Excellent fortress/garrison, which has great views from the top. Entry is a very reasonable 8 dinar (~£2.20). There are toilets available as well. Bring water during summer, the castle walls are very exposed. You can look into empty rooms. You can climb up the tower to get great 360 views. There is also a little one-room museum in there. Only catch is not much information available anywhere (in English or other languages).

One of the main reasons to visit Monastir is the magnificent Ribat. It is only 1 Dinar on the electric metro from Sousse and takes about 30 minutes to get there. There is a small museum with artefacts and giving some history of the place. The whole Ribat is available to walk around and explore. Some of the stair wells don't have hand rails so caution is advised. The stairwell up to the tower is narrow so listen out for anyone coming up or down. The viewpoint is also very narrow, space for about 3 / 4 people only. If you have mobility issues you may struggle to see the whole site as there are no lifts or ramps. The price is very reasonable and there is no time limit to your visit. It was fairly quite on my visit and the 360 views from the top are well worth the short sharp climb up.

Stunning place which we visited while on an excursion trip! This is worth a look inside to see the true scale of the place and for great views from the top!

Very cute small fort right by the water, in touristy area of the town. 8TND pp entry is well worth it. WCs in good shape, lots of stairs and tower to climb around (keep two hands free, some are narrow and irregular...don't fall!). Nothing pretty here, all coarse carved rock, sloppy mortar, no finished edges, no polish, no lapped floors, no plants, no cover (beware in summer it was be scorching hot and bright). This fort is all about pure defense. Definitely climb the tower (one at a time, yell from the bottom or top), but beware it's very narrow. Short climb though, decent light so not too hazardous. Cute view from up top but only room for 2-3 people at most (and not much for safety fence either). If not crowded give it a shot. Small museum has some artifacts from Kairouan, some coins, nothing so great. Come to the fort to climb around, views of the port and town. Parking gratis on the street outside (off season).

Be careful when climbing up the tower. The upper part doesn't feel really safe as there are no safety elements: bar, net or anything.

(Translated by Google) Yes, he restricted the link to Monastir. It is located on the sea and has a strategic location so visitors can see the entire coastline and the Monastir Marina as part of the town is rounded. A great talk to relax in part of the day and get to know the city's heritage. The state has also made good use of its investment in the summer festival, but I hope that it will be more organized during festivals.

The Ribat of Monastir is a ribat, an Islamic defensive structure, located in Monastir, Tunisia. It is the oldest ribat built by the Arab conquerors during the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb. It is also the most prominent monument of the city of Monastir.

Interesting 8th century castle/fortress to visit and learn history. The entrance fee it's about $3, which it's a very reasonable price. You can go all the way to the top and enjoy the spectacular view of the town and sea. Well worth the visit

(Translated by Google) The Monastir River (in Arabic: رباط المنستير) is an imposing Tunisian fortress located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, in the city of Monastir. Considered the oldest and most important rib of the Maghreb, it is considered the main monument of Monastir. Built in 796 by Abbasid general and governor of Ifriqiya, Harthimâ Ibn A'yûn, it was expanded on the north side under the reign of the Aghlabids (9th century) and then on the south side under the reign of the Fatimid dynasty, around 966. Subsequently, the works carried out around 1424, at the time they are in, significantly increased their surface, reaching 4 200 m2. Between the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous buttresses, as well as polygonal and circular towers and bastions were added to the building to accommodate artillery pieces. Since the 10th century, the Arab traveler, geographer and chronicler Ibn Hawqal has maintained that the building is the largest rib in I'friqiya.

Not to be missed, mostly for the view of Sousse medina, port, from the tower. There are roughly 100 steps total to get there. For the Ribat in general, not much to be seen inside and as expected no explanation other than a general panel at the entrance. The rest is empty without information on the spaces.

Rabat, Morocco's capital, rests along the shores of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. It's known for landmarks that speak to its Islamic and French-colonial heritage, including the Kasbah of the Udayas. This Berber-era royal fort is surrounded by formal French-designed gardens and overlooks the ocean. The city's iconic Hassan Tower, a 12th-century minaret, soars above the ruins of a mosque.

Lovely fortress which gives a good sense of historic architecture of the area. The tower is an ideal spot to get a 360 degree of the city.

This is a wonderful place :) I loved this castle. The price is very good, you get a ticket for 8 Dinar (foreigner). The tower is amazing, the stares up get smaller, for a tall person that might be bit difficult :P but the view up there is totally worth it. The only thing that bothered me was the some scratches on some walls. People who are working there must prevent such things and take care of the place.

Monastir Ribat look very impressive and if you are near looks huge. Was a great fortress and in our days the tourists can visit this place. This fortress it is a page of Tunisian history. If you are travel in Tunisia you have to go to visit this fortress.

Wonderful historical landmark which is totally worth the visit. The price for foreigners is 8 dinar whereas it's cheaper for Tunisians and students. There wasn't much information written in English, just French and Arabic. The view from the tower is worth the visit but not for those with acrophobia. We had the fortune of visiting whilst they were preparing the place for a film set.

Very interesting place to go back in history and witness great architectural treasures. There is a big diversity in spots to see. The tour is high and is still well maintained. A beautiful 360° view on the whole city from the top. The price is just 5 TND (~1.5€) if you come from a country in the Maghreb (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania, Libya) based on my experience on April 2023.

(Translated by Google) The Ribat of Monastir is one of the most important and oldest Islamic defensive forts in the Maghreb. And the most prominent landmarks of the Tunisian city of Monastir. This bond was established in the year 796 during the Abbasid era. It was built in the year 796 AD by the Abbasid leader and the governor of Ifriqiya, Herthah bin Ayn, and made several improvements and changes in the medieval era. Initially it was quadrilateral, consisting of four buildings that opened onto two inner courtyards In addition to the small rooms devoted to devout jihadists who were carrying out their military functions while at the same time praying and meditating, Rabat contains two mosques, the largest of which are now housed in a unique collection of supplies of worship and traditional industries in the medieval era. And it is possible to climb in a spiral staircase, with a hundred degrees, to reach the control tower from which light signals were exchanged at night with the neighboring Rabat towers, which allows the visitor to enjoy a wonderful view of the city of Monastir and its beach.
