Delicious food at good prices, was recommended to try and I have zero regrets. I will eat here again no doubt about that.

We love this as a quick place to stop after a long backpacking trip. It’s fairly simplistic food, but it’s fast and reliable. I like the option for turkey chorizo. Got a cocktail for the first time and the Paloma was delicious, although I didn’t get much rosemary flavor. I like having the different salsa options. The restaurant itself is small and charming with a very social patio. I’m sure we will be back.

I ordered the seafood burrito bowl and my wife ordered the pulled pork burrito. Hers was mediocre at best and mine was definitely not good. If you come from a bigger city with mexican cuisine I'd highly recommend skipping this spot.

Worst nachos I've had in my life. Incredibly bad. Soggy doesn't begin to describe them. So cheap on the cheese if I could find it under the goop. Bland. Boring. Go to save on and get texmex instead. It'll taste much better. Food this bad should be illegal.

Pretty flavorless. The "hot" sauce was like medium salsa. Not bad, per say, but just nothing special. Taco Bell has more flavor. Also had a kids rice and beans which was barely more than a tablespoon of each for like 5 dollars. If you have a kid who eats a lot its barely a snack.

Amazing food! Super friendly service. Wasn’t sure if the spice level for extra hot was hot enough, so they gave me some on a chip. For those who like spicier foods I’d recommend the extra spicy chicken burrito!

If you're ever in Nelson, look this place up.. One the best burritos ive had in awhile. Filling while not sitting like a brick in my tummy. Decently priced and made fresh to order. Mmmmm.

We loved this place last year. And of course, we came back this year to eat some awesome tacos, but what a disappointment! Fish taco is tasteless with small soggy code inside. Other tacos were just ok, nothing great. I agree with some the below reviews that guacamole is now just a green blend without avocado taste. We won’t be back again till I see the owner taking action to bring food quality back.

Went on Canada Day long weekend and it was great, better food and value than the “expensive” other Mexican in town. The beef burrito was huge and flavourful, and the chipotle cheese dip was refreshing and unique. Quick service too and nice patio seating.

Good Mexican food, two borders away! My pulled pork burrito was ample, with medium "heat" (you can ask for hotter). Staff was friendly, but this restaurant doesn't really come off as fancy - you order at the counter, and they call your name. Eat, and bus your own dishes. El Taco has good food, in a funky atmosphere at a reasonable price. Definitely worth the trip!

A large group of us students visiting for the summer went here yesterday for lunch...it was AMAZING. Most people got the giant burritos which they all raved about. These things are MASSIVE. I would never be able to eat an entire one. I got the appy sized nachos which were insanely delicious and I got a few bites on other people's apples which were awesome. Cool little building with big patio. Atmosphere is laid back and fun. And the prices are SUPER reasonable. I'll definitely go back before I head home after the summer. Thank you!

Went there for the first time for lunch. Ordered chips n salsa, chicken tacos, wife had shrimp quesadilla. Salsa was days old, no cilantro? Chips were stale.Tacos were soggy as first layer was black beans juice included. Chicken tasted old and had grey tinge to it. Looked like it was boiled and was very salty. First bite was last. Wife felt bad so she gave me half her shrimp quesadilla, opened up to check for shrimp as I didn’t taste any. In the half I had there were about 8-10 peanut sized canned shrimp? Wish I would have read the reviews b4 hand. Waste of time and money. Will not be back.

The best takeaway Mexican. Great value, we go weekly! Such great food and so customisable. We love it. Seriously, get the burritos. They freaking rock. Pulled pork is to die for.

I’ve been to El Taco three times in this past 10 days and have not been disappointed. The food is delicious and is very affordable. I have now had the tacos and burrito and they are both great but what really struck home was the tortilla soup. The drink menu is also wonderful - big fan of the mojitos and margaritas. The atmosphere is fun and causal. Service was friendly and food came in good time. Great place.

Great little restaurant, they have mentioned that they can make their food gluten free for a celiac - however, I had some cross contamination at some point in the weekend when I was there and cannot confirm if it was this restaurant or not. If you do not need to be gluten free, it's a great place to pick up quick food. I would only say that I feel it just needs a few more spices for flavour in the food and it would be a 5 star!

