Magnificent view in both direction. From the main road side the parking is really tiny only for up to 5 cars. The walk uphill takes up to 15 min. Alternative route is available through forest for hiking or with mountain bike.

The name of the dune, Vecekrugas, is said to originate from the Curonian language. The word "vece" meaning "old" and "kruogs" meaning "tavern" combine to mean "old tavern". Legend has it that this refers to a small tavern located at the base of the dune. The formation of the entire dune ridge of the Curonian Spit can be traced back to the 16th and 17th centuries when extensive deforestation took place. Strong winds from the Baltic Sea caused sand to move inland, burying villages and forests. Locals eventually began to combat the sand by erecting barriers and planting trees and grass. Nowadays, the Vecekrugas Dune is covered mostly by mountain pines, planted since the mid-19th century with seedlings imported from Denmark.

Great panoramic view to oversee sea, curronian lagoon and curonian spit. It is quite a climb from bicycle road. Not accessible by wheelchair (sand/gravel)

Very nice place where you can see the Curonian Spit, Baltic sea and the forestry dune all at once. When you hear dune you expecting sand but here it’s none.
