So many paintings and frescos are here. Antonello de Messina’s Annunciata is the most important. But you can stare a long time at “Trionfo della Morte” and reflect on it. I was simply captivated by this collection, not to mention all those Baroque paintings and Pietro Novelli’s oeuvre. More than perfect and entry for only 8 Euro.

Palazzo Abatellis is a magnificent palace and art museum located in the heart of Palermo, Italy. The building dates back to the 15th century and was originally built for the noble Abatellis family. The palace has since been converted into a museum, showcasing a wide range of art and artifacts from Sicily's rich cultural history. The museum's collection includes works from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, with an emphasis on Sicilian art. Visitors can admire a diverse range of exhibits, including sculptures, paintings, and decorative arts, including ceramics and tapestries. The palace's architecture is breathtaking, with a beautiful courtyard, ornate balconies, and a stunning marble staircase. The museum's layout is easy to navigate, with informative signage that provides context and background information on the exhibits. The staff at Palazzo Abatellis is friendly and knowledgeable, providing helpful insights and answering questions. The museum also offers guided tours and audio guides, which are highly recommended to enhance the visitor's experience. Overall, Palazzo Abatellis is an exceptional museum that offers a unique glimpse into Sicily's rich cultural heritage. The combination of stunning architecture, a diverse collection of art, and knowledgeable staff make it an excellent destination for art lovers and history buffs alike.

This is the National Gallery of Sicily. Well worth a visit but mainly displays religious paintings from the 15th & 16th century. Not huge, under 20 rooms in total but well arranged. We spent about 2 hrs at this museum.

A little gem located in one of the oldest part of the beautiful city of Palermo. The Triumph of Death (il trionfo della morte) and the Annunziata (by Donatello da Messina) worth alone the visit, alongside several masterpiece (mainly paintings) from Middle Ages on. Don't miss the sculpture of Eleonora D'Aragona (by Francesco Laurana), a real beauty.

It was very quiet, the time was endless and the Art from the 12./13./14./15.th century was really great...

A museum with lots of works of art. Inside it is a beautiful painting which is “bigger” than the museum itself! Go and find it! Enjoy!

My love is small regional museums - I realized it today, visiting this one. I appreciate unframed works, big spaces, very friendly staff. I realized they are closing (public holiday), only when one of the workers had gently escorted me down the stairs, chatting. I so appreciated it! “Annunciata” is the must - it is Italy’s national treasure. Excellent museum, thank you!

Unbelievably offensive staff. My wife and I had been in the gallery for an hour or so. We were looking at a painting when a woman appeared, shouting aggressively at us in Italian. She seemed almost beside herself. Neither of us speaks Italian so we had no idea what we were supposed to be doing wrong. Apparently the gallery was about to close! An attendant was sitting nearby who could have quite simply and politely advised us of the situation. Bizarre behaviour, especially in such surroundings. Perhaps some staff training would be in order.

Precious museum with late middle age, early renacimiento peces of art. The majority of them are locally made. Worth a visit, for sure.

Lots of Italian artworks mainly religious in theme. Lots of 14th & 15th century pieces. €8 entry. Better signage on the pieces would be good

Amazing collection. The best art museum I visited in Sicily.

Today there were several rooms closed to the public. I'm not sure why or how long they will be closed. The Messina L'Annunziata was still on display, so that prevented a total disappointment. But still, it would have been nice to be offered a discounted ticket for the absence of these rooms.

The artworks are incredible. The Triumph of Death, and the Virgin of the Annunciation by Antonello da Messina alone are worth the entrance fee. But...the place looks shabby and unloved. The staff is mostly made up of bored middle aged men in a constant state of grumpiness. The museum looks badly dated with faded labelling, poor lighting, and shabby laminated info panels. I would have forgiven this in a lesser museum but not in a place that boasts of being the principal museum of the region. Sicily deserves better.

I had an amazing interaction with one of the attendants, the lady was very knowledgeable and shared some great information on 'the triumph of death' or 'Trionfo della morte' fresco and the 'Annunsiazione' I unfortunately didn't get her name to credit her but some of the artworks were amazing and worth seeing the Vasari works too.

Mostly biblical art and church artifacts-decorations in a nice building. I am usually not much into this; but I liked the collection here; and some paintings were magnificient

The sheer size and the ability of the artist who created the Triumph of Death will leave you breathless.... the beauty of these regional gallery is the art is good, very accessible and often not crowded... and this one is exceptional.

Probably my favorite museum in Palermo, with a beautiful collection of medieval and Renaissance christian art. Would be worth going for the medieval triptych rooms alone.

Outstanding collection in a well organized exhibition space. Unfortunately, the lighting design leaves something to be desired.

If you're into loads of paintings of Madonna, Jesus, various saints, etc. you'll love it here. If not, it's still an OK experience for a few bucks.

Wonderful collection with relevant masterpieces but we lacked fresh air

Was not expecting this to be good. But this is good. Also fun to spot all the Minne di Vergine in the pictures (and then go to the dolceria in the monastery to get one)
