Still a decent amount of deers around . Buy the biscuit snacks that is allowable . Do bow before feeding . The most polite deer I’ve encountered . Such good manners . But also be prepared for greedy ones that will butt u when u don’t feed them. Be brave just hands up and show them u have none on your hands . Also avoid carry any plastic bags , the deer will gravitate towards you when they hear sound of plastic bags . They associate it with food.

I had the pleasure of visiting Nara Park in Japan, and it was an unforgettable experience. The park has more than 1,200 deer, which are free to roam the park. Deer are very friendly and love to be petted. I had a lot of fun feeding and petting the deer.

The deer park was a great experience. The deer would bow for the crackers sold in the park and there were lots of them around. The park itself is quite large and a tranquil place, despite being full of people.

We took a day trip from Kyoto. This part of the trip was so exhilarating. It's simply stunning. The whole experience was amazing. The open fields, the shrines, the deer, everything was beautiful. There are vegan restaurants nearby. Be prepared to walk at least 20k steps and wear comfortable shoes.

Packed with both, tourists, locals and deer. Nevertheless, it was still enjoyable to see all the wild deer and you can get deer crackers to feed the deer with. Lots of fun feeding the deer with the kids and seeing the deer bow to people for more deer crackers.

Easily my most favorite experience in ALL of Japan. You order deer cookies from various vendors located around the large park. A pack of 5 cookies is 200¥ so bring plenty of coins with you. Yes the deer can be a little aggressive but they will not hurt you. One deer was so eager to eat that he put my whole hand in his mouth, but the deer recognize when it's not food, so they won't bite you. Even when they did accidentally do a little bite from excitement, it did not hurt. It can be scary when the deer push their head into you. But just keep the food hidden and close to your body so they don't steal the entire stack of cookies. Walk with your back turned to them and they will slowly follow, with your walking keeping a little distance. The larger ones with horns tend to be more aggressive than the smaller females. But they let you pet and touch them in exchange for the food, it is such a cool experience. I want to go again. As soon as you show them your empty hands, the deer will leave you alone. The park is open 24/7 but I did not see any food available to buy at night. It's still fun seeing them at night though.

Nara is one of the iconic places to see while in Japan. It is easy to get here by train from Kyoto. If you already have the JR Pass it will be valid on the JR line so no need to buy train tickets. Close to train station you will start seeing deer roaming freely through the parks and on the sidewalks. Vendors for deer "cookies" are everywhere, even the souvenirs shops sell them, the price is the same everywhere, 200 yen. If you are not in the hurry, keep walking up to the deer feeding area, really not that different than the first park close to the train station but gives you the chance to visit some temples and shrines. Try to find single deer as it will be more manageable for feeding. If there is a group of deer, they will swarm you the moment you show the "cookies" . Also young deer will not easily come to you. Some mature deer are "trained" to bow when feeding them but not all so keep trying until you find one. Don't give all the cookies at once, actually take out one at the time and even break it into pieces. You'll have fun for sure!

This is one of the highlights of the trip. Definitely do not skip out! The deer are adorable and many of them will let you pet them. Make sure they bow for your food first! Some are more aggressive than others. You can buy deer food for about 400-500 yen.

Nara Deer Park in Nara, Japan, is an enchanting and unforgettable destination. Our visit left us in awe of its unique charm and natural beauty. The sight of wild Nara Deer freely roaming the city, especially within the park's confines, was a heartwarming experience. The park itself exudes a sense of tranquility and serenity. Its picturesque landscapes, adorned with lush greenery and historic landmarks, create a serene backdrop for your visit. As you explore, you'll encounter vendors offering delightful deer-themed merchandise and a wide array of souvenirs, allowing you to take a piece of this magical place home with you. The surrounding area boasts a selection of restaurants and businesses, making it convenient to enjoy a delicious meal or shop for local treasures. Don't miss out on the delectable ice cream offerings – a delightful treat to savor while admiring the park's scenic beauty. The park is free to enter and never seemed overcrowded while we were there. You can buy crackers for the deer to eat but be careful as they are not afraid of you once you have food. There is plenty of signage warning you of this as well. In summary, Nara Deer Park is an absolute must-visit if you find yourself in Japan. Its unique blend of nature, culture, and wildlife creates an enchanting experience that will stay with you long after you've left.

