One of the best private wildlife reserve you can visit in the eastern cape. The animals in their reserve are used to the cars of the rangers and thus are not afraid and come very close. Can’t recommend it enough.

Large game reserve with friendly staff and lovely accommodations. Large enough (11,000 hectares / 110 sq km) that game drives feel like actual game drives (as opposed to some of the smaller ones which feel more like zoos). Fantastic views from Main Lodge & chalets.

Wow! Where do I begin? I’ll begin with saying GO! Book it! What an amazing experience! As a family of 5 with a 3 year old, 6 year old, and 10 year old, I could not be more satisfied with our decision to visit Kariega! We were treated with such care and great attention throughout the duration of our 2-night stay from our amazing guide to each staff member we encountered! I cannot say enough about Mr. Forrest, our guide! Our two youngest sons were so sad to leave him and my oldest enjoyed him as well. He made sure to answer their questions, quiz them along the game drives and stopped to show them things that would really peak their interests. His kind spirit and warm personality made our experience THAT much better. (All the best to your future. Nothing but peace and blessings to you Forrest!) The food! Each meal was prepared with love and seasoned to perfection…things that my young, chicken nugget-loving boys would never touch, they actually enjoyed! The wait and restaurant staff was always so kind and greeted us each time with a loving smile. Our waiter went over and beyond to satisfy our little ones. Our chalet was perfect! The space was just right for us and it was clean and neat as the pictures show. The boys played in our personal pool for a short period and also enjoyed the main pool. My youngest who absolutely LOVES to watch monkeys on YouTube was fortunate to receive a visit by a family of his little fiends the last morning of our stay! We enjoyed the kids areas for a short time of play on our departure day as we had to wait for a couple of hours for our transportation after checking out of our chalet. We also had our cousin and his fiancé who traveled with us and stayed at the Ukhozi Lodge. My goodness, the pictures of their room and food they’re shared with us looked amazing as well. They told us that each meal they ate was delectable! Again, no complaints from a mother who was a little nervous of this experience with 3 active boys…it’s perfect! Thank you again Kariega and Mr. Forrest for an AMAZING first African safari for my family! And did I forget to mention that we saw ALL the main animals and much more with plenty of time to observe? It’s worth it…Go!

Excellent reserve with plenty of stunning wildlife. Staying here you'll very likely encounter elephants, buffalos, Nyala, Impala, Gnu, Kudu, Warthogs or even Lions, Hippos or Rhinos. We did several rides with the guides and it was an absolutely fantastic stay (2 nights might be best duration). Most lodges are luxurious and the food is of highest quality.

I must say, this is the place with the best big 5 experience in African bushes!! Besides top level services and facilities, they provide incredible wildlife interactions and community experiences!!! We will definitely come back! With our friends and children!!

RedFoot safaris sent our family to Kariega. We had an unbelievable experience. Guides were fantastic and managed to get us into the most beautiful moments surrounded by wildlife. Lions, Elephants, Rhino, Cheetah, warthog and too many buck to mention guarantees a genuine African safari experience. Homestead staff were exceptionally accommodating and food was out of this world. Arriving back after a game drive to a drink and a warm face cloth to wipe the African dust from your face was a touch that you need to experience to understand the value of going the extra mile. Thank you to RedFoot for putting together a magical moment for our family. It was so much more than the individual parts. If there was 6*s I’d give them.

Kariega Main Lodge must be the most beautiful place along the Eastern Cape coast to visit. The staff are professional, friendly and helpful. Main Lodge serves the best Buffet meals in a tranquil setting overlooking the valley towards Kenton-on-Sea A must visit for anyone coming to the Eastern Cape.

This place is disgusting. They are chopping black and white rhinos horns off with chainsaws so "Poachers don't do it" There has got to be another way to protect our endangered species instead of straight up mutilation.

We spent two nights here and did 4 game drives. The room was comfortable, but the bathroom door was difficult to open and close fully. The game drives were great, our tour guide was helpful and gave us interesting info. Food was good and well presented.

We stayed at the River Lodge, and can not praise the staff highly enough. Unfortunately my friend, Wendy, had twisted her knee a few days before arrival. One of the girls, form England, had a pair of crutches, as she had recently broken her ankle. She very kindly let Wendy use them. Everyone was so helpful. Damien, our ranger, managed to get her into the truck for a game drive. This was our second visit, and hopefully we will be returning. Fantastic game drives, and such knowledge. Recommended Kariega to friends from New Zealand, they were blown away !! Lesley

Incredible experience from start to finish. Will absolutely return (once the park has been extended, as planned) and/or recommend this game reserve to my friends and family!

A wonderful experience! Lovely place, lovely, helpful staff. Roaming the reserve in a land cruiser with our amazing guide, Ozzy, seeing fascinating animals is never to be forgotten! Thanks again Ozzy!

The picture was taken during a great game drive. Here, the 18-year-old bull elephant Nyanga passed our car quite peacefully. Simply great 🇿🇦

Highly recommended. We peddled at Homestad. The staff catered to our wishes as far as activities were concerned. The food is very tasty, but is pre-set. It would be better to ask the guests for their wishes. The game drives were great and we were able to see 4 of the Big Five. The bathrooms could do with a little renovation. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Thus is one of the premier game reserves in the Eastern Cape. Currently in 2 sections with plans to create a further area of primary savannah to accommodate cheetah and leopard. The reserve has 5 game lodges and our party stayed in the Homestead for 3 nights and were superbly looked after in terms of personal service, food and accommodation. Two game drives a day were offered as we saw all the big 5 except leopard plus several types of antelopes and other animals and birds. The lions are kept in one section and no big predators in the other, which meant animal behaviour was different in each half. We were driven very close when appropriate to the animals. This is not a reserve to drive through or for day visits.

Stayed three nights at Settlers Drift and could not have been more pleased with our stay. Josh, our guide was the highlight of our time there and was the perfect guide. Incredibly knowledgable on the flora and fauna with a clear passion to educate and pleasure to interact with. He is a true asset to Kariega. The lodge itself was such a treasure. The feeling when first pulling up and walking in will forever leave a positive memory. The tents are positioned to make it feel as though the entire valley is entirely yours. They are also very comfortable and provide all the necessities (and more!). The food was also great and wonderfully prepared. The two daily drives throughout the property were such a joy and offered the opportunity to view an abundance of wildlife. I am beyond pleased with what we were able to see and the environments in which the animals are located in.
