Els is one of the best guides we ever met. She loves her city and you can really feel it. She guided us through the centre of The Hague in a tour that was both educating and entertaining at the same time full of anecdotes and her typical dutch humor. Our afternoon tour to the Hague was perfect, catering to what we wanted to see. While other tour companies only go to a select few, standard sites, Els designed a tour based upon what we wanted to see. Yes, we visited the former royal palace, now turned into a museum featuring the works of the Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher, as well as The Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery, where we saw Vermeer's famous painting, "Girl With a Pearl Earring." But we were also interested in the Dutch Resistance Movement during World War II, and the infamous "Oranjehotel", a prison that held political prisoners, now a national monument. Els went out of her way to take us there, also walking quite a distance with us, so we could see the dunes where prisoners were taken to be executed, now a memorial. Both of these were out of the way, and no other tourist agency would think to go there. Elswhere Tours gave us the chance to visit what WE wanted to see. With her comfortable manner and positive attitude, it was if we were being shown around by a long time friend. Els is a great guide!! Very welcoming, knows so much about the city, it’s places and history, and is really funny too. Just a heads up, she walks fast! It was ok for me, but may be too fast for an older crowd.

The city tour that you get is really great. In 2 informative hours you get very entertaining and very funny stories and facts about history, architecture, country and people and where best to go to eat or have a coffee. It’s been four months since my family and I went on the Elswhere tour, and I still remember how entertaining, informative, and informative it was. If we ever get back to The Hague, I would absolutely do another tour with her again. Her knowledge and love for the city comes through and gives you a real sense of the place, and I’d give it more than five stars if I could.