I would believe the majority of tourists come to Nara mainly to feed the deer, so coming here is no brainer. It is actually a really large park, and you don't need to worry or think too much whether or where you can spot the deer. Once you get off from Nara JR station, there is a yellow bus in front heading to Nara Park, take it and get off at N6 stop. You will start seeing deer roaming around even before getting off. Then you can walk towards Nara Park, where you can easily spend half a day feeding the deer, enjoying the scenery or just relaxing. For parents with young kids, please be mindful of letting your little one feed the deer alone. The deer here generally have very good manners and will bow for food politely. But some can be naughty and pick on small targets, like younger children. For example if the deer bowed, but didn't receive any food as reward. When we were there, we witnessed an incident where a girl got kicked by a deer with a loud "bang" and the kid cried very loudly too. We asked the parents if the kid is ok, and it seems nothing major. Also we saw a deer that did not have the horn trimmed or cut, so it's a bit scary even for adults if the deer bows to you .

Nara Park is a true treasure, especially for its unique residents - the 1300 deer that wander freely, enriching every visit. These friendly dog-like deer are exceptionally approachable, engaging visitors in feeding and petting sessions. Spending time there, enjoying a leisurely walk in the sunshine among these gentle animals, was a highlight of my visit.

I love Nara Park. The time I reached there most of the deer had already full. So they won't eat anymore cause they may have many visitors earlier. If you are like me 3pm you might have to walk up to the hill there to feed the hungry one. Mostly they were very shy towards human unlike those near the entrance they were bow to you back to back. Overall I have wonderful with my friends.

It's wide, full of greenery and deer !! Deer were roaming freely everywhere. You can buy food for them at 200¥.just be careful about a bite, kick etc. Once you buy a food pack, deer will keep chasing you until you raise both of your hands up.😅😂 Todaiji temple is also there so you can visit it too.

A very beautiful place. Have been watching many videos on social platform about the deer of japan. And finally watched lived and experience there greeting as well. However some deer are aggressive too. If you buy a food for them, they will follow you every where 😁 Access to it is very simple and convenient. However there is only few shops. The Otera is also very beautifully decorated. Nara is the old capital of Japan and the historical architecture is awesome. Must visit once.

Fun experience, the park was filled with deer. Some are friendly as others wrote but don’t be fooled, once you feed one they will attack you and try to eat your clothes while politely bowing. Other than feeding animals, you can see many old buildings and enjoy the calm atmosphere.

A nice park with lots of deer roaming about waiting for food biscuits from the many visitors. Vendors sell biscuits for ¥200, and you can safely feed the deer who are very used to humans. There are also various shrines, museums and other points of interest within short walks or a bus ride.

Such a lovely experience whilst walking distance from a busy town. Would highly recommend purchasing some of the biscuits sold at the park (all over) to feed the bowing deer, all money raised from the purchases help to care for the deer! Just be careful because they get a bit excited and can sometimes nibble your clothes if you’re not quick enough!

Nara park is delightful. Deer have lived here for one thousand years and ate so sweet and friendly! Shrines and temples also in the area date back centuries. Small lake also close by and honestly, there’s a Starbucks right there which I have tried to avoid since in Japan but ordered a latte and sat outside and it was the best latte I’ve ever had. Shopping streets all in area, museums and the huge Buddha shrine is amazing. All of this can be done in one day.

In Nara Deer Park, I had an enchanting experience surrounded by the gentle and friendly deer. As I strolled through the park, the sight of these graceful creatures roaming freely was mesmerizing. Feeding them special deer crackers was an unforgettable moment, as they approached me with curiosity and a touch of playfulness. Gorgeous grounds and endless wild deer all around. We were entertained watching folks buy deer food, then getting instantly surrounded by deer. Don't buy deer food... they almost attack you for it! Otherwise a lovely, big park, and home to the giant Buddha statue.

