Vava u is a tropical paradise - old school. No fancy malls, hotel chains or night clubs - runs at a very slow pace. Just a beautiful pacific island group. Best way to enjoy is by boat to visit the hundreds of unspoilt bays, big game fishing, see whales or visit the locally owned cafes in Neafu which do serve great coffee, food and have friendly staff. Water is clean and clear with good coral and fish (but you will see plastic - can not get away from it). Magic spot - one of my favourite in the South Pacific. Hard too get to but worth the effort if you like unspoilt untouristed holidays.

Away from the worries of the world. Not a tourist trap. The convenience stores are mostly Chinese owned and filthy outdated products and full of junk.

It was an awesome experience. We were not able to swim with whales as it wasn't the right season for that, but just to watch them was pretty cool.

Vava’u is awesome. Airport is easy and small. Obviously it has few amenities but there is a small concession window that has snacks and water. My friend and I had a great cultural experience and stayed at Mystic Sands. It’s an easy island to hop around by foot or bike. There are many restaurants and market shops in the main town.

Tonga, this place is impoverished but the people are friendly and there are some sites worth a look. Note that most shops only take Tongan currency.
