired by art in the museum!

Good place to visit, we went to Chicago for vacations and stopped in Milwaukee to spend some time in this museum. Nice architecture, the spaces are well designed. Expositions are very interesting, they have a bit of many periods of art. Definitely 100% recommended.

Wow, what an amazing museum inside and out! Such a great collection, but be warned the Milwaukee Art Museum is huge! I regret only allocating two-ish hours for my visit, because you really could spend a half-day or more here. Wear comfy shoes!

Absolutely beautiful experience! The museum is HUGE, and totally worth the price of admission. The galleries felt endless, and it truly is an architectural marvel. The cafe and gift shop are also so nice.

Such a great museum! I didn't want to leave, as we hadn't seen all of the galleries, but the kids were ready for food (if I'm honest, we were all fading). The sketching kits that you can pick up (free!) for the kids are an incredible idea, and was a perfect way to get and keep 6 and 7 year old kids interested in the art around them. I am looking forward to returning so I can see all of the myriad art pieces I missed!

A beautiful building and amazing pieces from paintings, sculptures, pottery, furniture, carvings, posters were being featured but sadly the photography section was closed as they were moving and updating. A definite must see in Milwaukee for any and all ages. Staff were helpful and available throughout the areas.

I highly enjoyed my time here. Beautiful pieces of art. Blown glass from only the most popular ;) My friends and I recieved military discounts, with it. Go visit, I dare you. The overall outdoor architecture is incredible, you'll want and not easily resist exploring the inside.

A large and varied collection of art modalities and subjects are on display. With too much to see in several hours, I recommend becoming a member, especially if you live in Milwaukee and appreciate art and beauty's impact on oneself. There are water fountains and restrooms inside. The parking below and across the street in the garage are discounted if you are a member. There are a number of benches for the large art pieces and a set of tables and chairs in the foyer on the lake side entrance. I do enjoy reading books in the museum in several places such as the 3rd floor's lounge room with views of the lake and discovery world/south. They can hold your water bottles or other items that they will not let you bring inside (such as a metal water bottle). There are also lockers for items, but I'm not sure how much those cost. Students and seniors pay less for tickets.

Fascinating facility and a fantastic collection of American, Minimalist, Abstract and Haitian Art and so much more. Definitely needs to be a bucket list item. Easy access and plenty of parking. Spend the day, enjoy a great coffee, tea and sandwich in the restaurant.

The architecture of the building itself alone is amazing. My visit here was more than I imagined, such great art pieces and amazing views right outside as well! A lot of art to see, I believe we spent a couple hours exploring. One of my favorite museums I've been to so far! Most definitely recommend if you are in the area.

Quite a large focus on modern art, the neatest aspect by far in my opinion is the architecture of the building itself, which is worth the visit alone. Even though modern art is not my preference I still enjoyed my time, and learned quite a bit reading through artist bios. Would highly recommend the trip out.

Great way to go spend a couple of hours in Milwaukee! Had a very large selection of different historic items, art pieces, sculptures, furniture, mechanical pieces, etc! It got me thinking about many various periods throughout human history and was quite thought-provoking. Not to mention, the architecture of the museum itself is impressive!

Really neat art museum. Not super big but they have it packed full of stuff. The architecture of the building itself is a piece of art. Check timing for the wings. They open in the morning close in the evening and flap at 12 o’clock weather permitting. There are a few interactive workshops to check out as you’re going through. All in all it’s a good visit. It was listed as the number one thing to do in Milwaukee. I think that’s probably pretty accurate! Kids are free thanks to kohls!

Santiago Calatrava's stunning building is a work of art in itself. The canopy closes at 5pm and takes about 3 minutes if you want to set up a time lapse. Bonus points for the entire newer structure bring free to explore as the paid area begins when you enter there galleries in the older building. Extra bonus points for the coolest parking deck I've ever seen!

Beautiful collections shown in that impressive building! The interior and exterior design makes it a piece of art on its own. The waterfront location with breathtaking views also adds to the amazing experience.

A treasure! This museum is such an amazing structure! Just being in the space is a joy. The collection is world class and covers all the majors genres. I love the special areas, too — especially the folk art and Haitian areas. I look forward to the Art in Bloom events, where local floral designers take inspiration from an art piece on display to make a gorgeous floral creation. There are a few places inside to get coffee, snacks or meals. The gift shop has many interesting and unique items. I’ve been to several special exhibitions here and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend!!

