Why was it poor? well that's a great question. My friend reserved a room for the whole weekend. We spent the friday night at the hotel. We left for a few minutes to go smoke outside and when we came back our wallets were gone. There was a bunch of guys from the room next to ours that (we still don't know how) came into our room and stole our stuff. The police came and found our stuff in their room (but not all of it). The best part is, the hotel never kicked them out until the next day. Also, the hotel refused to refund my room and had no cameras to show how they entered our room. Very bad service. Avoid this place at all cost.

Customer service is absolutely perfect! We asked for change room due we want non smoking room, receptionist happily change immediately. What a quick satisfied service! Room price is lowest among nearby motel rooms. Parking lot is huge.Location is good and near downtown. The negative point is old facility and moderate cleanness. Since it is cheap motel, it is difficult to set high expectation. Overall, it is good place to visit if you are looking for friendly budget motel.

Not that clean when we aravied there was a stain on our pillow and bed sheet. Walls are paper thin, it's modern ish looking which is nice but the beds are not that comfy. Also we did see the cleaning lady coughing and she was not wearing a mask. Everything else what pretty clean bathroom was fine. Not the best but it works. We had 2 rooms and in one 2 people were sharing but we only had one towel for 3 days and she said she would bring us some and wrote our name and room down but never did.

Decent for the price. Staff (when there) were nice. They don’t tell you there is no one at the front desk between 10pm and 8am. I had to leave earlier and I had given them $100 cash as a deposit. The sign they had said to come back during working hours. Had to refund the cash to a credit card. What a mess. Wouldn’t recommend.

Wow. Where do I start. The grounds are filthy. The workers here don't clean the parking lot of garbage. They NEVER clear the parking lot of snow. PEROID. They do like to throw TONNES of salt just by the entrance doors. The never clean the hallways. Ever. For the size of room you rent per month. ..it's BLOODY highway robbery. They should be ashamed.

It's acceptable, Don't look here for Sheraton, Hilton, or Frontenac environment and feelings. If you travel cheaply, it's OK. The white clean bed sheets and clean white towels make it more comfortable, but overall, the building is old, and the washroom and shower are not fancy. It's not the first, 2nd, or even 3rd choice, but in high season that even AIRBNB is more expensive. It's just a place to sleep and take a shower.

The worst hotel ever front desk was rude. She asked me to pay the deposit with debit card because I will get it faster back to my account and I did. So I pay the hotel with my master card and the deposit with my debit card one month after I never got my deposit back so when I call someone told me that the deposit was refund on my master card the same day I stayed at the hotel, non sense. She was rude and put me on hold. Don't stay at this hotel. Please avoid to pay the deposit cash or with debit card if they ask you it a scam.

Trop expensive. And no amenities. Only the basic, but ok for a good night sleep. The bathrooms are not so clean, they can used a good deep clean.

We had arrived in a room where there was a lot of noise. In the end, we went to the reception to complain. A big thank you to the manager Angelina who was very professional and accompanied us to see other rooms. Impeccable service, we will definitely be back

I have checked in Saturday, April 22nd and was told to make 100$ security deposit which will be returned when I check out. I checked out the same day. Have called the Hotel but was rudely replied by an agent that it will be returned after 5 business day, Friday is not a business day according to her. Now there has been 7buissiness days passed and haven't received the security deposit back. On top of that the management is not cooperating and is extremely rude and disrespectful. Whenever I called and sought the explanation, my call was hung or ignored. I finally exchanged an email where sent the photo of my hotel receipt. The agent replied me back with photo of transaction showing 100$ deposit was returned on same day, but this transaction was not related to me and deposit was made into someone else. I humbly requested the agent to pay attention to this tiny mistake where he acknowledged the MISMANAGEMENT and told me to wait another 3-5buissiness day for refund.

No hot water, my door got stuck and and the custodian had to kick it in to let me leave my room, causing the door frame to splinter, which I have video and photos of. The phone didn't work. Two of the front desk employees claimed to be managers and were EXTREMELY unprofessional and just plain mean to me. I asked for their names just to write a nice review but they treated me like trash. Four other guests were there to witness this. The ACTUAL manager (a very kind gentleman) was an angel and he was wonderful and kind enough to switch my room. He was the best hotel manager I have ever encountered. Thank you kind Sir! The woman with long blonde hair and the woman with brown hair at the desk were unbelievably unprofessional. I never received my deposit back and was promised a full refund. Which I never received. I was charged $300 and she called my room to tell me to leave. I am still owed $300. I was waiting to see my husband after his work trip, tipped everyone well and was kind and polite. My husband booked the room under his name, and when he arrived after traveling for 8 hours across the country to see me she did not allow him to enter until she finally figured out it was under his name even though I paid. I also have Autism and I explained that to the women claiming to both be managers. This is an abuse of human rights and inappropriate behaviour towards someone who is Disabled. The hallways smelled like cigarette smoke, the television did not work properly, and the bartender was extremely rude. I went to have a cocktail and she ignored me for a solid 5 minutes before rudely asking "what do you want?" While flirting with another customer, make his drinks first then took a cigarette break and a personal cell phone call before serving me. So I paid $300 for being mistreated, verbally abused, locked in a room, and being taken advantage of because of my Disability. Even though I clearly stated that I am Autistic. Regardless of my disability, the behaviour displayed by the staff was despicable. The only exceptions were the very kind and professional male manager, the kind and understanding custodian who freed me, the receptionist lady who I first met (kind and sweet with pink polished nails who checked me in but was done her shift when I left) and the lovely lady who was taking care of the rooms, she gave me extra towels and had a lovely smile. The restaurant at the hotel has unprofessional and rude staff but the food is delicious and they have fantastic cheesecake. In conclusion, I want my $300 back. And I would definitely come back if those two women did not work there.

