We got a hotel room down the street at the courtyard hotel and it was about 7PM on Thursday night. We went here because Google said it was Caribbean food. It was no such thing. The food is Chinese food with a "Guyanese" twist. Unfortunately it was just American-Chinese food. And it was really bad American-Chinese Food at that. I got a combo with rice noodles and chicken. The Rice was completely inedible, it tasted like burnt Ash. The chicken was not great. The sauce that was used was just straight up Ketchup. The only thing that was palatable on the plate was the noodles, Unfortunately they had fragments of chicken bone throughout. Me and the other person with me both picked out 3 or 4 bone piece each. Not only was the food not great, but between the restaurant being run down and having visible water damage on the ceiling and Christmas decorations up (March). The restaurant was also completely devoid of any other customers. The only people who came in were friends of the waitress and just stood around talking for 30 minutes. But the thing that instilled the least amount of confidence was the fact the restaurant is called "Kalypso" hut with a K but the menu spelled "Calypso" special with a C. It's like this restaurant doesn't know what it wants to be. This was without doubt the worst Restaurant experience i have found in the Greater Toronto Area.

Paid $18 for fry rice $15 for pepper shrimp Fryrice with chicken was a ripoff. Smallest chicken I have seen on fry rice in all the restaurants I have visited. Chicken was hard couldn't chew it. Pepper shrimp was not pepper shrimp and and taste was not there. For what you are charging for food please xome better.

This place has to be a joke to call themselves a Caribbean restaurant. Never seen special chicken fried rice with 3 tiny pieces of chicken on top. I thought it was an accident until I seen the other box was identical. The shrimp was an insult to be called pepper shrimp. I recieved half a container full and had no flavor. I was even denied extra pepper sauce even though I ordered quite a bit of food. I honestly can't believe this place is in business still. Never again. Avoid at all costs

I’ve dined at this restaurant and the food is always delicious. The pepper sauce has a special flavour to it that goes with the food. Service and staff are good, and so are prices. Owner is friendly and cares about the service his customers receive. The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from. They offer a variety of snacks that are considered Guyanese favourites. The setting is a kind of mix between a restaurant and a bar so the music can tend to be too loud sometimes if you’re just there to have a meal; however, the staff and owner is bound to make your visit an enjoyable one, so be sure to let them know if something is making you uncomfortable.

So just under a year ago I was invited to this place and absolutely loved their food. Then as I continue to eat there and do events I became more and more disappointed!!! Had a party for my daughter there 30/40 people and took a section. I was very disappointed, long story short…. I had to rearrange the place for my guest in my dress and high heels with zero help from staff no matter how much I asked. The owners son said they are too busy! Food was served one hour late to my guests amongst so many things!! I didn’t complain to the owner. Bought food a few months ago and it was burned and tasted bitter! I was told they will replace it and they did a couple of weeks later but yet again bitter and the chicken was raw to my surprise, we couldn’t eat it…..again!! I didn’t bother to complain! We took a pause for a few months and decided to try them again but sadly we were yet again disappointed!! All the veggies were raw and no flavours. The broccoli was like from the garden to my plate. The pepper shrimp had no favour and didn’t even had a colour on it, it looks steamed. The carrots, cabbage and bora came from the garden in my steamed rice, absolutely nothing fried about that fried rice!! It was cabbage and cabbage and more cabbage and big hard pieces of cabbage. Sorry to say it was so disgusting to eat….no favours!! Don’t get me wrong….food used to be delicious and the owner is a great guy. I just don’t know what happened….maybe new management/chef….I don’t know but sadly I’m no longer spending my money here!!

I love the Chow Mein. The photo of of the Beef Chow Mein, it’s delicious 😋….This place has the most delicious food such that I am a regular customer. I am writing this review because I ordered through ubereats, and I was surprised to see that this restaurant is rated a 4.4 which is not an accurate representation of the place. I am blown away by the food and the service. I requested hot sauce and was given a generous portion. I am so grateful. Go check out this restaurant y’all. Their food is tasty and their hot sauce is second to none. I am from a Caribbean background consequently great hot sauce, is a must with our meals. Thank you kalypso Hut !!!!!!

I was there for a pickup and it was packed, lots of people enjoying themselves. Love the food, West Indian/Chinese and tasty. Friendly and helpful staff on hand to make your dining or take-out experience great.

Was invited to a party at Kalypso Hut. Half of the space was booked for the party. There was a dance floor, plenty of seating, clean washrooms, a buffet table, and the customer service was excellent. The owner Paul was also present and helping with the food. I can appreciate it when I see the owner working hard and making sure everything is going well. My only complaint would be that there is minimal parking but otherwise great experience!

The food is very good here. I attended a family function couple weeks ago. I have since returned to eat couple times. The service is quite good and the location is easy to get to. Try the fried chicken and any one of the rice dishes. The owner Paul is always there to great you personally and professionally. I recommend visiting asap.

Kalypso Hut is just the OG restaurant for any Guyanese/West Indian. Can never go wrong with their fried rice, wings and low mein! 👌🏽🙏🏽

The chicken fried rice should be called fried rice, barely any chicken in it. It used to be tasty now it’s bland. Cabbage is no longer an ingredient in the original OG recipe I used to love and enjoy. Been a huge fan for decades, sadly it will end today. I should do a charge back on my credit for services not rendered.

