Our stay was a disaster. The room was fine. Breakfast was average. We booked this hotel because it advertises that it has a spa/wellness area. On site we found out that the spa area is closed due to renovations. When we brought this up at the front desk, we were put off with excuses. The wellness area would be from an external provider, etc.. The information on the website is misleading. You book something that you can not use. We were not offered any kind of refund. When we booked the airport transfer, we found that this service costs 50% more than in other hotels. So far so good. We were assured that payment could be made by credit card with the driver. In the end, for this price we got a car that did not even have room for our two suitcases in the trunk. One suitcase and the hand luggage were transported on the passenger seat. Upon arrival at the airport, we were informed that only cash payment was possible and that we should please withdraw money. Guests are treated badly.

The best mall in Mongolia. A good place for entertainment, shopping and dining. The hotel is right. Close to the Lunapark and the central square.

The breakfast was not particularly good. Very poor choice of, for example, fresh vegetables. But the most problematic issue was TV and all lights switching on in the middle of the night every time the building got reconnected to electrical power. This happened two or three times during one night, completely disrupting my sleep. Not something a 5-star hotel should tolerate.

Right in the center, close to all attractions. Mall with democratic brands, luxury items, movie theatre, and variety of eateries. Hotel has few good restaurants too

Good facilities but completely overpriced. Good if you want to show off or go to the Spa, but not worth it you want to work out for real. I have been a professional athlete in my home country, and after coming here for a week straight to deal with my personal issues (my partner got diagnosed a serious illness), I got banned over making noises while lifting heavy weights and the smell of my shocks. Probably for good, I will look for a more down to earth and affordable training facilities to release my sadness.

One more night here, rooms excellent clean spacious beautiful king-size bed, great shower and bath and nice view from window. Very good front office staff, average restaurant. Spent another overnight here, breakfast was excellent with the best egg Benedict ever. Good buffet lunch spread. Great service from the restaurant supervisor. Best room views yet inmy three stays here.

The Shang here is a classic hotel with the full suite of services such as a spa/sauna as well as amenities like an impressive gym, in-room bathtub and separate shower etc. Bottled water is thoughtfully and generously provided. The attached mall comes with all the mid/high end global brand stores, foodcourt, range of F&B options as well as a well stocked supermarket at the basement. Location-wise, the hotel is walking distance from a quaint temple complex as well as tourist spots like Gobi Cashmere, the Civic Square and shops, convenience stores and such. A little bit of a tourist bubble so it’s very comfortable and comforting.

Ok service, the breakfast is not as healthy as Id like to see and if you order a glass of wine in the lobby its less than half filled! Most notable part is that you get access to a modern gym and mall.

The rooms are nice and well kept. The beds were surprisingly hard for a luxury 5 star hotel. We did not sleep very well on them. For me, comfort is the most important. The service of the people throughout the hotel was good until we ordered room service. They were out of two desserts we tried to order. We then settled for brownies with our dinner, but we never got them. The location is walking distance to major areas which was nice.

Went to try their Women’s day special High tea and was hugely disappointed. The mousses had a refrigerator taste, the macarons were so dry, the cherry compote had a sour taste to it and there was way too much red colouring in some of the desserts. The only thing I enjoyed was the salmon croissant sandwich, we could not finish the desserts. I was hoping to have a nice afternoon with my mother, but the desserts just made me sad. For 89k I’d expect to get some decent food, but apparently not.

NOT BAD BUT... excellent: Cleaning, Lobby, Service, Front Desk, not excellent: breakfast, a lot of quantity poor of quality. Service slow and tables not perfect! bad: A/C system worthy of a trucker's Route 66 motel. bad and inefficient. noisy. If you are a light sleeper it will be a problem.

I could not have picked a better place to stay in all of Ulaanbaatar. The staff is without question the most welcoming and considerate people I have ever met. From start to finish my stay was a great experience. After staying for 3 months, the staff became like a second family. I could only hope that more business were ran as efficiently and well as the Shangri-La.

The most modern mall in entire Mongolia! Big stores of many famous and luxury international and Mongolian brands, fresh and fancy interior design. Many stores to visit, restaurants, bakery, supermarket, cinema, spa, hotel, fitness and what not!

The Shangri La is a lovely hotel. The entrance is beautiful and a nice place to have tea in the afternoon. The staff are super friendly and very attentive. When we had to depart early they had breakfast ready for us to take away including a gluten free option.

Probably the best hotel in Mongolia. Rooms are decent and location is good next to the mall. Breakfast can be better compared to high Shangrila standards

Was really looking forward to our stay here, had asked for a extra bed for our son, we arrived in our room and no bed was made up, we called 2 times to reception and no one came, it is now 1am in the morning and there is no bed made up still. I went down to reception and the manager told me they had 90% occupancy and only him and one other person working in the hotel who is fixing something so the manager has to come up to make the bed and we are still waiting it is 1:20 am !!!! Unbelievable !!!! Terrible service from any hotel let alone a Shangri La, save your money and go elsewhere !

