Insightful and powerful. You glide through the canals in an electrically powered boat that was salvaged from Lampedusa Italy, to which it carried 74 refugees from Africa (the safe allowance for the boat in Amsterdam is about thirteen I believe). Your storyteller, who is a refugee, intertwines their own story with the story of the boat, and the refugees throughout history who helped build Amsterdam and make it what it is today. If you have to pick between the regular canal tour and this one, go with this one for a truly unique experience. Or even better, do both so that you can experience the contrast between the two.

One of the most insightful and impactful experiences I had while visiting Amsterdam. The canal cruise is really quite intimate, with room for only 12 guests and the boat itself is a constant reminder of the mission of Rederij Lampedusa. Our captain/guide told us about his story as a refugee in the Netherlands, about the highs and (many) lows of the process, and how the organization works to improve this process for newcomers. While there are plenty of canal cruise options available (many of which are cheaper), I have zero regrets about choosing this cruise. The more intimate setting and the storytelling makes for a far superior experience to a tour guide with a megaphone lecturing about the history of Amsterdam's canals to a boat with dozens of people.

There are plenty of cheaper canal tours in Amsterdam, and plenty which go into greater detail on the city's history. But the storytellers at Rederij Lampedusa offer an incredible personal insight into the experience of refugees in the city. It's a perspective you won't get anywhere else.

With 2 groups of in total approx. 45 colleagues we were on the large boat of Rederij Lampedusa. Tommy was our guide and we had a wonderful time. He is a great storyteller, with a lot of humour. We did not see a lot of the cloudy and rainy Amsterdam, as we were all glued to his lips. I did not hear any negative words about Tommy or the boat trip, so we recommend you have a boat tour to get to know more backgrounds on the boat and the guide(s). Thank you for a great time, Rederij Lampedusa!

I have been on many boat rides in Amsterdam, but this stands out as a unique and special experience. Our guide had an amazing story to tell about his life and the lives of other refugees. Highly recommend.

A unique experience, emotional, informative and fun. Sipan and Sami were amazing. Different approaches of story telling but equally captivating. Thier stories must be heard.

We had the most amazing time on our canal tour with Rederij Lampedusa. Our captain Yousef provided a unique tour through the canals explaining Amsterdam’s migration history and his openness to share his story with us reached our hearts. Such an inspiring individual and an experience we will always remember fondly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I hear this boat tour was amazing and I got it as a birthday present Today we did the boat tour and it was a great an inspiring experience. As a migration scholar myself and as a human being of this world, I think this kind of experiences enrich a lot our lives by seeing and hearing touching and inspiring histories. Thank you Yousef to share your story with us. And thank you to the ones that started this amazing project i wish you the best. Highly recommended experience.

The other boat tour. How Amsterdam was built by immigrant in the 17th century until now is also interesting for locals.

I was on a wonderful tour around Amsterdam with Lampedusa. Insightful, moving, informative and just very enjoyable. Our guide was a fantastic story teller and had was so kind to share his personal story of being a rebel, a writer, a student - and a refugee.. We also learned a lot about Amsterdam and how important immigration has been to it's development. I would do this again any time, and recommend it to everyone!

Moe and Sami gave us a very interesting tour through the Grachten of Amsterdam. Moe told us a lot about his journey from Syria to the Netherlands, shared his very personal experiences with us with a big portion of humor although it is quite a severe topic. We can definitely recommend a tour with Rederij Lampedusa!

We had the pleasure of going on a canal cruise on May 27th. We orded pizzas via deliveroo, had the delivered to the boat dock, and then set sail with two members of the team. The tour was moving, insightful, and a truly unique way to see the city through a very important narrative. The team was easy to coordinate with and helpful. Our entire group treasured the experience and it was one of the highlights of our learning retreat :) My guidance: Let the team know what kind of experience you want to have - they'll be sure to work with you!

It was a really nice and interesting tour with a some first hand experience of how migrants have found life in Amsterdam and the Netherlands. I would definitely recommend if you want an alternative experience in Amsterdam

Great experience for those willing to see the world (and Amsterdam of course) from a different perspective. Yusuf is a kind guide and inspiring storyteller.

(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed the walk. The captain is very polite, always asked what they did not understand, what are the questions. The captain also told his story and the story of Amsterdam. I really liked everything. After the trip, the daughter gave the captain a picture. So I'm sure that our walk was a success. I will gladly go for a walk again someday. The boat is open, take the panama.

As a dutch person who has been on a tour many times. This was a very very different boat ride. It was spontaneous storytelling instead of "here's this famous attraction blah blah blah". The story of Yusuf was so touching and very informative about life as a refugee. I would highly recommend this instead of those big boats with boring talk. Thank you guys for everything and keeping my wheelchair safe!

Fantastic experience! We cruised through Amsterdam canals and learned a lot about the situation of refugees around an enthralling personal story. Also interesting to get a view on the Netherlands from the outside. This all sprinkled with information about the Amsterdam sights we passed. We’ll definitely come back for a repeat tour with a different storyteller.