If you are in Osaka, you should visit this park. It's a stunning park with lots of cute deer! The environment and the animals seem pretty happy. You can pet the deer and feed them, just keep in mind that they are wild animals so they could kick or bite, so be considerate of them. In almost every area you can buy some wafers for the deer, so don't forget some cash!

Lovely place. Nara in general is amazing. The deer aren't nearly as aggressive as made out online. They may nibble you to get your attention but that's about all. I highly recommend walking into the park and not just staying at the front. The park is huge and gorgeous.

If you like deer make sure you go here. I went at day and night time and both were full with lots of deer. I didn't buy any food to feed them because I saw a guy get chased by a heard of hungry deer. They are really cute and it's amazing that they aren't afraid of humans. It's definitely worth taking the train down if you are in Kyoto. It takes about an hour and ten minutes to make it via the express.

Deer are slightly aggressive if they see you holding food in hand. Advice: cover the food with paper and hold the cracker out only when you are about to feed. Poop everywhere, careful where you step. Overall good experience.

Lovely park with tons of deer and their stuff they leave behind including the smell. You can buy cookies to feed them with. The deer in the entrance are apathetic and the deer in the less common areas will run you over if you take out a cookie. Only one deer kind of bowed. They are still cute to look at and are likely to let you pet them.

Do you like deer? Well, you had better, they’re everywhere, so watch where you step! You need to keep your head on a swivel and don’t let them surround you if you have deer cookies (you can buy those from shops or vendors for 200¥ easily). It’s certainly one of a kind and fun to watch people interact with the deer. Most of the deer were nice and bowed with you, but don’t hang around if they start getting aggressive, let that be somebody else’s problem.

A nice park with quite a few temples to visit, the main attraction would probably me the deer which some of them can be quite aggressive and may bite as well. But there's a hill within the park which cost 150¥ to enter and the view on top is pretty good

Such a unique experience! Was not sure about it at first, but definitely worth the visit. When are you ever going to just be around a bunch of deer!? Also just don’t be an idiot they are still wild animals and can and will be aggressive if you’re loud, abrupt, and a troll. I would recommend.

The deer at this park are so cute and bow for treats ! Just be careful as there is a chance they will come at you all at once. Just raise your hands and move away! They might nibble your outfit and also do not make the mistake of carrying a plastic bag with food like I did haha

Even though I was one of the only people going here on my own I enjoyed myself a lot, I took loads of photos and it was easy to get close to the deer and even pet them. The shrines also looked great and everyone who works there is absolutely amazing

This is a wonderful, peaceful park to come visit in Nara! The main highlight is the friendly deer, who roam the trails with no fear of people! It is fun to bow with them and feed these sacred animals cookies!

Extensive variety of temples spread across this ranging park, with pretty walks through the grounds and forests fringed with stone lanterns. Let’s be honest though, you’re heading here for the deer, and they are incredibly cute, and just about everywhere except in the temples. Lots of photo opportunities and you can buy crackers to feed them. Lots of warning signs about them getting feisty, but the ones we encountered were all very well behaved (except for one that kept trying to munch my pockets in search of more crackers!). A nice day out, allow a few hours to explore the park and temples.

Serene place. The deer are docile but can gather around you in groups of 4 to 6 if you decide to feed them, but the deer will not hurt you. However, don't be surprised if they nip if you are looking to feed them. Other than that, the deer are harmless and mostly gentle.

Make sure to buy at least 5 pack of deer food. It's such a great experience to feed deers. If you keep their food it your pocket they can start to chew on your clothing. They also can push you a little (it's the way they are asking for more food).

It's an amazing experience feeding a deer.🦌 no entrance fee only you can pay is parking if you have car. And the food is 200¥ for 10pcs round deer crackers. The funny thing I've been experiencing here is the deer is intelligent 🤣 they know if you have their food hiding in the pocket 🤣 MY tips is crack the cracker food to not easily consume 🤣and run if the deer notice it. because they will not leave to you until you don't have food🤣🤣. overall experience is amazing, and my kids enjoyed feeding the deer.

