A small tower monument with Virgin Mary on the top. Right in front of the new Rathaus at Marienplatz. Nice atmosphere around with shopping stores and walking stretches.

This monument is located right in the center of a big square whereby many tour groups and people meet or gather. Because of the crowd, one still has to be careful of their belongings, although Germany is generally very safe. Nonetheless, unfortunate things still can happen. There are numerous boutiques and malls around the square for shoppers and cafes for people who like to sit down and people watch. The surrounding architecture of the buildings are very nice and grand. There is a underground station for those looking to travel here via public transport.

Love this square and everything in square in around so do Mariensaule Column. It was erected in 1638 to celebrate Bavaria’s victory. A golden statue of Virgin Mary at top of this column.

The Mariensäule is a Marian column located on the Marienplatz in Munich, right in front of the new Town Hall. Beautiful tall statue worth seeing.

A square and a column! Very nice sight. One of the many interesting things to see at Marienplatz is Mariensäule (Column of the Virgin) which was erected in 1638 at the end of the Thirty Years' War. This is a beautiful monument that is nice to see when spending time on the square. Here you will find a single column topped with a gilded figure of the Virgin Mary which was created by Hubert Gerhard in 1593. The column plinth is surrounded by four delightful putti which represent the overcoming of hunger, war, plague and heresy. The Mariensäule stands just before Glockenspiel and makes for nice photographs with Neues Rathaus in the background. Given the column monument a few minutes to enjoy and make sure so have a quick look at the fountain monuments around Marienplatz as well.

Mariensäule (St Mary's Column) was erected in 1638 to celebrate Bavaria's victory over Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War. It's topped by a golden statue of the Virgin Mary balancing on a crescent moon. It is located just in the muddle of Marienplatz, few meters from Fischbrunnen and Kaufingerstrasse.

Located near old town, this area has a lot of photo sites and observation decks. The crowds can be overbearing during October Fest so be mindful of foot traffic
