It was a girls weekend away and after hitting the farmers market we asked a local what the best place to eat with a patio in walking distance was. “Broken Hill” was her quick response. We made our way there and found a nice shady spot in the patio! Lovely and dog friendly! Staff were accommodating and super friendly. We had a mix of plates but all were astounding. The Herbivore, The Dirty Bird, Pork Belly Sliders, Cauliflower Tacos, and Beef Carpaccio. All accompanied by some great bevies! Thanks for the lovely lunch!

Wow, what a great choice for a lunch stop. The food is delicious with good smoke flavors. The beer list is strictly regional and amazing. And the bourbon selection is small, but amazing. We'll be back!

Meet the bison Bruce - who is watching all guests day-in, day-out. Rumors say that he may start rolling his eyes once too much alcohol has been consumed … Jokes aside, just an excellent place from start to end. Great end-to-end service, friendly and positive waiters, even if the restaurant is filled to the last seat. I love the food selection, beers and the excellence whiskey menu. We stayed two days in Nelson and spent both evenings here (first evening for dinner & drinks, second evening for drinks only). Must-go location in town!

We sat on the patio and shared some food and had some drinks. It was a lovely setting for a hot day. We ordered the pork belly mac n cheese. It was delicious! And quite reasonably priced. The server was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back here.

The ribs were to die for, but the fried chicken was the star of the night. Also, if you can sit at the bar, I would recommend it. I'm not a cocktail fan, but watching the bartenders do their magic was fantastic.

Went here last November during burger month and had THE BEST of my life. Super upsetting it can’t be on the menu permanently. Everything else we had was yummy too. Great ambiance/vibe in there - cool art on the walls! Friendly staff.

Allie and I had a outstanding experience at your restaurant. The food was a revelation! Hillbilly hand grenades, Smoked Cauliflower Mac, and The Smokey Bacon Cheddar Burger. On top of all of that, we were fortunate to received exemplary customer service from Lisa and Neve. I will recommend your establishment to everyone I meet. Thank you.

You can sit on the patio or inside in the air conditioning. It had a comfortable atmosphere. The service was friendly and helpful. I had the chicken and waffles with hot honey and omg! It was awesome. My partner had a smoked chicken salad (He actually didn't care for it, He said it had a very strong smoke taste to the whole thing, so a bit overwhelming smoke taste) The server was very gracious about it, and corrected it. I would definitely recommend the restaurant. (Just different tastes for different people)

Our server was named Kat, and she is an excellent server. She hails from the UK and now calls Nelson her home as far as I can tell. She clearly fits in well there because she is pleasant, funny, friendly, and an awesome server! The broken Hill is a Pub that is not only clean in the eating and drinking environment, the washrooms are laid out nicely in the basement with a unique theme to them, and they were also spotless. The broken Hill is the place to eat and drink, and the staff was equally as good as our server! I highly recommend you stop into this location for a bite to eat or drink when you're in Nelson, British Columbia.

Stopped in for lunch as per recommendation.. Did not disappoint. Had the hot mess sandwich and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich ~~Both great. The porter & was wonderful.the atmosphere was rustic and very comfortable. Unfortunately anything from the smoke house on the menu doesn’t start until 4PM. Great, friendly service. Definitely worth going to.

The service was on point the waitstaff was knowledgeable and friendly, but the biggest question is.. Have you ever wondered what an appetizer that's just bacon is like? Well wonder no longer! Grab it and follow up with a plate of BBQ that would rival southern connoisseurs. Chiggity check it out!

Had the Hot Mess for lunch with a beer (to many to list) and it was awesome! The decor and atmosphere has a big city feel. Lots of good food choices. Happy hour is 2-5 with many good deals to be had.

I was prepared to be disappointed when the peach pie cider I went in to try was sold out and the sour I chose as a second choice really wasn’t what I was expecting. Lindsey behind the bar was fabulous and brought a couple of samples to try and the stone fruit sour was a winner, definitely try it if you like a lighter, sweeter beverage. We were also really excited about the smoker experience, but do note that if you want the full smoked meat menu, you need to go for dinner, not lunch. But the brisket sandwich was truly a “hot mess” just as advertised. And definitely upgrade your fries to the hedon version. So flavourful and perfectly crispy on the outside with soft centres. The garlic dip wasn’t a necessity, but it did add some extra zip. The absolute highlight, though, was the hillbilly hand grenade appetizer. These are so far above the average jalapeño poppers. Gently spicy, wrapped in smoky bacon with a sweet, fruity note from the glaze, the flavor profile was amazing. It was definitely an expensive lunch coming in at over $100 all in for two people with beverages, but if you’re down for a splurge, the food is great, the atmosphere is cool and the service was stellar.

My wife and I were visiting from out of town and gave it a try. Casual vibe. Great meal and great service. Thanks Lindsey! I had the pork belly sliders. No doubt, one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. Great fries too.

Unbelievable food, Unbeatable service. 4 big eaters left absolutely stuffed. We split the pork belly sliders, and a pecan pie with ice cream. Each person also ordered their own entree and drinks. Every facet of our experience at the Broken Hill was balanced and enjoyable. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The space is large and airy enough to have a private conversation, but doesn't pressure you to be overly quiet. Not enough can be said about the food here. A caddy of 4 bbq/ hot sauces was brought to the table; each excellent in their own way. The brisket left nothing to be desired. A healthy portion of tender, tasty beef, smooth mashed potatoes, and an array of well matched sides and garnishes made for a filling meal. The pork sliders could easily have been a meal on their own (I would add a side). A nice crunch contrasted the rich, tender pork. And the locally sourced bun enveloped this tiny masterpiece perfectly. It's hard to believe the same chef making these well rounded main dishes could also have a flaky pie crust perfected, but there is no other way to describe the pecan pie. More nuts than one typically sees, and a crust that managed to be crunchy and fluffy without being too buttery, made this dessert a little less rich than expected. It was a welcome surprise after the hearty meal that preceded it. Try Broken Hill, order as much variety as you can possibly stuff yourself with. You will absolutely not be disappointed.

Really good bbq! The meat (we got ribs and fried chicken) were definitely the star. Some of the best ribs I’ve ever had. We couldn’t actually finish the food so the platter is a good size for two people, probably even 3. The restaurant itself is nice inside and has a good atmosphere. Excellent espresso martini as well!