The deer-est chaos in the most adorable way. The animals are friendly but will chase after (or nib the butt of) whomever holding the deer cookies. They are still so polite as they always bow before or after being fed (or after a duel).

This is a must go for visiting Japan / the Kansas area (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, etc) You get to feed the deer and it’s absolutely beautiful. Good picnic spot 🧺 There’s a lake that’s worth finding (I can’t remember the name) and I would highly recommend going to the temple near the end of the park. You’ll get some great pictures and memories here ^_^

Some friends and I went through and toured all of the little areas and had a fantastic time! I ended up feeding some of the deer and it was great but it's important to note these are still animals. Most of the individuals are fine but expect some of the less desirables to bite you for food if you have it on you. If you don't have any food none of them will bother you at all and you can simply observe the animals. Other than that, I had a great time!

Cool but also lots of gimmicks. The deer are leading their best lives and aren’t about to let you get in the way… so give me the cracker and no one gets hurt. Seriously, give them the crackers you buy for 200 yen or they will bite you.

I had the most incredible experience when I visited Nara Park during my trip to Japan in April. As an Australian traveler, it was amazing how the deer here can just walk around freely without any real restrictions. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the adorable deer that roam freely throughout the park. The sheer number of deer amazed me, and the park's vast size allowed them ample space to wander freely. If you're visiting remember bow three times and then they expect some food! It was fascinating to witness them using the crosswalks and waiting patiently at the lights. Even more astonishing was the kindness of the people, including children, who would lend a helping hand to the deer if they needed assistance crossing the road. Feeding the deer was an absolute joy. For 200 yen, I purchased a stack of 10 crackers, and it was worth every yen. The deer eagerly approached, their innocent eyes and wagging tails adding to their charm. I made a conscious effort to find a deer away from the herd, ensuring it received its fair share of treats. The park also has Todaiji Temple, which was bustling with activity during my midday visit. Although it was crowded, the grandeur and historical significance of the temple were awe-inspiring. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in Japanese culture and architecture. They also have a Starbucks, venting machines and toilets conveniently located next to the park. If you find yourself in Japan and love animals you should go!

Really nice experience, better than expected, definitely worth it. The deers are very friendly and fun, the park is huge so it does not feel overcrowded as other places in Kyoto or Osaka. It is the best place we found for taking photos with cherry blossom trees as people are so distracted with the animals that they ignore the beautiful trees.

It’s a beautiful park, not much to say except the deer 🦌 are actually so, friendly I guess is the right word, they will come up to you, push their noses in your face and even nibble on your clothes. They sell crackers for the deer if you want to feed them but if you are scared then beware they can get really really “friendly” 🤣 however it was a unique experience for me to be so close and even pet the deer 🦌

Pretty park that is free to enter, filled with deer and temples. The museums, gardens and temples usually require further admission fees. I went early in the morning to avoid the heat and crowd, I enjoyed it a lot. There were some booths selling deer food, some deer seemed to be fighting over the food. Most of the deer are calm around humans if you don’t provoke them.

Beautiful park with some amazing scenery and temples. I’d recommend not buying any deer biscuits as as soon as the deer know you have them they will swarm you and are very pushy and almost aggressive. However if you don’t have any food they are calm and very gentle. We came across a couple deer in particular that were very affectionate and friendly. The further you go into the park the nicer it gets, there’s some great tracks hidden deeper in the woods at the end that are definitely worth checking out. Nara park is a must do on your trip to Japan!

Lovely temple and park. You can buy food to feed the deer. There was so many more deer than I expected and it did get a bit scary when members of my group were feeding them (I'm a wimp and was too scared) as they came in a huge group at one point but on the whole they were lovely. I did get a nip on my bum but mum reckons it's because my dress had a blossom design on 😄 I let my guard down and my sister thought she would give me a scare. They had lovely ice cream.

