This is a wonderful museum with a fascinating history on the brutal persecution of Christians in Japan. I knew it was hard for them, but I had no idea there were so many martyrs here. There's plenty of English information, and a lot of great historical context. Highly recommended even if you aren't religious. Of particular note is information on the hidden Christians and how they practiced. There's a video of one of their old Christmas eve rituals that is quite powerful. The idea that they used statues of Kannon, also known as Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, as a stand in for the Virgin Mary is a powerful revelation.

The museum is not that big, I stayed 1 hour because I really, really took my time since the entrance was 500¥. Everyone else that came in got out after 5 to 20 minutes. There were some impressive artifacts, but I felt like a good part of the exhibit was not specific to Nagasaki and what happened there.

Very interesting place where Catholic (although in the museum it kept stating it is Christianity) and Japanese cultures and history blend together

Historical place. ...to stand on the place where 26 true Christians died for their faith touched my heart. Their 30 day journey from Kyoto to Nagasaki to be martyred....their Way of the Cross. I felt privileged to stand on the spot where showed their courage and love for Christ.

Great place to visit to learn about the history of Catholicism in Japan. Even if you aren't a Catholic, it's good to learn about the impact it has had in the region

Very informative and well structured museum showing the history of european missionaries (from home country Portugal) that came to Japan in order to spread Christianity. Their story is really well told and although it has an unhappy ending, the kakure kurishitan will always have a place in the history of Christ.

Very moving experience to see the artifacts of the Christian struggle in Japan. To be in the presence of so many relics (more than the 26) of the martyrs was moving. This place was visited by Pope St. John Paul II in 1981 and Pope Francis in 2019.

The museum is about the history of Christianity in Japan. The focus is on the events and incidents leading up to the death of 26 Catholics who were crucified in Nagasaki in 1597. Christianity started in Japan in 1549 when Portuguese missionaries arrived. The ruling power felt threatened by the popularity of Christianity and started persecuting Christians in the late 1500s.

It’s amazing to me how these martyrs defended their faith for the Love for God in their hearts. So much history-

Very worth while. This is a very reverently curated exhibit of artifacts from the times of St. Paul Miki & companions. You should also go across the street and sit quietly in the church dedicated to these martyrs. Definitely a highlight of Nagasaki.

One of the most interesting place that I got to visit in Japan. The way up is a little bit tiring, but it is definitely worth it. It is so peaceful as well. I really love the temple that is up there too.

A historical museum. It's very important to keep alive what's happened there. Persecution of Christians is still an important issue worldwide today.

Not religious myself or in any way affiliated to any belief but do acknowledge the pain and pressure up to deaths of that era like I would where and where any liberal thoughts and attempted social advancements would be broken down by ultra violent brute power. For me and just for me though the museum was too centered on religious beliefs, no room for thought outside the realm of faith.