The price was great, and the veg burrito was fantastic, fresh, and filling! The layered dip was okay - the presentation could’ve been better, and the taste of the guacamole part seemed a bit on the processed side.

Our first experience at El Taco tonight and it definitely didn't disappoint! Take-Out only option really didn't matter...the food & service were great! Ancho Chili Margarita & Chipotle Cheese Dip made the top on the list! The Chicken Torito and Shredded Beef Taco Salad were not far behind! This was a great find!!

  • 5/5 Rohan S. 2 years ago on Google
The shredded beef burrito is one of the best I've ever had. So many flavors going on there between the slow cooked beef and whatever kind of sauce they put on it.

  • 5/5 Gerben D. 4 years ago on Google
Really tasty!! Good service and not very expensive at all.

  • 2/5 Justine Y. 2 years ago on Google
Cute cozy ambiance, though it’s really stuffy on a hot day. Patio space was nice, but the tables were sticky even after a good wipe down. Staff was friendly. Came here on a Tuesday evening. Had the Veggie Taco ($4) and Margarita ($8.5) with tamarind tequila and watermelon slush. Margarita was good and refreshing. Would want this on a hot day. Except for the sticky syrup rim they put around the cup. It slowly dripped down the sides from the heat, making it impossible to hold without getting red sticky syrup on my hands. Just get rid of the rim. Not worth it. Veggie Taco had no flavour. It was black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and guac. Guacamole is just mushed, liquidy avocados. Couldn’t even taste the lime. Black beans tasted like it came from a can. Could have really done with some seasoning, lime and cilantro. Tastes like a white version of a taco.

It’s a little high at 4 but it’ll do. Busy place to be sure. We both had salads, hit the spot on a hot day. Greenery choice is debatable, seemed a bit odd to us. But the flavours worked, that’s what matters!

  • 1/5 Nat 1 year ago on Google
Don’t bother. Flavourless and missing key ingredients, nothing special. I got the veggie burrito - it claims to have guac and pico, absolutely none of these ingredients were present (and no mention that they wouldn’t be included). Just some beans, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. Don’t order the chips and salsa either - salsa is hardly a salsa, it almost felt dry - just some chopped tomatoes with a couple other ingredients, but again.. flavourless.

  • 2/5 J M. 1 year ago on Google
El garbage. That meal just made me sad. "loaded vegetarian" consisted of a tonne of lettuce some rice and some diced tomatoes and a handful of beans. Having reviewed the menu there was no sour cream or guac, really disappointed this was not mentioned if they had run out. Would not recommend if you are vegetarian. Also bought the 'pico de gallo and chips' - store bought chips with some diced tomatoes, no flavour, no citrus.

Food was incredible. Beef burrito was full of flavour and amazing. My partner had a veggie taco and said that the true mark of a good Mexican joint is their ability to make a good veggie taco. Needless to say, they passed the test.

  • 1/5 George D. 1 year ago on Google
We had pulled pork tacos, hot sauce on the side was watery, flavour less, tacos were not fried just 2 tiny little corn tortillas, meat was practically non existant, Where's the cilantro? Where's the flavour?

  • 5/5 Brent F. 1 year ago on Google
I love El Taco. I eat here waaaaaay to much, but it’s damn good. Turkey Chorizo w/ double cheese, fried. It’s the alpha burrito. I will admit, it depends on who’s making the burrito as to how good it will be. Not always a home run, but you always get to third base with El Taco. Nomi is the greatest though. If she’s making your burrito, it’s a guaranteed grand slam!!

  • 5/5 Clee A. 1 year ago on Google
Went here for lunch and they made my burrito in only a few minutes, I had the vegetarian burrito and it was delicious. The prices are good and the decor is adorable. Stop by if you have a few minutes!

  • 5/5 Drew S. 1 year ago on Google
Excellence Mexican food for a town that doesn't have any excellent Mexican food 😂 Burritos are my go-to, sometimes it's a little watery but the flavour makes up for it. Solid food.

