The self check in was a nightmare. Carlos was fantastic. The hot tubs need repair / updating and needed to be warmer, but with minor improvements this hotel could get a higher rating. We were charged 250 security deposits for having wine in the hot tub, which I didn't know was against the rules and no one called to warn us. The charge only showed up after I left a four star review. I probably stay in about 6 hotels a month, and this is the first hotel I would never step foot back into.

Loved everything about Boxotel! The check-in process was easy, the rooms were perfectly sized with comfy beds and great showers! The location is more than ideal. Access to the top floor sauna and hot tub outdoors is such a nice touch, plus there’s a cool gym with mini rock climbing wall in the basement. There’s also a fantastic coffee machine with delicious coffee in the lobby and small food items for breakfast that are complimentary. It felt like home away from home. Certainly looking forward to returning to Boxotel next time we visit Montreal!

This is my all-time favourite hotel (and I have stayed at 5 star hotels etc). Why? It's a true curated experience. From the rooftop spa, to the uber-comfortable Murphy beds (you can pop them up if you want floor space or to entertain), to the heated bathroom floors, to the cozy chic bathrobes, to the pine-scented bath salts, to the laundry in-suites, they have thought of everything. Staff is so kind and helpful. I hope they bring back the café/restaurant, but otherwise this is a perfect hotel!

Nice area of town. Friendly staff. Hidden fees. Layout looks like a prison cell. Beds are Ikea furniture, not what I expect from a 4star hotel. Spa is decent. Not worth the price.

This hotel went beyond our expectations! Our airbnb was surprisingly disappointing so we booked this last minute. Staffed by kindest and friendliest people (with sweet pups in their office that are happy to say hello for a pet if you’re interested)! Our room was clean, quiet, unique, and creative. We loved the smart home features and felt like everything was very well thought out with features like heated flooring, memory foam mattress, and even an entire kitchen. The shower was modernized and so comfortable. The details were above and beyond compared to the standard hotel room.

We were lucky enough to have nearly a 2 week stay recently at Boxotel and could not have been happier with our stay - it was perfect! Our room was beautifully designed - with so much thought gone into providing such a high level of practical comfort. Everywhere is spotless. The roof terrace, hot tub, and gym are wonderful - such a lovely way to relax. Carlos could not be a nicer manager - so kind, helpful and really genuinely concerned that you are having a good stay. The location is great in a really cool, yet central, arty neighbourhood. And then just all the little extras - the hotel bird greeting us, the lovely plants in reception, delicious cookies and coffee every morning - there is nothing that is less than perfect about this hotel!

My husband, dog and I loved our stay here! Easy check-in, comfy rooms, and great common spaces. We took advantage of the sauna, rooftop hot tub, espresso bar, and gym. Great location too- we walked to Mile End, China town, and the Park Royal. We'll be back to enjoy the fall!

Had a wonderful 2-night stay here at the end of September. The room is spacious, clean, and has a lot of appliances! A full kitchen and washer/dryer! Their soaps and lotions in the bathroom smelled great as well. Check in and check out were via a kiosk and went by smoothly. We parked in the lot across the street for both nights. I will say it gets completely full at night so park early. Also, I saw a car with its window completely broken in one morning, so make sure you don’t leave any valuables visible. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue parking in that lot after seeing the other car, but my car was fine both nights.

Love it here when I'm in Montreal for more than just a day trip! Service was friendly and helpful during check in/out. We loved the amenities and took advantage of the sauna and tub whenever we had downtime. The rooms are clean and it's very convenient to be able to do laundry and cook in the same space. Location is pretty stellar as Old Montreal and Chinatown aren't too far out and public transit is close by. The public parking lot across the building does fill up as it is pretty small so if you're travelling by car I would be wary of that.