The food is good, and the service is even better. Had a family function there and Simran was amazing!!! Extremely helpful, friendly, and patient. I've been there more than once and both times had the pleasure of Simran being our server. Would definitely go back again

Nice people, food was really good, flavors are really well developed, vegetable were nice and fresh, not overcooked. The wonton soup had a really nice, deep, fresh earthy flavor, fried wontons were perfectly prepared, not undercooked or over seasoned, and the house special mixed fried rice was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, and savory. Definitely will return next time I'm spending an evening in town. Great job.

We ,went to Kalypso Hut, when I entered through the Door. They do not have any signs saying watch out for the first step or anything like that. I fell down and I asked someone for some ice to put on my left ankle it felt like I twisted my ankle. I bruised my right knee when I fell down so I was icing both of my legs. The owner was there and he did not come over to even see how I was doing. And did not even give a discount.

We ordered bbq chicken and fried rice, it tasted AWEFUL! It seemed like old food reheated, chicken was dry and rice had the texture like it was going bad. We felt sick after eating this garbage! Never going back and telling friends / family my experience ! No pictures becuz we threw it all out.

Wish i would’ve took a photo of the food but unfortunately i didn’t get one. We ordered pepper shrimp that was not hot at all nor warm it’s like they reheated it real quick. Then we ordered the chicken and shrimp noodles and it was absolutely horrible. The chicken was thrown in it like if it was frozen then reheated. The noodles and the sauce tasted awful and nothing was fresh at all. The shrimp still had the tails on them which is not a pleasure when trying to enjoy your meal. I am very disappointed and definitely made the server aware and gave them back the rest of their food. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Hopefully they switch up cooks and then it might be better. For the price you pay everything should be cooked to order. And it wasn’t busy to say the least.

3rd time at this location and the food and service is non comparable. Flavour at its finest, very yummy and delicious! They take their time to cook food which guarantees its freshness. Worth the patience and time considering the ample flavour to its menu options.

Restaurant needs reevaluation on customer service, quality of food, and size portion. My order of fried Rice was hard, found a string of beans that weren't chopped properly, chicken on top was cut extremely small. Pretty Embarassing as this is Not what you're use to seeing from any guyanese restaurant. If you want to keep your customers happy and those customers coming back you'll have to address the items listed above. I dont think I will return here.

I decided to try this place as just an attempt to not eat some more fast food. I stopped in and had a look at the take out menu. I ended up ordering the chicken low mein. The place was pretty empty and bare upon entry, and I wasn't sure where to go to order so I just stood by the bar. But pretty promptly a nice lady came out and took care of me. My food was prepared quickly and I was back to work to eat my meal. Personally, the low mein wasn't what I thought it would be. It wasn't necessarily bad. Just wasn't what I was expecting. The chicken part of this low mein was actual chunks of dark meat chicken cut in to chunks. The problem was it was full of bones and the bones had shattered and basically contaminated the whole dish. It just became more of a pain to eat than it was worth. . again, the dish wasn't really that bad and the pepper sauce was super spicy which I enjoyed, but for the price point and all chipped bones in my noodles, I probably wouldn't order the same dish again. Still better than fast food.

I like the place food was great, I have the chicken & shrimp fried rice & noodles, it looks like a place to bring the kids while having a drink with friends. Lots of people were there with the kids. They also have the option to parties. Nice tables area & dance floor.

The owner of this establishment do not know how to speak to customer. Very arrogant as if he is doing you a favor. The food is ok when hot, but look out when it’s cold, unless you like rocks (hard and dry). Oh yea, he loves to consume alcohol behind the bar with customers

Please, if you don't know HOW TO DO YOUR JOB,....CHANGE IT! I asked for a glass of wine, and the lady didn't even know what is was! I had to call the owner ti explain him what I wanted, and then they asked me the green pass o proof of vaccination. And until here, is even legit....but wait: I'm fully vaccinated with Vax Card, QCODE and Pass Card since I'm from Manitoba and truck driver (so I travel a lot) and they said that they never seen something like this so they cannot accept it!! OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T SEE IT, BECAUSE IM FROM MANITOBA AND YOU'RE FROM ONTARIO!!! But that doesn't mean that isn't valid, you dumb!!

We’ve been ordering takeout from this place for years (family events and functions etc). Food is always fantastic and of excellent quality. Will continue to support!

Good food, needs a little more variety for vegetarians eg. Chana with the Dal puri. Nice atmosphere, clean bathrooms. Most staff were helpful one man had too much attitude, which is not good in this kind of business.

I ordered pepper shrimp from this place to only get “sweet”pepper shrimp and got 8 pieces, normally when I order from other Caribbean places you’ll pay a few dollars more but way better portions

First time Im ordering food from kalypso hut to my surprise when I went to go eat dinner I wanted to know what happened to the chicken. I had their food before but someone brought to my house and we enjoyed it but OMG it was my son engagement so I thought I would order a large tray of fried rice. Some guests had eaten but when I went to eat I was shocked so I made a comment what happened to the chicken and the guy who usually brings this food to my house said that’s how he buys it but he have to buy additional chick to bring it to my house like that. I usually don’t write reviews but this is ridiculous. So I call the owner and to my satisfaction he’s telling me that’s why it’s called a special fry rice well let me tell you something Paul you’re food is not that special you should try selling fresh food. The guy who brings me this food had to ask what time I ordered it because it wasn’t fresh at all and the chicken are so thinly slice and spread out. Don’t get me started on the 6 pepper shrimp you sell for $14. Please stop this nonsense and serve people what they paid for. I’m so disappointed in all your service and that includes your shows too. STOP IT