I book my reservation through online third party app. Room are near and clean looks like new property but their washroom are very small. Also they charged me twice for the deposit amount and never bring back to my account yet. Try to call their online no but no one Answare also reach out through email regarding my concerns but their services are very slow still my deposit issues are unsolved. I would not recommend for this hotel and never book again in future 👎👎

This hotel is cheap and out of the way. I didn't have a horrible experience here, but there are things to watch out for. Pros: room was a good size and included all amenities described. The rooms each have a large personal air conditioner that is fantastic. Beds were comfortable, pillows were plentiful and power outlets and washroom resources were all plentiful as well. The area of the city is serviceable with nearby Italian restaurants, easy delivery access and a grocery store. Parking is free. Transit is easily accessible with two bus routes that go directly to metro stations, even late at night. Cons: the cleanliness of the hallways, corners of the washroom, surfaces that wouldn't be touched much etc. were visibly lacking. We plugged our toilet and the service phone line was busy nomatter what time of day we tried it. I had to go to the front desk to request somebody with a plunger and then had to wait in my room for them to arrive. It required multiple plungings and depending on when we requested help, we sometimes had nobody show up at all and simply had to wait until the following day. The room had a coffee maker but no spoons. The room had an electric burner unit but no pots or pans. The room had a closet but no hangers. The sink drain was very slow because previous occupant's hair had not been cleaned from it. I requested more towels at one point and did not receive them, ended up being easier swiping them off the back of a cleaning dolly in the hallway. Everyone in our party had to get our magnetic access cards replaced at least once because they simply stopped working, but replacing them was an easy process at the front desk. My room had a small standing-room-only shower stall with a shower head that didn't adjust downwards enough to make showering easy. Required a lot of holding my arms up to direct the water where it needed to go. Overall the hotel is fine if you just need a cheap place in Montreal to be your sleeping pad, but it leaves things to be desired if you're going to be spending your time here. It is all about the price, and the very low price means that expectations should stay low, too.

Didn’t refund the damage deposit after 9 business days and leave us on hold or hang up calls made to the desk about the issue

For being the cheapest place in Montreal near where we wanted to stay I have no complaints. Clean hotel lobby , clean beds and clean room. I was worried with all the reviews on here but it proved to be better than expected!

Motel, NOT a Hotel. The hallway leading to the room stank of cigarettes. The floor in the room, fake wood instead of the very unsanitary standard carpet hadn't been moped between guests which was noticeable. The bathroom, the ceiling fan was a joke and didn't do what a fan is meant for. The shower head was loose and falling out of the wall. The bathroom was not fully stocked as per normal hotel/motel standards. Even a 2 star roach motel gives you more than one roll of toilet paper and one set of towels!

It wasn’t the greatest hotel. The hallways smelled of smoke and bit mouldy. Although the beds and pillows were super comfy. Customer service wasn’t the best either but not the greatest. It was passable. Bonus was that our room was at the end of the first floor hallways so we didn’t come through the front door. Even passing through their restaurant/bar it felt dark and smelled of smoke. The walls are super thin heard a whole convo from the next room.

The room was super dirty, someone had spilled coffee on the floor before us and it was obviously not cleaned as it was very sticky. We asked for room service to come help and they handed us a mop. In the end we ended up wiping the floor clean with towels ourselves. The bed sheets had holes, and the bed was not comfortable at all as the whole room felt and was dirty. The bathroom and room itself was nothing like the pictures posted, it was small and again unclean. Also, they only give you 2 towels unless you ask for more even if 4 people are checked into your room. Also, there was an unbearably strong cigarette smell in the “non-smoking rooms”. Not good for families, singles, or anyone really. The only nice part is the lobby, which they made sure to feature on the internet while neglecting the rooms.

The room it's okay it's good to stay a night if you don't have time to book it before. A bun of rooms to choose and change if you wanna another better room instead the room they gave or booked

Definitely not like the picture shows, it is a lot more dirty and the furniture arr cheap and outdated. I was also shocked as heck to find out that it would cost me 50$. A night for my small yorkie is absolutely ridiculous pricing and total highway robbery. On top of that, there weren't any towels in my room. Would definitely not recommend for families as the area seems shaddy.

Honestly a little overpriced for a 2-star hotel. The rooms were clean but the bathroom area is small and it’s very far from downtown Montreal, but this is the best you can get when you’re on a budget. Service was good and you can ask to have a quiet room!