Stayed for 4 nights. Unfortunately have to agree with the reviews mentioning the price and level of the hotel not corresponding the subpar service. That’s supposed to be the best and most luxurious hotel in UB! There were some moments where I thought I am judgmental and it „reformed“, for instance a very sweet thoughtful birthday surprise in our room upon arrival (thanks to the team!), but then we sit in the lounge for 40 min waiting for our breakfast order until I come to the employee at the reception directly and ask to find out that she simply „forgot“….Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand that workers can be overwhelmed with work and be busy, but we were the only people having breakfast at the lounge that day. Or one day we came to our room in the evening to find someone else’s luggage was delivered to it and stood there for several hours…the list can go on! Not too much attention to detail unfortunately. Doorman and couple of employees were the only ones I ever received a short smile in return. People make the difference. There is a sport club, but note that it’s located in other tower so one needs to go all the way across in swimming/sport attire or change on spot. It is not exclusively for hotel guests and we were practically in the pool during a swimming lesson. Not a problem, but It did not appear obvious to me during booking. But enough about minuses. Facilities overall are pretty good, although not brand new, room is well-appointed, spacious and clean. Horizon Club Lounge breakfast and evening canapes offered quite a balanced variety and one always had a choice as well as could enjoy amazing views at Bogd Khan right opposite in almost full serenity, was never crowded. Hotel is located right in the center, two steps across a decent shopping mall with several restaurants and coffee shops and walking distance from a number of tourist attractions (Sukhbaatar Square, Choijin Lam Temple, National Museum of Mongolia, Chinggis Khaan Museum) so a good base to explore UB and surroundings. Mixed impression overall.

I selected this hotel based on its location and reputation. However, I was disappointed by the poor service, unfriendly front desk staff, and rude cleaning lady. The amenities were lacking, the rooms felt unclean, and despite returning at 2pm the following day, the room remained uncleaned. The high price does not align with the subpar service they offer. The noise from the air conditioner was incredibly loud, surpassing even the disturbance of living on a main road. I believe there are more affordable alternatives available that offer superior service, cleaner rooms, and more up-to-date amenities.

We didn't stay here but used the facilities. There's no getting away from it, this is the best hotel in Ulaanbaatar. It's pricey for sure, but the whole place is classy. Traffic is SOOOOOO bad in Ulaanbaatar, that the price to stay here would be something I was willing to swallow to save my sanity (traffic here makes Delhi look like a German autobahn). We used the Nadaam bar on the 1st floor, super cool and nice cocktails. I was also using the fitness centre (3rd floor of the mall but connects directly into the hotel via walkway). 25m pool, 5 or 6 swimming lanes, wasn't very busy and it cost 50k tugrik (about 13 eur). Very reasonable for the service you got. That also included the gym if needed. Didn't eat there, although used the Imax cinema in the Shangrila Mall complex next door (Topgun Maverick - awesome). If I was going back to Ulaanbaatar, i'd swallow the price, and enjoy the luxury. This is a true 5 star hotel.

Excellent and first class hotel in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Location is one of the best for local stores and restaurants.

Definitely one of the nicest malls in the city, reminds me the malls in the States. You can find all kinds of clothing and beauty brands, a movie theatre and food court on the 4th floor

I enjoyed stay, during my stay I was on the 21 floor. Unfortunately the service in the Bar on the 21st Floor was unavailable. Although closed for service, It would have still been nice to use this area for work. Staff where really nice and helpful. Points where not added to membership which was disappointing. I called the day after departure and was told these points could not be added.

The hotel is new and very convenient, while their complex includes a gym, supermarket, and shopping mall.

Great experience. Big room. Location is the best in town. Recognised my Jade status so upgraded to 18th from and granted lounge access. Breakfast is good but not special.

Beautiful rooms, disastrous check in and housekeeping staff, it’s as if they were making you a favour when you ask for something. Front desk and contact phone almost impossible to reach.

Rooms should be updated, but for the rest it's all excellent. Best is the location near the main square and theaters. Still a 15 minute walk (includes 5 minutes of traffic lights as they are really bad in UB towards pedestrians) to the state Department Store and Beatles Square. The adjoining mall is not big, but not small rather. 4 floors including a foodcourt. It's a mix of shops with the more exlusuve ones on the ground floor.

2018 October 20th early morning whoever was working at the front desk counter told me that it's ok to check in early and it will not cost any extra charge...It's been 5 years and I still can't forget how I had to pay extra $200 because of her mistakes. It's not even about the money but how I was forced to pay even though it's the mistake of hotel employee. Pretty traumatizing experience.