  • 5/5 Monique N. 9 months ago on Google
El Taco was so good! They allowed our doggos on the patio, which is hard to find in Nelson. The food was outstanding. We had the beef and chicken burritos in a bowl, we scarfed them down and were full. If we had eaten here earlier in our trip, we probably would have returned on the daily! :)

  • 2/5 Dwyn R. 7 months ago on Google
I have never had guacamole or sour cream that is watery? Why is theirs? Makes so sense unless they are cheaping out while still charging a lot of money for their food! Soup cold and I don’t live far. Seems like many Nelson restaurants give short shrift if you order out! Less food. Not to mention even if you order extra avocado and pay for it you won’t get it. I was just in Mexico and there isn’t even a comparison. The Jamaica juice is bitter and tastes old. I think many locals don’t have a lot of experience with good food and that might explain the good reviews. Mexican food is not expensive so I see no excuse for this to be so substandard and EXPENSIVE! Is there actually ANY chicken in the chicken quesadillas? There is much work to do to improve the quality of the food in this restaurant. They are resting on their laurels because we live in a small town but I haven’t always and I can say with 100% certainty this food is not quality or up to par! I don’t think anyone born in Mexico would recognize it! These guys are trying to save a buck by sacrificing quality and authenticity.

Interesting place. Was going to Thor Pizzeria and came across this place. A bit confusing as to what/where to order, but figured it out quick. Big family, the guy was patient and friendly. He was helpful, needed a seperated ordering area, easier to hear and speak your order. Called our name quickly, food came hot and quick. Delicious. Would eat there again.

Food was ok.. Fresh, but ingredients were pretty uninteresting. My veggie burrito was basically rice, with a bit of black beans and lettuce. Their hot sauce was in short supply and disappointing in flavor.

The staff members are very friendly, happy to assist any way they can. They take client safety personally, so even in these trying times I feel welcomed, safe, and genuinely enjoyed my experience. Food is great, and as someone who hates guac and avocado, they made a great addition to my burrito. From out of town, but, judging what myself and my company enjoyed today, will be back soon.

$14 for nachos with nothing on it. For $14 as a take out, I would expect lots of cheese & normal toppings - nada. It's really a stationary food truck. Burrito was ok, but again nothing on or with it, like a plate maybe, or a cup for a drink, or maybe some salsa. I'm being generous with 2 stars.

  • 5/5 Katey S. 3 years ago on Google
Consistently great burritos / burrito bowls at a very reasonable price. Margs are big, slushy and awesome to have on a hot day on the patio.

  • 5/5 Junior S. 3 years ago on Google
Phenomenal mexican place in Nelson. The atmosphere is unmatched, super friendly, and lots of locals to chat with. Adorable street side, covered patio, perfect stop before or after a ride. Their burritos are at the top of the local competition. 1.5 lbs of pure heaven, wraped in high quality dough. You leave here full, satisfied, and it doesnt break the bank. Highly affordable, especially for what you get. I cannot reccomend the turkey chorizo enough. Can choose how spicy you want it, and choose if you want hot sauce as a side. Taking a bite, had the same feeling as the first bite into a piece of pizza. Its so good, everytime. Ive been to El Taco a lot, and never regret it. If youre hungry, and want some good food. Call El Taco, and get a burrito, your stomac will be happy you did. Fantastic location too. Easy street side access, right off of Victoria. So you can get in, and get out, without having to brave the Nelson bottleneck.

  • 5/5 Miss B. 3 years ago on Google
The tacos we're delicious and they give you two shells and so much filling, it's basically two tacos for 4 bucks. The place is old and quirky, but the bathroom was clean, the staff were nice, and the food is yummy and super fast. Would recommend for a quick bite or grab and go.

  • 4/5 Jeffrey H. 3 years ago on Google
Simple, tasty food. Burritos, tacos, enchiladas quesadillas and salads. Small at the best of times, no indoor seating due to Covid pandemic. Busy enough to make the place feel a bit cramped while waiting after ordering. Many order by phone ahead of time which is a good idea. Tables outside are still somewhat cramped and busy, so I recommend take out. A person wouldn't have to go very far to find a nice place to eat. El Taco is one of the more popular value restaurants in Nelson.
