Naminoue Shrine is located on the cliff, which has been used for praying for the ocean from ancient times. And when the sailors or the fishermen come and trade in Okinawa You will see this shrine on the cliff. Along with praying for various wishes Which is a shrine that people respect, then during the Pacific War Naminoue Shrine was damaged in the battle in Okinawa. Also known as the Battle of Okinawa and at the end of the war The government has restored it to the original. Naminoue Shrine is currently one of the eight major shrines in Okinawa. That the Japanese people believe This central shrine is the center of Shinto religion in Okinawa Prefecture. The Okinawans come to pay homage to this shrine the first place on New Year's Day every year in order to trade. It is prosperous, including those arriving or about to leave. And tourists tour Japan Will come to make a wish at this shrine to make the journey safe. This shrine is special because it is located on a cliff next to the sea. Make it look like the Dragon Palace under the sea in the legend of Urashima Taro.

Easy to get to and experience Japanese culture, it's a traditional temple. Close to cruise and beach, great place for young family with children. A street of Street food vendors on the way to temple let's you try traditional Japanese Street food. Inside the temple there are signs to educate tourists how to greet their gods. Great place to experience Japanese culture free of charge. 27min easy stroll from downtown or a few stops by bus.

(Translated by Google) It's a mysterious shrine where the atmosphere near the airport is different from the one seen from the road, and the atmosphere when you actually visit is different! The priest is also a nice person, and it is a place where the wind is comfortable even in hot summer Okinawa ♪ You can put several parking lots on the slope up the grounds! You can also go to the beach from the back of the parking lot.

Nice shrine in the middle of the city, very accessible for tourists in the area. Can get a good feel of tradition. They sell little souvenirs and have plenty of english signs with instructions on how to pray

Located near the beach, barely 5 minutes walk. As it was new year’s eve, there were lots of stalls set up, pending the new year celebrations. Lots of food, fun games and gift stores to keep you entertained. The shrine had the normal Japanese rituals of washing your hands and making a donation before prayers, where you clap your hands twice. Not to worry, the instructions for these are all just by the side, in case you do not know what to do. It isn’t really a huge place, but the park, museum and beach are just nearby.

This shrine was good. Nothing really impressed me, though. It is small enough to see. It's definitely worth visiting if you are planning to go to Naminoue Beach. I was happy to visit here because it was very close to where I am staying tonight. I am not so sure if it is worth visiting from far.

This shrine is located near Naha airport. Free parking is available. The main building is being renovated or updated. The rest of the shrine is well maintained and has a tropical feel. Goshuin stamp is available as a piece of paper.

After a few hours of shopping we decided to go for rest and relation. Boy were blown away by how relaxing and tranquil this shrine was! Great photos as well! The shrine brings all elements together and creates an experience that will never be forgotten! A must see when traveling to Okinawa!

Visited the place for the first time on December 31 and found out lots of preparing being done for the New Year ceremony. Japanese people are usually visit Shrines at midnight. Nice garden is available nearby with a beautiful view of the ocean.

It was one of the reachable shrines I could get to without transportation during my stay in Naha. Beautiful shrine next to a park. There seems to be a tour group that takes tourists to this location as a tour destination since there was a group as I arrived at the location... couldn't really get any quiet prayers done while I was I'm the shrine. Also, there was a ceremony going on at the time so it was extra crowded.

Beautiful shrine in here! For those of you looking to add a superb goshuin to your collection, this is your shrine! You can get it for only ¥500 and it is made right away (almost in front of you!). We were able to catch a glimpse of the artist when he was displaying his talent!

Very beautiful and “Japanish” shrine in Naha, it’s a small shrine but still worth visiting, quite peaceful and calm if visit in early mornings. There’re some japanese amulets to buy for protecting self health and fortune.

It was a nice Shrine it was okay not as good as many other ones I have visited the ground could use some work that's for sure especially behind the shrine to the north heading toward the beach just seems to be a forgotten piece of property that leads you to a beautiful beach area.

This area has been the sacred area to offer prayers to Nirai Kanai (world of gods) since the day of old. Each boat going in and out of the commerce base of Naha port looked up to the shrine on top of the high cliff, prayed for a safe journey and expressed their appreciation. The shrine was venerated, and people prayed for a rich haul of fish and rich harvest. Every New Year, the King himself, on behalf of his people visited the shrine to pray for the peace and prosperity of the nation. The shrine was admired as the "primary shrine of the kingdom", head of the Eight Shrines in Ryukyu. It was classified as Kanpei-shousha (nationally significant shrine) in the Meiji Era and became the Okinawa Sochinju (shrine that protects the whole of Okinawa) but it was destroyed during the war. After the war, Shamusho (shrine office) and Honden (main shrine) were reconstructed in 1953, and Haiden (hall of worship) was reconstructed in 1961. In 1993, reconstruction of Honden (main shrine) and other shrines was completed during the Heisei reconstruction project. It was designated as the Naha City Historical Site of Cultural Property in 2006.

This is a must-visit spot in Okinawa. Beautiful shrine at the edge of a cliff in Naha. It's a perfect little sanctuary amongst all the loud chaos nearby. There is a direct entrance to the beach from right next to the shrine will give you an amazing view seeing it on the cliffside. Parking can be difficult, but there are paid parking lots nearby.

cute shrine by the sea which is wheelchair accessible (but pretty steep).

  • 3/5 Maciej P. 10 months ago on Google
The shrine main selling point is its location. On a small cliff next to the beaches of Naha with crystal clear blue water. Apart from that there shrine has some decorations here and there but compared to some on the mainland it feels empty so consider it only when you also go to the beach.

This shrine located near Naminoue beach. You can take a walk to the bridge and take photo of the shrine from there which is very beautiful. The only way to walk to the bridge is go to the right side of the beach (facing toward the sea).

A very beautiful and atmospheric shrine located in Naha City. The shrine is built on a hill by the sea, and the wind from the sea blows comfortably in the precincts. The amulets and red seal books that can be purchased here are engraved with traditional Okinawan patterns and are very beautiful. You can also go down to the beach from the path beside the shrine grounds. On days when there are few visitors, you can feel the time pass by slowly and peacefully. We recommend a visit when you come to Naha.

Beautiful shrine next to the beach. The area you can visit is pretty small, so it won't take long at all to see everything, but if you're nearby it's worth it.

Very nice but small Shrine. Entry was restricted to the inner part, so could not explore much. The atmosphere was really peaceful and I did enjoyed visiting it. Almost empty due to the lack of tourists, so had its pros and cons. The souvenir shops were still open though. Recommended for visit.

Naminoegu Shrine sits on top of a hill for more than a hundred years. It's a small shrine and there is a beautiful beach nest next to the shrine where you can swim and enjoy sun bathing. Many people come to pray and wish for good health and bless marriage. People who manage the shrine are very systematic. They manage the car parks and crowd to ensure safety is always there. You can tour around the place within 30mins. There is also an office for you to do donation and amulets are for sales as well.