We stayed here for a night in the comfort suite. The room is very nice, clean and modern. I was impressed with the amenities in the room that other hotels usually don’t have. Breakfast was nice. The only flaw in the room is that the bathroom walls are all glass. It’s blurred but very much see-through so might be awkward if rooming with friends. The staff were kind and helpful too. I would definitely come here again

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and had a very pleasant experience. The check in and check out process were smooth and directions were super clear. Though there are no crew on location after ~6 PM, I still got the support I needed. The room was clean and equipped with everything I needed. I loved everything about the room. The parking was right across the hotel. We paid $20 a day and it was convenient. also in walkable distance were many pubs and restaurants. It’s also close to many attractions. So 10/10 for location The sauna was compact and perfect. The hot tub in the terrace was great too. Will definitely stay here the next time we’re in Montreal

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at the Boxotel! About the Room: We previously lived in NYC for 10 years and this hotel felt like a SoHo apartment. Everything is well thought out and arranged in such a simple yet elegant way. The mattress was one of the best we've ever slept on in a hotel. I loved the layout of the room and the overall aesthetics. The shower felt so relaxing (they have spa-like shampoo/conditioner/soap) and the shower heads were amazing. This room is definitely a better set up for a couple, but I still felt the frosted glass provided enough privacy. I love that all the rooms have a refrigerator, freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove and utensils! We didn't utilize all of these since we were only there for two nights, but it's great to have the option. Service: The service here is impeccable! Carlos is the nicest manager ever and he really cares about every guest that comes to the hotel. I wish every hotel had someone just like him. He made our stay amazing. The hotel does state this very clearly on their website, but it's good to note you need to check in before 10:00 pm or you could be subject to a fee. Although, I am sure they are understanding if your flight was delayed, etc. Location: You can walk to just about everything in downtown Montreal or take the metro if it's further. It's located in the Quartier des Spectacles district, which is part of Downtown Montreal. It's not right in the middle of downtown, which is nice since it's a little more peaceful. The parking is cheaper in this area as well, with a nightly rate of $20 CAD for the parking lot across the street. Miscellaneous: The hotel has an amazing espresso/coffee machine and in the morning they have yogurt (including vegan options which are so delicious!) and breakfast cookies. There is a cute communal area that you can sit in and enjoy your breakfast. There is even a sweet rescue bird named Boxi that is there to greet you each day. We took advantage of the rooftop, hot tub and sauna while there. It was much needed after getting 30,000 steps each day! Also, they are environmentally conscious and I love that they're focused on sustainability (reusable cups, water station, compostable bins, no single-use plastics, etc.). Overall: Lovely experience. Thank you for the memorable stay! We hope to come back in the fall and the winter for the Winter Festival! Hopefully the rates stay the same because it's so affordable for everything you get. :-) - Mae and Billy

What a great experience. Such a unique and very well thought thru project. Very clean rooms and hotel overall. Hotel equipped with a gym, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Boxotel is one of the best hotel that I've ever stayed in. Excellent location, walkable distance to restaurants and attractions. Excellent team, that truly care about the customers and their pets. We are looking forward to come back again.

Beautiful, modern hotel with nifty smart features. Self check-in process was a breeze. Carlos was very accommodating of our late check-in. Beautiful rooms with automated curtains and lights, modern cement flooring, a comfortable murphy bed with the coziest bedding we've had at a hotel. Casting feature on the TV was a nice feature. The terrace was a perfect way to relax after a long drive with a nice hot tub and resistance pool, unfortunately some of the jets weren't working on the hot tub, but that's not uncommon for tub used by the public. Breakfast was enjoyed in the tranquil lobby with well maintained plants, calming cafe music and Boxii (sp?) the dove keeping us company. The location was perfect walking or Bixi distance to everywhere we had planned to visit, close to Metro for activities further away. Definitely in the top ten of all the hotels we've stayed at around the world.

10/10 stay at the Boxotel. The whole property (including rooms) is meticulously cared for and thoughtfully designed. Had a wonderful 3 days stay for work and play. Extra thanks to Carlos, the general manager, who was incredibly kind and accommodating! Also - the steam room, sauna and gym are 👌

