I paid 23,000 LKR for the ticket + truck. I was told it would be 2 and a half hours, but it ended after 1 hour 45 minutes. Saw a few elephants, deer and birds. Nothing special, considering that you can see all of these animals outside the park. I actually saw more elephants walking on the road and they were at a much closer distance. So it wasn’t worth the money or time.

Relatively smaller national park in sri lanka. Can visit from Habarana or Dambulla. Large number of elephants (in hundreds) can be seen in the evening, specially during dry season. Birds can be seen in the morning. Lots of safari jeeps are available in dambulla and habarana and relatively cheaper than other national parks.

If someone seeking a national park to see the huge number of Elephants, this is the best national park in Sri Lanka. Somedays you will be able to see Elephants more than 200 including baby Elephants. There are few huge open areas with lakes. When Elephants came to drink water you can enjoy a very nice view. Everything safari is best since most of Elephants use to come to the lacks to drink water and you can enjoy the sunset as well. Mainly this park famous only for Elephants. Rest of animals hard to see. Such as Leopards, Bears, Deers, Crocodiles like in Yala National Park. Adjacent to the the Minnariya National Park, there are another 2 national parks. They are Hrulu Eco Park and Kaudulla National Park. I have visited these all National Parks. But as my experience if someone wants to see lot of Elephants with lovely lakes, the best National Park is Minnariya National Park.

Minneriya known as the largest meeting place of Asian Elephants in the world, The Park that covers an area of 8,889 hectares is of tropical monsoon climate: annual rainfall is about 1146mm and mean annual temperature is 27.5 centigrade. Minneriya National Park is located 182 km away from Colombo in the North Central Plains of Sri Lanka. The significant of Minneriya national park is providing opportunity to see herbs of Elephants through the year due to it’s being part of the elephant corridor which joins up with Kaudulla and Wasgamuwa national parks. May to October is the best period to visit Minneriya National Park in view of the famous Gathering of the wild elephants. In the afternoon, about 150 swarm tours are a common occurrence in the tanks. In addition, beasts and bears are also seen. During dry season large numbers of Sri Lankan elephants are attracted to grass fields on the edges of the reservoir. In August and September each year wild elephants from the surrounding wilderness in search of food and water, makes their way to the shores of the Minneriya Reservoir adjoining the Minneriya National Park. Huge herd of elephants, sometimes numbering up to 300, converge together within a few square kilometers of the lake.