This museum is amazing! It has so many exhibits and a wide variety of art on display. The building itself is very cool. Gorgeous views of the lake. On a good day there are places to sit out by the lake and a lake shore walk. If you are museum lover or not, art lover or not, this is a place you are going to want to visit.

This art museum is a great size! It isn't overwhelming, you can take your time and enjoy the art and the beautiful views of the lake. There was a Haitian exhibit when I visited that was phenomenal! I really recommend it. One thing to note, it was very warm inside so bring layers. I was in a winter sweater and it was a bit too warm!

Milwaukee Art Museum is beautiful! Whomever designed this building really created something special. The building itself is gorgeous. You walk in and there is beautiful scenary of Lake Michigan..breathtaking! As you wonder down the halls and in the open concept floor plans there is something for everyone to see. The hand painted artwork is my favorite and also some of the sculpted work as well. They have security on every floor which I love. The staff is nice and friendly. It is much bigger in the inside vs just looking at the outside. They do have a small cafe area where you can eat.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. The Milwaukee Art Museum is an iconic Wisconsin venue. From the architecture by Calatrava to the exhibits & sculptures, MAM is a must see place. I've been here for more than just the museum itself. Business events, weddings, etc. There's a lot that happens around one of Milwaukee's happening places.

Awesome place. It's right off the water with close access to downtown. Access to the museum is easy with plenty of parking. Acces to the waterfront is built right in, which perfectly adds to the waterfront attractions. It makes for a great time, clean, and people are respectful. Highly recommend.

The most magnificent art museum I’ve ever visited was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Its unique design, inspired by the shape of a ship overlooking Lake Michigan, is truly breathtaking. Words can hardly do it justice—pictures are worth a thousand words. Enjoy.

Art is art. There's exhibits for everyones liking. I personally liked level 2 better. The layout of the building is pretty neat & there is great views of Lake Michigan. I probably won't return for the cost of admission and having to pay for parking.

Excellent museum with beautiful views, amazing architecture & world class galleries & collections. Everything from current contemporary exhibitions & a well rounded post-war American collection to European classics and amazing folk art. Easy to spend a lot of time here regardless of level of art education or particular interest. Highly recommended. 🖼️

Great place. Visited here many times in different years, both from just outside as well as from inside. The most interesting thing about this building is the wings open and close every morning and every evening, and that is a sight to watch. The exhibits are interesting and very creative. A full day can be easily spent here roaming inside and outside. Lakeside views are stunning too.

Wonderful experience! Not only was the museum awesome, but it sits right on the lake. Great place to spend an entire day! Beer and food tents on the patio for after a day spent looking at beautiful and moving works of art.

This is an absolutely beautiful museum. It offers something for everyone whether your particular favorite art expression is Impressionism, Modern, Renaissance, Folk, and much more. We spent close to three hours and did not see it all. If you are in the Milwaukee area I highly recommend a visit to this museum. You won’t be disappointed! We arrived about 10:30 and the underground parking garage was mostly empty. We paid $10 for the time we were there. There is also a garage across the street.

Beautiful museum with gorgeous artwork spanning the ages and a plethora of haunting and unforgettable liminal spaces. I strongly recommend buying a membership (there's a discount if you're on any kind of public assistance, just show your card!) because there's lots of stuff to keep everyone engaged enough that when I went with two preteen girls, they were entertained all the way to the end. I think I'll probably be getting my steps in here on bad weather days while my daughter attends one of their free activity labs that usually run midday for kids! It doesn't boast a collection quite as big as the art institute in Chicago of course, but in my opinion, it's just as wonderful an experience as the architecture is compelling and not to be missed - a true work of art all in itself. Come early, though - before lunch. The museum's architecture is best appreciated without throngs of other art enthusiasts, and that's nearly impossible from lunch time on! Plus, no wait for tickets. Can't beat that!

We went to see the exhibit, Art In Bloom. It was wonderful. Basically, it is floral designs based loosely on art pieces. Amazing use of so many types of flowers & greenery. I am a member, normally I would get in free, but this is a special exhibit so it cost, with a fee, $11.60 per person. Not bad. Keep an eye out for it next year

Very picture worthy place. Lots of weddings take place. Great vibe. I actually didn’t even know if you keep going down the lake there is a beach and some hidden areas with big rocks. Maybe I was there on a really windy day but there were some strong waves almost like ocean waves. It was so beautiful and peaceful.