This was my first time visiting Canada so I decided to take a trip to Montreal. I searched around for hotels and found the Boxotel. I think what immediately grabbed my attention was how modern and sleek the rooms looked on their website. I booked a 5 night stay. Upon my arrival, despite the construction occurring right in front of the hotel doors, I was greeted by a young man who helped me check in. Afterwards, another guy, who I assumed was the owner, got my room keys and then I went to my car to unpacked my luggage. I was surprised to see him outside and willing to help guide me as I entered the hotel with my things. In other words, I was warmly welcomed from the moment I got there. That kind of attentiveness and kindness is something you don't see here in New Jersey. I could probably write a book about my 5 nights but I'll try and keep it short. Everything about this hotel and my experience was incredible and memorable, from how clean and well stocked the rooms were (they had everything you need for your stay: cups, cutlery, pans/pots, toaster, french press and teapot) to the hot tub and Turkish bath on the top floor which were totally welcome after all the walking I did. But the highlight was all the staff who were so kind and greeted you with what I know was the most genuine smiles and positive attitudes that I've ever felt, and yes, that includes Boxie, the rescue dove. I can't emphasize what a treat it was to hear her every morning as I got my yogurt and coffee/tea. Let me add that the entrance was beautiful with all the plants and a lemon tree! It felt like a living room, and not a hotel. Something that was a major plus about this place is how close everything is, literally walking distance, and dare I say almost dead center to a lot of major locations and parks. Downtown Montreal is but a few streets away. Notre Dame Basilica, St. Joseph's Oratory, Mount Royal Park, Park La Fontaine all surround the hotel. There are parking garages all around, but the one down the street was the closest and most convenient. Overall, the stay was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a hotel. Do yourself a favor and book a room here. You won't be disappointed. I just want to say thank you all for such a wonderful experience and making my vacation something I certainly won't forget. If I ever come back to Montreal, I'm absolutely staying again at the Boxotel!

Like I was, I'm sure you're reading reviews trying to get the best handle on the best options for your money in Montreal. I, personally, had never been so it was hard to get the lay of the land, where to stay and what quality of experience to choose. A few nights before I stayed at the Monville (which was also excellent) but found this gem for the back half of my trip. Boxotel is a strong contender for best hotel I've stayed at, period. 34 yr old single male who wanted something personable yet quiet and independent in good location. You'll find that the high rise hotels downtown are centered around the metro and quicker walks to the old port, however, the Boxotel is closer to Mont Royal and a more local feel. McGill is close so you get a bit more of the urban, local, city vibe. Boxotel also had free city bikes to use as long as you wanted which made my trips to the old port 10-12 min by bike. What sets Boxotel apart is the service. There was a nice gentleman Carlos as the concierge and manager. He was a pleasant, warm personality who was always interested to talk and share how your day was. He was great at picking dining options which I fully took advantage of. Rooms - 10, nicely appointed and designed for comfort and relaxation. Every detail is taken care of. Service - 11 Location - 10, Mont Royal is a must and this place gives you better options to explore the entire city rather just the tourist old port.

The room was amazing. The bed was very comfortable and I had restful sleeps, the fully equipped kitchen was really useful and the spa like bathroom with the incredible products allowed me to pamper myself. I enjoyed the rooftop jacuzzi with a view of Montreal and the spa was so soothing. Well located in downtown Montreal, it was a short walk from cafés, restaurants and shops. The staff was friendly and they made sure that I felt at home away from home.

We booked 4 nights at Boxotel for our first trip to Montreal after seeing the great reviews and amenities - who doesn't love a hot tub on the roof?! We really couldn't have made a better choice, we had an amazing stay! The cookies and yoghurts for breakfast were delicious and the tea and coffee facilities very much appreciated. The room was spacious with an extremely comfy bed and lovely little touches, the bath by the window was particularly cool! The location is also perfect, the hotel has Bixi keys you can use to hire the bikes and cycle all over the neighborhood. We really loved exploring Montreal this way! (So sorry again for hogging the keys haha!) The real stand out of the experience however was Carlos, the manager. He was so friendly and kind to us, recommending restaurants and things to do in the local area and beyond. All great recommendations by the way! We also loved meeting his sweet little dog- a definite bonus for dog lovers! If you're looking for a stay in Montreal i can't recommend Boxotel enough. It's the perfect mix of stylish and minimalist but still very welcoming. We're already looking to book our next trip! Thanks again to Carlos and the team for the perfect stay!

Small but very well designed rooms. You can find everything you may need in the kitchenette of the room. Fresh coffee or tea and fruits, cookies are waiting in the lobby as a very great surprise. Easy to reach out public transfer, lots of nice cafes and restaurants in walking distance. Definitely we will come back:)

A Scandinavian spa-like experience that my husband and I are still talking about, weeks later. The gentleman on-site named Carlos was available even over Christmas and was super friendly and accommodating throughout our stay, the self check-in was simple, the free morning coffee was delicious and we were able to do laundry, a load in the dishwasher and cook a homemade meal all in the comfort of our room. The rooftop spa was the absolute cherry on top, and we will definitely be back in the summertime.

