Overpriced and restaurant in need of a renovation. Our schnitzel was oily and tasteless and the pork has nothing special. We’ve been traveling in Germany for 10 days and the waiter Daniel was very competent in presenting the rudest service possible we had so far. As the restaurant was empty at lunch time, I guess it was great in the past but decadent at present. It can be a tourist trap, as it was for us. Don’t waste your time there.

Delicious food. I had the roasted suckling pig and the roasted duck platter. It was amazing. Pig was juicy yet the skin was crunchy and duck was full flavor. Service was top notch and friendly. Location is also amazing, very central, across the street from the opera house. Recommended!

This place was perfectly average for a tourist location in Europe. Took to long to get service. The food was so so. And it all cost a bit to much. Honestly go down a few blocks to the open air market and get some street food. It’s cheaper and will taste better. This place just has the luxury of a good location. If it wasn’t for that it wouldn’t be in business anymore. Not worth your precious vacation meals.

The location of the place is superb, the staff is very friendly. I’ve had calf’s liver with apples and purée - delicious!

We ate upstairs at the fine dining restaurant, but it was still pretty casual, not stuffy at all. They had a nice wine selection, we had a great burgundy for a very affordable price. The menu was a mix of Bavarian and French dishes. I had Bavarian duck and my wife had French style prawns both were very good. The waiter was attentive but not hovering, he allowed us to finish our wine and watch the people outside in the platz overall a very lovely experience

Good quality food. Quality service from staff but didn't get my change back after paying with Euros. Overall a decent place to eat. Very expensive though

Everything was great🤌 only thing is for me German food has way tooooo much unnecessarily potato. Could have had more greens with food. Portion was very good 💯

Treated to a Bavarian favorite. The Munich soup was very good. The braised duck was excellent, especially with the Bavarian potato garnish. The Kaiserschmarrn dessert was really unique and tasty. Great place for bringing the family, or just a stein with friends.

What a lovely gem of a restaurant! Across from the Opera, Spatenhaus is conveniently placed and offers a great view both inside and out. The staff was very nice and we were lucky to get a table without a reservation (the place got busy really fast afterwards). The pumpkin soup is divine, the obatzler was great and the veal was cooked perfectly. Cool it off with a beer and you'll be set for a nice walkcafterwards.

Traditional German food. Everything was great. Had the staples of Wiener schnitzel (veal) that comes with potatoes and salad. Shared a plate of bratwurst and mash potato in the middle. Pretzels to start great. Probably a bit on the expensive side. Imagine there are local places just as tasty for better value but can’t really go wrong here.

We loved the food here. However, one plate will be enough for two people. Especially if your getting the Bavarian plate. It comes with duck and pork and lots of food. Way too much for me. We also got the sausage plate.

It used to be better. Just very expensive with much less quality. Germans are still served first and foremost even if they order a soup. You, tourist and non-german will wait forever for a fillet that you will pay 36euros. Unprofessional, unreliable. A last choice if other places are closed.

Dont order your main meal right away if you want to sip on your beverage and relax for more than 5 mins. Your plates of food will be whisked out to you and plopped down in front of you immediately. We were not expecting this type of run and drop service for our evening meal. We didn't see our server again until we finished eating; he then asked us how everything was tasting. Luckily, we had no problems with the food. It was delicious. We had the roast duck, the crispy roast pork, and shared an apple strudel for dessert. The ambiance of the lower floor restaurant could be nice, but it's chaotic and jam-packed of tables and people. While the waiters run around frantically. At this price point, we were expecting a calm dinner at the end of a long day. This place did not deliver on that. Come for lunch.

Very nice local typical Bayern dishes. Really enjoyed the place and for sure I will be back.

Booked upstairs in advance. Gorgeous interior and professional staffs. But you can still find better schnitzel in other places, so I recommned you to try other german dishes.

Waw! At fist didn’t expect anything special, but every single piece of food was incredible. And the orders came very fast. Really Top-Notch 🥨🍻🧡

I think I had the best soup of my life here (see photo). Service was really good. I was travelling alone and they were really nice about it. Great location and very satisfying atmosphere. A refined alpine experience. The Apfel Strudel was well worth engorging myself.

Looking for an authentic meal and atmosphere, then this is the place. Don’t be afraid of the liver soup. It’s great.

I think its my personal taste that it was normal. Ordered the Bavarian duck. It was just a fried duck. The sauce was tasteless. The potato was chugging! Seemed like a gum.

A touch pricey (but expected for the location). Great location. Good portion sizes. Pork knuckle was good; sausages were ok.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Had the Sausage Plate, my husband and son had the fillet, and our friend had the Bavarian Feast. All three were best we’ve had since we’ve been in Munich. So delicious we’ll come again. Bratwurst, sausages fantastic. Dessert of crème course as just ok. Won’t get that again.

I had a plate of seasonal mushrooms with potato’s & the braised beef with onions. Both were so good i forgot to take a picture before eating!! The strudel was amazing and deserves it’s own 5 stars. The service was a 6/10 but mainly because it’s so busy so i can’t blame them! Maybe just needs a bit more staff. Beautiful view of the opera square. 💅🏼 slay Munich.

The Bavarian sausages here are amazing. We took mixed sausages and didn’t make a mistake. They also bring big portion of mustard. Drinks are also nice. Only thing, that was interfering were bees outside, so maybe even in summer time it’s better to sit inside, but if you are brave enough, you can still sit outside, just don’t order Prosecco with juice😅 Also, waiter didn’t bring beer for a long time, but that was not a problem eventually. Overall, good place to try local food😌

After spending the day at the car show, I toke my brother for his first "German" food. Not only did he eat all of his food, but somehow, his fork also landed on my plate. Safe to say, he enjoyed himself 😊 My only advice would be to have a more attentive wait staff, but apart from that, everything was good. Thank you for a clean environment with good food.

