One of the interesting things to see at the Alexandrovsky Garden is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier memorial located against the Kremlin Wall near the entrance to Manezhnaya Square. This memorial was unveiled here in 1966. At that time the remains of unknown soldiers killed in the Battle of Moscow in 1941 were moved to this location as part of the 25th anniversary remembrance of the battle. Here you see an eternal flame originating from a bronze star elevating from the ground. Behind the flame is a bronze helmet and banner draped over a porphyry block. Flanked by to manned guard stations, it is a touching and solemn tribute. We found an information plaque near the memorial but it is in Russian language only so best to use your guidebook for information about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier if you are interested in seeing this attraction during your sightseeing in Moscow.

A nice relecting place. I only see the "unknown soldier" from the western perspective. Russia have millions of them, so it is nice to pay respects to those too.

(Translated by Google) Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. In 1967, the eternal flame was lit here, to which the fire of the eternal flame of the Mars field in St. Petersburg was brought here to Moscow to burn in memory of all the heroes who sacrificed their lives in World War II. A flame erupts from a five-pointed bronze star, beneath which in Russian is the inscription: "Your name is unknown, your heroic deed is immortal." In addition to official wreaths, often private individuals also place flowers here, as Russia resp. the then Soviet Union made a huge blood sacrifice in the fight against fascism. Of particular interest is that even today, the journey of newlyweds leads here for the first time after the registrar to traditionally pay tribute to the memory of the fallen. A hivatalos koszorúzásokon túl, gyakorta magánemberek is helyeznek ide virágokat, hisz Oroszország ill. az akkori Szovjetunió hatalmas véráldozatot hozott a fasizmus elleni harcban. Külön érdekesség, hogy még napjainkban is a friss házasok útja az anyakönyvvezető után először ide vezet, hogy hagyományszerűen tisztelegjenek az elesettek emléke előtt.

The Mogila of the Unknown Soldier is a memorial architectural ensemble located at the Kremlin wall in the Alexander Garden. Built in 1967 by architects Dmitry Burdin, Vladimir Klimov, Yuri Rabaev and sculptor Nikolai Tomsky. Since 1997, Post No. 1 has been located at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The monument has been given the status of an object of cultural heritage of Russia, as well as a National Memorial of Military Glory. Statesmen, delegations, heads of foreign states and governments, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and pupils of pre-university educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense annually lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on memorable dates and on some public holidays.

Monument of the eternal flame for the losses of the Russian forces, just outside the kremlin wall. Very moving. Guards there 24 hours a day. Change of the guard every hour. Do not miss this place of remembrance.

This is a monument for the Russian soldiers who left us during the WW II. There is an eternal flame glowing. There are two Russian guards, properly attired and "change of guard" happens every hour. That is also an beautiful sight to behold. It takes only 5 minutes but it's a must watch once you visit Moscow.

(Translated by Google) Everything is fine as it should. I feel sorry for the guards, they are on duty, and often not cultured people with telephones stare at them. In my opinion, the fence with the "menagerie" should be moved away from the guard and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in general.