If you have the chance to visit Nara, do so. Feed some deer. Try not to get gored or trampled by them once they learn you have food. Some of them can be a bit aggressive in their bowing. Not like they're starved by any means. Once you're out of food, they'll leave you be for someone else. Great experience. Need to learn the secret of the food vendors to keep the deer at bay.

The park is a lot of fun, a ton of deer around everywhere which you can buy food for if you want. The one problem with this is that the tons of deer, and the constant feeding means there is a ton of deer poop :D but other than that, its a great place.

Deers are used to people and they come after you if you have deer treats, and it can be a but intimidating since they can be persistent but overall they are adorable and the park is beautiful.

Awesome park to hang out and relax all day, enjoy sakura, watch the deers chase tourists for rice crackers 🤣 Didn't feel too crowded even on a Saturday. Lots of benches and open areas to sit down. I was worried about bringing food that'd draw the deer attention. Turns out the deers only want to eat those crackers you can buy from the local vendors.

One of the best places for tourists in Kansai area. Surprisingly the deers are quite aggressive. There are several hiking trails in this area with temples and shrines along the way. I would highly recommend to take one of them, walk slowly and feel the peace within. The Nara museum is one of the best museums in Japan with top collection of East Asian artworks.

The deers here are not afraid of people at all. They walk on the streets, sidewalk and everywhere constantly approaching people for feeds. It is how Japanese teach kids to love animals and a real experience is right in front of your ways. You don’t have to put animal in your mouth. Instead, you can take care of them well and people are attracted to come to this place for this unique experience. We took a half an hour train to get here from Osaka, it was a pleasant experience. Nara is amazing!

Amazing park full of wild deer, that will greet you in exchange for their snacks. Beware that they are WILD, I got headbutted the moment I set hands on the snacks, they followed us a good 100 meters as my toddler was crying and I tried to run away to prevent them from “attacking” my child. I got the feeling they hadn’t been fed that much lately. Other deer were very relaxed and allowed us to pet them lightly. There are many toilet and small shops all over.

Always a amazing day at Nara Park. So many sites in one place. You can walk all around the park visit different temples and take pictures with deers. Also historically it has great significance for Japanese. It is easily accessible and must to do side tour from Kyoto and Osaka.

Nara Park might be one of my favorite places in all of Japan. It was incredible seeing the deer everywhere, the temples were very impressive, and the scenery was spectacular. I wrote about this park on my website in great detail, but the deer are approachable, but I would be careful when it comes to feeding them as some can be aggressive. My favorite attraction here is the giant temple with the Buddha, I've never seen anything quite like it. I was lucky enough to spend two days in Nara, and feel this is a place I can keep coming back to.

It's a very unique place to come to. There are plenty of vendors selling food for the deer. The deer can get very aggressive with their biting and ramming (even cut horns hurt!) so be prepared. There could definitely be more staff helping tourists and giving them warning of the deer as it is a little confronting when you're feeding them.

Family places and very nice experiences, you can take the bus and dropped at the Tokyo station or can take the tour bus. Very easy to take both. Inexpensive area and totally worth it. Deers super friendly and ready to eat all the time. Everyone enjoyed.

One of my favorite spots to visit in Japan. Deer roaming freely in a large park surrounded by woods and temples. Deer biscuits for sale at the park. Also lots of food and souvenir vendors. Easy to access by bus or about 30 minutes walk from JR Nara station (don't forget your stamp!)

Nara Park is a truly enchanting destination, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural history. The park, famous for its free-roaming deer, provides a serene and picturesque setting that captivates visitors of all ages. The deer, while wild, are surprisingly tame and interact gently with visitors, adding a magical touch to the experience. Alongside the natural allure, the park is dotted with historic temples and shrines, reflecting the rich heritage of Nara. The blend of lush greenery, tranquil ponds, and ancient architecture creates a peaceful and reflective atmosphere. This park is a must-visit for anyone seeking a tranquil escape in the heart of Japan's historical landscape.
