Famous place for charcoal eel. The lower price one serves local eel while the higher price one is a better quality one from other places in Japan. The portion is quite big and delicious. Sitting is spacious and comfortable. Worthwhile to try.

A long-established eel restaurant on the approach to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. The eel here is very tender and fragrantly grilled, making it very tasty✨ I love the eel on a bed of rice with plenty of sauce on top, sprinkled with sansho! The eel comes with a soup with liver and some pickles, but all the pickles here are really delicious, so I recommend ordering the assorted pickles separately. The eel is cooked to order, so you may have to wait a while. It's a good idea to order a beer and some snacks and wait for a while. If it is a busy day, you can get a numbered ticket at the reception desk and they will tell you the approximate waiting time, so it is better to get the ticket first and then go visit the temple 🙂

Must try BBQ Eel. Tender, Smoky and fatty texture. Delicate to the taste. Que can be long. Get there before 10am. I arrived at 10:45 hours. Got a number and waited for 45 minutes. Anther 30 min wait for the Eel to arrive. Well worth the wait. The upstairs interior is traditional tatami mats with tables and chairs . Very Zen like feeling . Great food and pleasant staff.

Fantastic unagi restaurant with the freshest unagi you could get. I'd recommend the large size unagi serving which will set you back just over 5000 yen. Once you've ordered it'll take approximately 20 minutes for them to cook and bring it to you. It's all freshly grilled over charcoal once you order. Staff are attentive with green tea refills and they are welcoming. Definitely will be back. Weekdays no real wait but weekends plan accordingly with time to spare. It's proximity to Narita Airport is good if you wanted have a walk around and get some food before going to the airport. There are also quite a few sights around the restaurant.

Had deep fried river shrimps and top grade seasoned unagi rice with Jumai Ginjo were authentic and excellent. Well worth the long long waiting time. The best we have eaten.

The staff was accommodating considering I speak almost no Japanese. The eel was mediocre and pricey. The tamago was tasty.

Surugaya masters the art of eel, delivering an unpretentious, deeply satisfying experience. Here, the eel is not just fresh; it's a god like. it's a culinary nod to tradition with a modern twist. A place that is to be known for its sheer dedication to craft and flavor. Also. My god. Its so fresh and so good its unbelievable

I had their Unagi the day I left Japan. The two hours wait to time was worth it. Coming back to Japan just for this is a perfectly acceptable reason.

Absolutely the best unagi I have ever eaten, cooked in the traditional way over charcoal. This restaurant has a traditional ambiance with the waitresses all wear traditional charming yukata. We arrived half an hour before noon( they set our expectations appropriately), took a number and had about a 40 minute wait to be seated and another 25 minutes to be served our meal. We munched on pickles, dashimaki (tamagoyaki) and crunchy kawaebi while waiting for the main unaju course. There are several variations on the menu. You can reserve a bento for a particular time and pick it up at the shop. Be neither early or late it will be ready exactly on time.

Food was good, but had expected the unagi to be more "crispy" on the surface. Nevertheless, was still a tasty and satisfying meal.

Nice restaurant with branded Japanese Unagi in their menu. Bit expensive but worth to try. Staffs are attentive.