A nice, central spot to try Spaten beer (there aren't many spots). I wish you didn't have to pay for the pretzels (that are already at the table when you're seated). They did seat us as walk-ins and found us space before a later reservation arrived.

We had our dinner here on the 28 Sept and requested to sit outside, which faced the road. We were served by a middle aged lady, who often forgot our order and was slow in service. At the end, she demanded rudely we pay her a tip, totally unprofessional and she just threw the receipt on the table at the end. Shame given how good the location of the restaurant is. We will not be back.

For me it was just perfect. Compared to other crazy crowd places this one is well organized and not that crazy loud so you can maintain a conversation without shouting. The food is typical and really good and the staff is always willing to help. I do enjoy my time here thanks a lot.

Great food and service in this Bavarian restaurant that deserves a very nice spot in n the best restaurants in Munich.

Amazing place with amazing atmosphere. Food is exceptional. Service was fast and friendly. Fancy place with fancy customers. Just few negative things: there was one person sitting in front of toilet and tip is expected. First I don’t take money with me when I go to toilet and it just doesn’t make sense to give tip since restaurant is already overpriced. I didn’t like the toilet situation so I cut one star there. And as talking about price, I can understand its elegant place and expensive but it was a bit too much. But I have to say taste of food was amazing I would definitely go back.

Last day in Munich and decided to splurge on a nice dinner. Turned out to be the right choice. Very warm and lively atmosphere full of locals enjoying a great night out with friends. Ordered a Bavarian platter that was the perfect sampler of all the best foods in the house- pork knuckle, duck, sausages and sauerkraut. The side of apple kraut was the best I have ever tasted. The cheese platter was also delicious with a very unique (I’m guessing) horseradish- plum kind of jam. Overall a great dinner!

10/10, best Bavarian food in Munich. Veal goulash is amazing, and the cucumber salad is wonderful. Also had the veal cheeks which were extremely tender, supple, and delicious.

Nice venue with lovely authentic decoration. Worth the try. Be careful of the delicious pretzels, they come with a price that you will discover at the checkout. The sausages are amazing and tasty!

Very nice and fancy Bavarian dinner, with typical, tasty, and rich dishes. Only downside: when we had to pay, they asked us "how much?", expecting a tip, which I found a bit rude.

Great quality and atmosphere in a traditional looking restaurant. Decent house beer, there are better ones though. Deserts are also a must!

It’s my third time here, OCT 29th. The sun still warms the outside tables so one can enjoy the beautiful piazza. This time I had the Pumpkin 🎃 soup with pumpkin seed oil and it was great, with a side of Weißwurst. Service was slow and chaotic but not the fault of my lovely server, some manager did not schedule enough people for the day, my server took care of all the tables outside alone for a while.

Lovely ambience, very cozy place with friendly staff. Good food but a little pricey being in the city centre. Unfortunately Spaten isn't my favourite beer.

Was told this restaurant is related to Haxnbauer which we used to frequent on our trips to Munich years ago. Food is just as good and the service from the wait staff is very pleasant. Unfortunately for the 2 guest in our group that ordered the roasted pork knuckle, the skin was extremely salty. Rest of the food like the calves liver, duck and also the fish were great. Another thing to mention is the lady at the WC was extremely unfriendly and short tempered. Totally not in line with the rest of the service we received at the restaurant. Overall still a very nice dinner experience and would return again.

I was just there at 21:10 and asked to be seated to have food. The waiter told me that they stopped serving food at 21:15. I told him their website States 21:30 but he did not care and told me 21:15. Seriously, I was there at 21:10, they did not care. Unbelievable how this guy acted and treated us. That place was also not very busy!!! Don’t go!!! The arrogance of the waiter is unbelievable and no one should spent money at this place.

Something that you have to know about that restaurant is that you are absolutely not welcome here if you only want to take a couple of beers. The staff will force you to take main courses. If you reject, they will ask you to leave the place. Seems like it is restaurant's financial strategy. They don't want to "waste" their time on those people who will not make them at least 30-40 euros per person. They will tell you that "it is dining time now, so you have to order food" or "that all the seats are resrved for those people who want to come to eat", even if 90% of places are free. Just know - that is not the place, where you can come to have a nice time with a cup of Bavarian beer. I've experienced a lack of quality service in lots of places in Munich, but that is absolutely unacceptable nowadays. I reccomend you to avoid this place at all times to save your time and good mood

Location is good its across of Spatenhaus Opera. The setting upstairs is a beautiful refined Bavarian style which is perfect for fine dinning. They have an outdoor area where you can go more on casual. Elevated Traditional Bavarian food. Price point its a bit expensive compare to other restaurant but definitely worth it.

Amazing food, amazing beer in an amazing location.. just in front of the Residenz museum in the center of Munich. I had the veil meatballs and my boyfriend the pork knuckles... so delicious! Our waiter was fantastic!! I would give 10 star if I could

Only went for drinks. Very expensive compared to other places. Nice atmosphere. Big inside and lots of outdoor seating to the front. Service could have come with more of a smile. They take credit cards.

  • 5/5 Ilana S. 1 year ago on Google
The ambience is beautiful and the service was good and quick. Great Bavarian classics on the menu and also great beer. It’s a bit price, but overall worth the experience. We went without reservation and had no issues getting a table.

It was difficult to find an open restaurant on a Sunday evening. We found one free table here. The restaurant is large but cozy. There are many tables and there is also another floor. Despite the fact that the restaurant was full, we got our food very quickly. It was very tasty. The price was a little higher. The service was very nice and fast.