The Milwaukee Art Museum the building where the Transformer movie was spot at. The inside is very modern and up to date with a vase array of stunning artwork. Every month they update a segment of the Museum to different artists. It's VERY clean inside with stunning architectural designs. Being an art collector myself, I always love to see art at its purest form. Would highly recommend visitors to go give this place a check out if your visiting Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Art Museum is perhaps the crowning jewel of the Milwaukee lakefront, with its stunning architecture standing out, against a gorgeous backdrop of Lake Michigan. The museum is equally admirable, with thoughtfully chosen artwork spread across 4 levels. There's a cafe, with windows overlooking Lake Michigan, and a museum store. Museum parking is limited, but there's enough parking available across the street. 3-4 hours would be sufficient to explore the artifacts on display, although one can always spend more time.

A world class museum. I arrived shortly after opening time and there were quite a few groups from schools. First off, the students were all fantastic guests. Attentive, polite, and interested. Second, the docents were fantastic. I listened to many. They spoke to the kids as peers. This all aside, it is a wonderful museum.

I absolutely LOVED this museum!!! The staff was friendly and helpful. The art was absolutely STUNNING! I was very impressed with the number of Georgia Okeeffe paintings I saw. A great collection of both historical and contemporary pieces. I only wish I had more time to explore! I only had 2 hours before closing, and I definitely could have stayed another 2 hours.

A memorable experience visiting with my daughter who serves in the Navy. The thought and execution of this project was beautiful! Many levels of information and the eternal flame was touching. Happy to share this with our 6 y/o daughter as well. Parking was $10.00 but gave you access to the whole harbor walk and Festival that was in the park. Food truck available and places to eat nearby.

I had never visited the art museum before. We only went because I'm a teacher and had a free pass, and kids are free. It's not really a place for kids, though. We were followed and got in trouble for the kids getting too close to exhibits. Unless you are an art student or your passion is art, this was a one-time stop for us. Some of the older paintings were cool to see, but the best part was the lakefront! We ate lunch outside and walked by the lake.

We love the MAM, a year ago we can on one of the most special trips to MKE and it seemed perfect to come back and propose here. Love the diversity in artists and type of art and the location is stunning.

Beautiful. I visited from out of town and was impressed by the thoughtfulness behind the art installations. I only had enough time to check out the main floor exhibits and was there for 3 hours. They have a cafe on the lower level and an open window area on the first floor that overlooks the lake. It was breathtaking. There was hardly any lines when I arrived around 10 AM on a Saturday.

Milwaukee Art Museum is extravagantly unique : Its roof opens and closes; brillant white marble hallways connect wings of the buildings; exhibits are varied and represent many periods, many style, many cultures. Plus, it's right on Lake Michigan. You can't beat the view. Wonderful walking paths run all along the shoreline. I attended a nighttime Wedding in this Museum -- it was BREATHTAKING! Sizewise, this Museum is quite manageable. You don't get the exhaustion of sensory overload. Reasonable Paid Parking available nearby.

We decided to visit the Art Museum for our one-day trip to Milwaukee, based on many online recommendations. It was supposed to be a must-see attraction. However, we are not really into art - we prefer historical artifacts. We liked some of the art pieces, but we regretted not going to a historical museum instead. The admission fee was $44 for two adults (plus the garage parking fee), which seemed too high. To make matters worse, we had to deal with a family with three noisy toddlers who ran around and disturbed everyone. Security did nothing to stop them. We wasted 15 minutes trying to get away from them.

One of the best American Art collections in the country! And Calatrava's building is simply stunning. It makes for a wonderful day of culture and awe. A must-see in town.

We visited with a family friend and enjoyed every moment of the Art in Bloom installations. Gorgeous art paired with floral art by local area floral artists. Next year we hope to make it to the fashion show. I hadn’t been back since I was a child and it was well worth it - we plan to visit again soon.

Wow this art museum is breathtaking beautiful. The location is perfect overlooking Lake Michigan. The art collection here is amazing. There’s a Dale Chihuly piece at the side entrance. And on top floor there’s Georgia O’Keefe exhibit. The first floor there’s Scandinavian exhibit. You can easily spend a couple hours exploring this place. The paid parking is available on lower level or across the street. Although if you come on Sunday, street parking is free.

An architectural beauty right by the water. The art is inspiring, the lines are short (midweek summer) and its is easy to get to. Get your Bird, Lime, or Lyft ready because the city has a few very good spots for rental bikes and great paths for electric scooters 🛵