This was my first visit to Montreal and my first solo trip and I couldn't have picked a better hotel. It's in a cozy neighborhood where it's easy to get around by walking or biking. My room was cozy and immediately became my home away from home. I appreciated the amenities and the balcony. After a long day of exploring, I'd haul my sore, tired body up to the rooftop for a soak in the hot tub and a sauna session. The bed was incredibly comfortable. I got fruit, tea, and a scone every morning from the little breakfast/coffee/tea bar. The staff was friendly and helpful when I cut my finger and needed a bandaid before a tour I was going on. I liked the high-tech features and how customizable the space was. I highly recommend this adorable, quiet hotel.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at! We stayed for 4 nights and loved everything about the room. Super clean, spacious, compact and has everything you need. The rooftop was beautiful and the staff were very welcoming and kind. Will be sure to visit again!

We loved our stay in Montreal, in large part due to the comfort and quiet luxury of Boxotel. It was a wonderful place to come back to after long days of walking around and exploring the nearby neighborhoods. All the accomodations were top notch, it was great having access to a kitchenette and w/d in our room, and the soaking in the bathtub after a long day was the cherry on top. In the mornings there was an array of delicious yogurt, coffee/espresso, fruit, and pastries in the lobby. The rooftop and gym were also a well equipped and cared for. During the day we parked in the public lot across the street, as we were coming and going; and at night we moved our car to the underground Indigo garage around the corner for a reasonable fee. Highly recommended and Carlos was so hospitable and helpful.

We took a pre-xmas trip to Montreal and chose the Boxotel specifically because we wanted a hot tub and in-room jacuzzi during our stay. Both did not disappoint! We loved the modern and open concept feel of the room, plus the heated bathroom floors were great (i feel like this is typical in Canada but it isn't in the US). Parking across the street was only $15 per day which was very convenient (we're from Boston so $15 a day is a bargain to us). There were also all homemade shower and bath products in the room which smelled great!

Really nothing to complain about. This is the way a boutique hotel should be! Great staff and the rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed with delightful touches. Spa room is also great and you can do self check in. Most of the time we never saw or heard any other guests during our stay even in the holiday season, which was amazing. I would be very curious to hear what mattress and bedding they use as it was one of the best I've experienced in a hotel.

We recently took a 2 week, cross country trip and the Boxotel was one of the more pleasant surprises of trip. We highly recommend it! First, it was CLEAN (the most important thing). We found the room to be very well laid out and designed - imagine IKEA designed a hotel room. It was small, but very functional and enjoyable. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was high quality. The washer and dryer were great! We particularly enjoyed the rooftop hot tub and sauna each night.

  • 5/5 Joseph C. 1 year ago on Google
From the time we arrived we felt welcomed. The room exceeded our expectations but it was the sincerity of both Carlo and Mary-Jane that made the overall experience a memorable one. Definitely will be returning to Boxotel and won't consider any other place to stay.

A fantastic stay at Boxotel. Location was good within easy walking distance to downtown and the old town. St Denis just around the corner. Rooms were spotless and modern with nice touches like electric curtains and wireless charging points. Balcony and kitchen were a bonus. Another highlight was the rooftop jacuzzis and sauna area with good views. What's more, the staff were great. Very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again if in Montreal.

Stayed here for just one night to end a week long stay in Montréal and I am so happy we did! The Boxotel amenities were fantastic, and the lady working on the main floor was friendly and helpful. We really appreciated how technologically equipped some of the room features were, and it was great having a morning snack at their little breakfast bar. Checking in and checking out was so easy with their QR code system as well. I would love to come back one day and continue making good use of the amenities and comfy rooms. Merci pour tout!

Boxotel, thank you SO much! We had a fantastic 2 night stay and thoroughly enjoyed the clean, modern, amenities and great design of the space. The family loft was ideal for travelling with children including a well-equipped kitchen, washer and dyer and our son loved the roof top gym and spa.. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed at Boxotel for 2 nights and wished that we could have stayed longer. The room we stayed in had everything we needed. The terrace is really amazing and great for an afternoon dip in the hot tub. The staff are amazing and were very helpful, before and during our stay. Boxotel is located in a great location and we could walk to most tourist attractions. We highly recommend Boxotel.