Loved this hotel lots! They’re so kind and friendly. The rooms were very modern and clean I’d just say the maintenance needs to be kept up but overall this was a delightful place to stay and will probably stay again when coming to Montreal.

Positives first. They have a parking lot. Hooray! Free parking. Very friendly and helpful staff. Inexpensive. There is a bar downstairs. (Nice to bring a bottle of wine upstairs.) Negatives. The smell in my room was TERRIBLE. Smelled like a gallon of antiseptic spray to cover up some other bad smell. Every time I walked into my room it hit me. Also, it’s a bit far from “the action” in Montreal. That didn’t matter too much to me because I biked every where.

We were very happy that Newstar could accommodate us after our Airbnb booking turned to crud. It was GP weekend and the few available rooms were outrageously priced. The motel provides good basic accommodation but rooms are big and the bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom is due for an update. The team were friendly and helpful. The motel is out in the burbs but public transport to downtown Montreal is good and frequent. There is a good eat street nearby.

Room was not ready at checkin time we were fine to wait a bit. We went for a walk only to return to find that they had given our reserved room to another guest. They then moved that guest to another room and we had to wait again for them to then "clean" the room for us. I use the term clean very loosely the floor was filthy, the bed linens were dirty upon pulling back the comforter and the bathroom was not very clean either and the hotel itself was quite dirty as well. They did not seem all too sorry about the long wait to check in or the reservation screw up. Do not waste your money here. They seemed like a good choice as we are a family of five and they could accommodate us. Next time I will fork out the extra cash for a cot at a nicer place.

Great place great location I really enjoyed my stay there although it was short. Comfortable beds and a little takeout restaurant there that is to die for. Highly recommend.

Hotel was clean, beds were comfy and friendly staff. The only thing was we put the housekeeping sign on our door on our second day for clean towels for the jetted tub and our room was not serviced.

Disgusting place. Smell is terrible. Wifi doesn’t work in the rooms and they refuse to fix it. Room service is mediocre as they don’t replace dirty towels. 0/5 stars for sure.

They will not give you your money back when you give them 100$ for deposit. Worse hotel ever . They will say you will get it in 4 to 5 business working days but you will never get it.

Lung haull truck driving, hotels are part of it so this is a good spot and almost all rooms are renovated from a to z. Nothing to complain about

Returned to our room to find bugs swarming our bags. Front staff know this happen (not their fault). Spoke to owner on phone and he brushed everything off. Left without a room at 1am Photos and videos of bugs swarming the bed

Kind of a basic hotel. Stayed for canadian F1, and while expensive for what it is, cheap for that event. Nice staff, right on Montreal's excellent mass transit.

Below average motel. Don’t expect any kind of service. It’s literally a dumping place for your luggage and to crash for a night.

  • 1/5 Bella 2 years ago on Google
I give them 0 stars. I booked here and tried calling them over 20 times because I needed help with my reservation but NO ONE answered my calls. There is no customer service at this hotel. The worst service I’ve had in my life.

  • 1/5 Marra G. 1 year ago on Google
The first room was not made. They gave me another room, and for 3 days no one cleaned my room. Worst the hotel is not soundproof. The people above my room I could hear everything they make a lot of noise. The phone is constantly telling you they are serving other clients. Every night I have to get up and walk to the reception to complain. The girl who works Monday overnight gave a politely huge attitude. Overall I will not recommend this hotel to anyone

  • 5/5 Matthew F. 1 year ago on Google
Honestly, looking at some of the reviews of this hotel, it seems below par but I had a perfectly fine experience. Staff was friendly. Room was clean. Area was quiet (not the best of Montreal but if you are trying to save some money it's worth the cost). I also saw multiple reviews regarding a security deposit not being returned. I has no issue with this what so ever. I would return.

It's basic, the rooms are not that clean , it comes with a towel, napkin, liquid soap and coffee packets, iron, hair dryer, u have to carry a tooth brush, tooth paste water to drink tap water is available also probably carry a door mat as there was none and a pillow is a must. Hotel pillows will ruin your holiday, they are fat and hard could sleep well 😑

Hotel Newstar it's not a hotel. I made a reservation for 4 days in that hotel via Westgate Cruise and Travels. When I got to the location I couldn't stay even for one night due to the condition of it. I checked 3 different rooms they all have flies, ants and mold in the showers. I went to the front and told them that the rooms are not in good cleaning condition, but they didn't care. They said that my money will be refunded to my credit card, but they never did that. If you want dirty hotel, that will be the number one to stay in. I don't recommend that hotel to anyone, that nasty and disgusting hotel

The receptionist was kind and understanding but when we got to the hotel we realized that it's not nearly like the pictures. It's basically in a dark alley way and the hallway is very noisy, dirty and smells like cigarettes. Rooms are decent but bathroom tiles needed scrubbing. I do not recommend this place for families and the price does not match the place.

Not wheelchair accessible even though they lied and said that it was. Also booked for 4 nights but they only wrote us in for 2 (without us knowing) and tried to force us to leave before making us pay more to stay longer. Additionally the room had fruit flies in it when we got here. Not the best spot in this city for families, better to just stay a night here and move on. One star rating is being generous for this hotel.
